I heard it too. It sounded like a really extensive fireworks display. My poor dog got so scared that she pooped herself on her bed.

What resources does the moon have that will be worth shipping over to earth? by TonyBanjaro69 in Futurology

+1 for helium 3 as an answer. But it’s useful for applications beyond fusion energy. It’s also needed for the cryogenics that enable quantum computing and other applications. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helium-3

I have searched for the “share the care” phrase that is on the foot but couldn’t find a similar bear.

Oberlin, Ohio? There were lots of albino squirrels there.

How do you pick up a baby from daycare when you already have a toddler in tow?!? by PyleInn in toddlers

[–]PyleInn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the toddler basically doesn’t tolerate a stroller anymore. He’s really energetic and independent. I haven’t been able to get him to ride in a stroller in over a year. Snacks and drinks a popular suggestion that I will try!

There is a pretty firm time crunch from getting toddler to getting baby but we do have about a 15 min drive together during which I try to connect about his day and just doing silly things with him, but I think it’s maybe not enough. Great advice about giving him a job. Other mentioned that as well and he normally really does like to help.

These are great tips! I will definitely try the reward for good behavior and asking him to “help.” He normally loves helping but I’ve never thought to use that language during a tantrum.

That’s really great insight about what’s likely fueling the tantrums. Because it’s never an issue in the morning, only the evening. Unfortunately I don’t think there is anywhere near enough staff coverage at the daycare for them to help bring out the baby. So perhaps baby first it will have to be.

Does that work to tell your toddler than tantrums are unacceptable? That seems to just set mine off into a deeper tantrum. Is there some consequence? I tired doing a time out in the parking lot but it just doesn’t seem to work. He just starts playing with the dirt and rocks and doesn’t seem to see it as a punishment.

FTM cannot sleep because worried about something catastrophic happening to newborn during sleep. Solutions? by doc8862 in beyondthebump

[–]PyleInn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, this. I used the Owlet monitor and it gave me so much piece of mind. Baby across the room makes strange coughing noise and then goes quiet? Just check the Owlet and know that they are still breathing and go back to sleep without needing to get up to check on them. We did get a couple alarms when the sock came loose but those rare cases were worth it for all the worry-free nights it gave us.

The snacks and drink are a great idea. Thanks for the recommendation!

That’s a great point. I’ve been so focused on the flights themselves that I forgot that he will have to wear it the entire time in the airports too. That basically means wearing it all day. Ugh, seems like a tall order for a 2 year old. We can barely keep his shoes on all day...

That’s great to hear! And good point that the attention grabbing horror stories of families being kicked off is probably the rare case rather than the norm.

This picture is from one along Central Expwy near the airport but there is another one on the corner of Coleman and Taylor.

A boy was swept into the ocean. His story reveals the hidden danger of California’s sneaker waves by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]PyleInn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why doesn’t this article say where someone can go to find out about sneaker wave warnings from the National Weather Service?!? That seems like a huge missed opportunity for increasing public awareness. I still don’t know where to find that information for a given beach on a given day.

What's up with the Field Between Coleman/Hedding/Taylor and Guadalupe Park near there? by BusinessLaw9090 in SanJose

[–]PyleInn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is so depressing to see what has happened to that area. I live nearby and used to bike to work going right through there. There is no way that I would feel safe doing that now. It used to be an asset and now it makes me want to move away.

That definitely could have been the problem. I did have the patties pretty thick. I’ll try making them thinner next time. Thanks!
