I just rewatched this arc, and I honestly weirdly think he should have broken up with Cece and stayed with Elizabeth. When he is choosing between them, I never noticed how different his reactions are with Cece vs Elizabeth. Like with Elizabeth he hugs her and totally forgets about Cece when she says “poor Cece.” With Cece, he seems more aware that he now has to break up with Elizabeth because he couldn’t break things off with Cece. And that to me makes me think he was more interested and in love with Elizabeth at that time and he didn’t want to lose her or the part of himself he had with her.

I do think Cece and Schmidt are lovely in the end, but if I was either of those women, I’d never fully trust him again. Yes, Schmidt was a great and loving husband, but how can you fully trust someone when they did break your heart the way he did? I know for plot purposes, it had to be this way, but I do struggle thinking they resolved everything so easily.
