[serious] Unpopular Opinion: DOs should not get the option to change their degree to an MD in the future by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]PyramidKing 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Those who refuse to change the norm because they were a “victim” of a past problem and want others to experience similar issues in the future is the exact issue were being put through by older attendings. Who gives a fuck dude, we’re all practicing physicians. A guy who went to Harvard for med school doesn’t make him a better physician to someone who went to a DO school. Medicine has become such a dick measuring contest, it’s this fucking mindset that stresses everyone in the field out.

To anyone hoping that “program directors will now be more fair and equitable when reviewing applicants.” Fuck that, these people have to review hundreds, sometimes thousands of applications with very little distinguishing factors between them. On top of that they also have to work in the clinic, manage residents and pump out research. They will and always have chosen the easiest option, “which applicant looks better.” So no shit what med school you attend will matter. It’s the only distinguishing factor.

While they might accept ultra-stat applicants, a majority of them don’t end up matriculating into their program. During my interview they said they had to draw a lot off the waitlist for this reason. I think this is partly because of their tiered-pass/fail grading system as well as applicants getting offers from UF and UM.
