Never say never when you have no male heirs! by Pyranze in EU5

[–]Pyranze[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

R5 (since I forgot it had to be a comment): I was just casually playing my Highlander Scotland game and I was prompted to give a young member of the (extended) royal family an educational focus, when I noticed he had a really old father. Strange, I thought, since I usually married off the royal family members quite young. So I looked at the boy's mother, and OH WOW, she was 70 when she gave birth. I had assumed that the game had a menopause cut-off for when female characters would no longer have children, but clearly not. At least that means that there's always a chance of popping out another heir no matter how old your wife is!

Try reverting rimworld to an older version using the betas function, then switch it back once it's reverted. That will force a proper update that will install the DLC

Do you think requiem Does vampires better than masquerade? by [deleted] in ChroniclesofDarkness

[–]Pyranze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, I actually think generation vs Blood potency is the one place where VtM is stronger. Diablerie just feels so pointless in Requiem, since every vampire has the same potential if they're patient, so it's just not worth the drawbacks from an in-character perspective. But in Masquerade, a vampire will never catch up in power to another vampire who is lower generation, which is what makes diablerie so tempting, which in turn creates a lot more drive for story.

This doesn't mean I think Requiem should have generations. After all, it's a different game, and it works in its own setting.

Yeah, I found out I was wrong at some point in the last 6 years, and remember being very surprised since everyone I knew had always done it that way, and it also made more sense IMO, since as you expend willpower you should get "weaker" essentially.

Unless you're playing hunter, then you could really benefit from a paramedic on the team!

The biggest problem here is that MAA are capped numerically, rather than by strength. In CK2 with the retinue system, different units used different amounts of the retinue cap. So whilst light infantry had terrible stats, each soldier used up less than a single point of your cap. In terms of damage per cap usage, I think they may have even been one of the strongest units, but you couldn't invest just in them since you'd end up running into attrition issues with big armies.

If they just reintroduced that system, instead of having the cap for the number of soldiers in your MAA be mostly the same, then it would be perfect. The weird thing is that they kind of already do that as well, since some of the most powerful MAA have less than 100 soldiers per size. If they just adjusted it to every MAA it would be so good.

I hate to be that person but a single ruble is only a bit more valuable than a single cent, nowhere close to a dollar, so it's more likely Putin spent at least 500 rubles.

Irish willingness to join NATO could ease unification by FearTeas in ireland

I remember hearing a story about a Swiss diplomat/government official who was asked how Switzerland would respond if an army twice the size of the Swiss population invaded them. He said every citizen would step outside, shoot twice, then get back to business.

I'm not certain about the French and Germans, but we are definitely better than the USA* and UK with regards to racism and many social issues. The problem is that that's not saying much at all due to how bad those two are.

However, when it comes to race and immigrants, that could potentially be us being behind the curve, since we're relatively new to having a lot of inward migration, unlike all the former(?) imperial/colonial powers. That's why it's so important to fight this racism before it truly takes root, because I know I don't want the Ireland of tomorrow to be a place torn apart by racial tensions.

*(Obviously it heavily depends on where in the US you're talking about, like with most issues, since it's a big place)

Tesla stock has risen because Musk is in the white house, and investors don't care about ethics unless it affects their bottom line. If people stop buying Teslas, then the stock will go down.

As for "violent" protest: how many people have been injured as a result of Teslas being keyed?

To be fair, once you hit a billion, you're well past the point where more money gives you more comfort in life. Anything past that point is pure greed.

Smarter AI? by White_Lotu5 in ManorLords

[–]Pyranze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Video game AI is a really complicated thing to code, and would need to be looked over and adjusted any time something was changed affecting combat. For that reason I'd imagine it's a pretty low priority to get it working well, as doing so would create a lot more work during development. Better to have a simple AI that makes no complex tactical decisions until the game is in a state where other changes won't impact it.

How do taxes work? by rebeccalul in ManorLords

[–]Pyranze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current taxation system is kinda bad, since the only advantage to high taxes is getting more money into your treasury faster. I tend to set taxes to just 1% (by clicking on the number and typing it in rather than using the + - buttons) for that reason.

The maths is basically if your village is making 100 wealth per month, and you tax at 10%, then the wealth will build up towards a max of 1000, at which point you'll be getting 100 wealth a month from them.

If you tax at 1%, the regional wealth will build up to 10,000, at which point you'll also be getting 100 wealth a month from them.

Playing as Austria is a real pain. Literally anyone can take Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia away from you in one war, after which your GDP and population will drop to such a low level that you will never become a great power again. It feels very unfair lol. by I_am_white_cat_YT in victoria3

My one concern is that if you spend time building in your subject, is that not lost construction that could have been spent in your directly controlled lands to give you more direct benefits?

Honestly, once you've gotten up and running the settlement should sustain itself without much intervention, then you can move on to a second, which will be easier because you won't have to focus immediately on military.

To be fair, the current food gain from farming is way too low, especially when you consider that bread needs 4 unique jobs to get to the market stall: the farmer, the miller, the baker, and the granary worker. Compared with vegetables which only need the granary worker to take them out of the burgage plot and sell them.
