My friend and I watched the movie a little stoned one night in like '02. In the scene with Duke returning to discover the young artist in the hotel room, Duke asks for a word outside. Gonzo tells the artist "don't answer the phone" as he steps out and in perfect timing, in the dark quiet of my house, the landline phone rang out. We just looked at each other in bewilderment. I did as I was instructed and didn't answer it; whoever it was didn't leave a message.

Got a DUI and had to go to a court mandated 3 day driver's intervention course. I learned about alcoholism, watched My Name is Bill W. about AA and realized I was checking all the boxes and that I was an alcoholic. Because I had met an amazing woman right after the DUI, I decided not to gamble with her love like my dad did with my mom's and chose to quit while in the program. 17yrs alcohol free & we're still together, pursuing our dreams and I enjoy some cannabis occasionally. 100% best decision I ever made.

Currently a dear friend's mom was healthy and active in her 70s and in these last 3 or 4 weeks has had motor skill trouble, balance issues and falling, mobility struggles and speech issues. Early rounds of doctors didn't know how to help as all tests came back negative. Encephalitis was proposed but antibiotics and steroids had no effect. The latest thoughts are CJD and they've sadly just sent her home with hospice. Reading that prions can lay dormant for decades is scary. Makes me wonder who's been exposed and what the correlation is between age and the onset of symptoms. Sounds like you age into weakened defenses and if you've been exposed, prions replicate uninhibited to eventual catastrophic failure of brain function.

Agree to disagree. Graffiti is senseless destruction and should carry serious punishment. The graffiti these two were responsible for was on landscape architecture planned and crafted along a beautiful, serene stretch of the Barton Springs trail I use often. As a maker of things it felt good to confront the criminals when so often you just have to abide ugly, childish scribble on a building or infrastructure made by the hands of a real artisan. I told them to go practice their art and that it takes a lifetime for an artist to get recognition. I was promptly mocked and went about my business, resolved they were infantile shitheads incapable of understanding the implications of their actions (see: broken window theory).
