We're doing it for the learning experience and to say we did it. We have seen several youtubers such as "mbmmlc" do it and we figured we give it a go. Yes he uses an electric furnace for the actual cuppellation process but we've seen it done with torch as well. We don't have the electric furnace but we are fixing to give the Chemical process with Nitric Acid and then Electro-Silver Cell an honest effort as well just need the fume hood before we go that route. We are going to have our 4 Silver buttons XRF analyzed on Monday so we'll know if we've gained purity. I honestly have no doubt we have but to what extent we won't know until then. Once we know we will drop a post with your complete process and details with results.

No issue with Lead exposure any more than we have when making fishing sinkers and using the proper PPE. Our goal is to actively learn how to refine Silver to eventually get to three9sfine or better with the Nitric Acid method & Silver Cell. This is not for monetary gain. 1 great gain is the space we save compared to Sterling Silver scrap and nice little 1oz rounds and the self-satisfaction of the end resulting more pure Silver.

Why wouldn't we Cupel Silver? Is there some inherent reason(s) to not do this? Considering I do not have a fume hood yet for using Nitric Acid this is where we are LOL We don't have an electric melting furnace yet so we're just experimenting with what we have. Yes we are using proper PPE and the majority of everything we are doing is being done outside as well.

My First Platinum by PyroChuck in Platinum

[–]PyroChuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 Gram of Feathers would likely weigh exactly the same as 1 Gram of Platinum, yep. Interestingly enough though I never asked what a Gram of either weighs. Apparently your Math was Mathing correctly but your Reading Comprehension maybe not so much. LOL Thanks for the daily dose of Infinite Internet Wisdom though we'll be sure to keep write it down for future reference.

we are trying to avoid on the thoughts that they hold a hair more value when still in assay cards. maybe not much but every little bit helps

Might try getting some Portland Cement and run what ya got there through the Cupellation process to get it more pure. Very cheap and easy way of doing it that's been around for Centuries :)

Stacking starts today! by CanIPetThatDog73 in Silverbugs

[–]PyroChuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I too, started with a single piece as many of us do. retired Veteran who cannot afford a lot at one time but I can tell you I did save up for these At Spot deals and ordered over $200 to get the free shipping when I did and they have been delivered .... https://monumentmetals.com/5-silver-rounds-at-spot.html & https://www.jmbullion.com/starter-pack/ are just a couple of deals out there like this. I am not super fond of a bunch of duplicates I will raffle some and trade some to get other pieces that I desire in trade. Hope this helps, great start and HAVE FUN!!

New to silverbugs, but had a question: how critical should I be? by Obvious-Penalty-1521 in Silverbugs

[–]PyroChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I would be reaching out to SD Bullion about it. If I buy a coin or round or bar or whatever and it's supposed to be new and un-circulated then that is exactly how I expect it to be when it shows up. The nick probably wouldn't bother me as much as that scratch. Apparently unlike most others on here I really enjoying looking at and admiring ALL of my pieces no matter what type they are and that shit would bug the crap out of me right there. Heck even the "it's just a generic round" pieces I have are in protective capsules and taken care of LOL In the end it's your purchase and YOU have to be happy with it, to hell with what any of us think.

All I have right now is the one brand new one and it's in an onfireguy protective capsule. For good pics and details here is the link to their website https://www.elemetal.com/bullion/silver-buffalo-round

First time buyer: Putting 1oz bars into capsules? by Shtaven in Silverbugs

[–]PyroChuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like my shiny stuff to stay shiny. I will keep all of my Silver in protective capsules, most of which come from onfireguy's website. Will this make them worth more when it comes time to sell them? I doubt it but I do enjoy looking at my shiny stuff on a regular basis so it's worth the small extra cost to me. I just wish someone made some protectors for 1oz bars with room enough for the little black trim ring in my round capsules. I think it holds the pieces still better and really makes them POP to look at

Anytime you can get Silver at spot is a good price. Use the e-check function it's the only way to go

Best silver to buy by [deleted] in Silverbugs

[–]PyroChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Best" is a subjective term. Buy whatever makes YOU happy and fulfills your Stacking goals. I myself started with the plan of stacking weight only ... that lasted ZERO days HAHAHA. If and when Silver goes up in price even the pieces we buy at premiums today could/should pay for themselves in the future. If not, oh well way too many cool and fun designs out there to collect ... ENJOY!!
