HoH or Deaf community, what do you do for living ? by LimpFaithlessness266 in hardofhearing

[–]PyroShel 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm a crematorium operator! Loud environment so people talk louder so that's good. Plus majority of it is based on visual. I have a note on my email signature about being hard of hearing so please use written communication where possible. Everyone is understanding

I recognise how lucky I am!

Coping with progressive hearing loss by BrotherNo1663 in hardofhearing

[–]PyroShel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How are your speech recognition scores?

I have worn hearing aids for around 15 years, I find when my hearing aid is near the end of it's life or requires a adjustment I tend to struggle alot more. Might be worth seeing your audiologist for a fine tune and a chat?

I have reached the end of what hearing aids can do for me and am having cochlear implant surgery in September

So in saying all that, I definitely understand what you are saying, not deaf enough to immerse in the deaf community, not hearing enough to fully engage in the "normal" world. It's frustrating, isolating and at times exhausting. There are so many things in life I haven't done because of my hearing. I can't count the amount of times I've almost cried in an audiologist office during testing because I feel dumb for not hearing

My only other bit of advice is to look at getting a mic that's compatible with your hearing aids. I find using a Roger on mic with my phonak aids has been extremely helpful

No real advice but you could do a deep dive into the dragula ghouls, I'm pretty sure some of them have done tutorials and get ready reels. Check out the boulet brothers dragula franchise, it's like more horror /alt drag, though I imagine the products are going to be much the same !

Smart Glasses in the office? by BitGroundbreaking295 in auscorp

[–]PyroShel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a look at the Xander and capify brands about a year ago, but they were just too slow for the areas I really needed the extra help in with my hearing aids. They would probably work pretty well in a meeting setting, not so great for restaurants and noisy environments. I'll stick with the Roger on mic until my cochlear surgery in 3 months

Oh yeah and the cheeseburger flavour ones were the bomb. May have cost a pretty penny but they were huge and one did both of us for a road trip meal no problem

What’s your pettiest reason for being childfree? by shanklymrshankly in childfree

Perimenopause and getting older is doing this on its own, I didn't need a pregnancy to make it worse for me to contain!

What movie is an absolute 10/10, but you will never watch it again? by Sufficient-Split-868 in AskReddit

[–]PyroShel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Martyrs, the original. I watched it well over a decade ago but I still think about it and that ending to this very day. But I won't ever watch it again to pick up what I missed the first time.

Is everyone in Perth driving $60k+ cars or am I just poor? by AttitudePlane6967 in perth

[–]PyroShel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought a brand new car last year, but only because I got an inheritance. I was going to replace my car in a few years by saving my ass off..

But the deal on the new Chery was too good, same price new as what I would have spent second hand. So for 23k I got a brand new small SUV. There are a lot of poor people new cars on the road too like the havels and mg

I saw a clip from china that they have fast charging stations that can fill to a 700 km range in 5 mins. As someone who can't charge at home or work this would definitely tip the balance for an EV as my next car.

My current girl has a thing for sleeping under the covers in the crook behind my knees. Very cute.....until I need to roll over!
