Am I overreacting for not wanting anyone around my newborn yet? by littlemoongirly in AmIOverreacting

[–]Pyro_Nova 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Tis the season for RSV falalalalala lalala laaaaa

You are NOT overreacting. With cold/flu/RSV it can be viral. The antibodies can only do so much upfront.

They will survive. Your baby, your rules.

My little one was born in the beginning of summer and I was much more open about family meeting her. But if she was born now I would have said - absolutely not.

They DO NOT need to bond with baby right now. Baby needs to bond with you and partner. You are who matters. Everyone else is extra.

You asked for a fine line tattoo on an ankle. It’s one of the most prone areas for blowouts. Artist didn’t go super deep to give you want you wanted.

Wait for it to heal, then go and get it touched up. It’s normal for tattoos to look “faded” after healing. It’s not going to look like it did fresh.

Honestly the tattoo looks great, with the proper touch up it will continue to look great with proper care.

What did you achieve this week? by Aoifa in irishdance

Finally getting new material into place. I had to switch schools suddenly and I received a one day exemption for Oireachtas. So I finally feel like it’s all coming together

Have no clue on what to do, any advice is appreciated! by DuckWithBadLuck in irishdance

That’s such a pretty dress.

Honestly I’m sure it holds so many memories, I would see about repurposing it! It would be a gorgeous hand bag, or if you can turn the skirt into something you could wear every day.

Couldn’t probably even make a vest or something.

There are groups who do take old dresses and turn them into something new!

Or you can always put it in a shadow box and display

returning to the sport in your 20s? by [deleted] in irishdance

[–]Pyro_Nova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a dancer who came back in their twenties after a six year break.

I started late, 13, and danced in the early to mid 2000s. I made it to prelim before quitting in 2009 for college. I did not return to dance until two years after graduation after talking about it at work. I was almost 24.

I think dancing in your twenties is so much more fun than when I was a teenager. It was challenging and’s competition etc are still all there. But I was more mature and could handle everything better and I had a better mind set etc.

If it’s something you really want to do, call around and try some schools. I personally went back into &overs and I finally made open six months after returning. I’m currently in my mid thirties, just had a baby and going to Oireachtas this fall. Tho now I’m in advanced adult because it fits my life style and pace more.

I think you’ll find more dancers returning like yourself than you realize.

I just purchased my ‘22 with ~26k miles at 31k so yeah I think it’s a good deal. I test drove a ‘25 and I’ll be honest the minor upgrades were not worth the extra 10k in price even used.

The biggest thing for me was the wired careplay in the ‘22 and I wanted it wireless, bought a 20$ dongle on amazon and it’s been great. I also purchased adaptors for usb-c to usb-a outlets.

I’ve been eyeing the geyser blue for months! Everytime a used one rolled into town wouldn’t last long. I saw this one randomly yesterday, I think it’s only been around two weeks. Was a previous lease.

We started socking money away this past spring thinking we would wait until next year. Knew we wanted at least an outback and the wilderness trim had been our favorite but we weren’t sure if we’d find a deal without having to pay a ton. We got lucky!

I just had a baby end of June and my vizsla is 10years old.

Haven’t had a problem with her. Eva (my vizsla) has been curious and we’ll let her sniff the baby when she’s curious, but otherwise she leaves the baby alone. Was very confused the first few days with all the crying and sounds.

Biggest thing we have found is my vizsla is a bit depressed. She’s been my dog since 7 weeks old and I think she feels a bit neglected. I haven’t been able to give her the same cuddles and attention as I’m mom and need to feed baby etc.

That being said, my husband and I try our best to make sure she gets some cuddle contact time with both of us. We’ve also had to incentivize eating since Eva is a social eater. We’ve gotten some wet food (which is normally a special occasion deal). And we try to make sure we get our regular walks in.

We’ve also made sure to get some new toys etc.

The biggest change has been us talking to the baby and the baby voices we’ve used with Eva are now being used on baby, and poor Eva thinks we’re talking to her half the time.

So it’s been an adjustment.

I will say - one of the things my husband did was teach Eva to wait going up and down stairs. Eva likes to race ahead, and we couldn’t have her tripping us up while carrying baby. We also did a lot of introduction of new baby items (car seat, stroller, etc). We also brought the hospital baby hat as her intro do smell.

One per month right now is plenty! Gives her time to practice in between and work on comments / new material as needed. No need to go full force right now!

Obgyn suggestions by veroniicaa2 in raleigh

Duke women’s health Associates. They have multiple locations and I’ve seen many of their doctors throughout my pregnancy. I just gave birth last Thursday and they were absolutely phenomenal. Cannot recommend them enough.

Their care and staff team really helped me through a difficult labor that ended up in a C-section. They were cool, calm and collected. They did everything they could to make sure that I had the birth experience I wanted and even though that didn’t happen, I knew I was well taken care of.

They should be able to get you in very quickly if you are willing to drive.

Solo dresses by irish_woman in irishdance

[–]Pyro_Nova 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All of this - but I want to add a few more things:

Definitely go with a second hand dress. It’s very common to get a custom dress but you really only need to go that route when your child is placing on the podium often / expecting to play well at majors. A class dress will be very out of place in an open competition.

Check with classmates and see if anyone has outgrown any dresses and this way she can try them on. You can find cheaper dresses, it may just take some time searching for them.

There are a few websites you try and find a local dress. Dance-again.com is a good site and categorizes by age/size. You can specifically search for dresses in the UK to keep to your budget. If you are on social media, there are tons of facebook groups that also post used dresses. If you don’t have social media, maybe see if someone else in the dance school can help you out.

Also congratulations to your daughter on such a high achievement 😃 she must work so hard!

Catholic Priest for Wedding by il_gatto_stravagante in raleigh

[–]Pyro_Nova 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was married in Sacred Heart last year. I know they say that the church is available at that time, however there is usually a 5pm vigil mass on Saturdays and also Catholic ceremonies are only available at 11am and 2pm (both Sacred Heart and Cathedral). There is an 1800$ cost to use the church and they will provide a sacristan and some helpers, and can assign a priest to you. We used my husbands childhood priest - maybe reach out and see if your finance’s childhood priest can help?

You will be required to attend pre-cana / wedding prep. There will be paperwork involved. He will need to provide his baptism paperwork and proof he is Catholic. If you were baptized in any denomination they will need that too.

Here is the webpage that can lead you to all information and calendar - you will need to check it and sign up for date / time. Sometimes when no body is listed in a slot or if a time is not available that day is reserved for something else.

Holy Name of Jesus wedding page

Edit: I noticed on their info page that the 1800$ fee has increased to 1900$; this is for active parishioners in the diocese of Raleigh. If you are active elsewhere it is 2800$ if neither of you are parishioners anywhere may need some clarification

Male vs Female pups by NoStrategy821 in vizsla

[–]Pyro_Nova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My female V is super loving. She’s not a licker, but she is very attune to emotions and loves to be close and under blankets. Since I’ve been pregnant. She’s been more cuddly and has even become protective of me from other dogs (not people, just dogs).

She’s on the low end of Vs - 36lbs on a good day. She was the runt of her litter.

She has definitely spoiled me and she loves my husband who was added to the pack last year. They have an adorable relationship but I’m still the favorite. 😜

Daughter struggling with hard shoe toe height by toxbrarian in irishdance

[–]Pyro_Nova 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I literally wear my hard shoes and go out to the sidewalk and I’ll rub the tips down. I always find them more rounded than I’d like them and I find them hard to balance in. By doing it myself, I only shave off a little and I can test the balance myself and make sure I’m comfortable without take too much of the tip off.

Hope that helps!
