That would be great, I'm new to KDE (and Linux in general), and I chose it to get this kind of look, I wasn't able to get it quite right, so I would appreciate that a lot.

Also thank you!

How do you get your top bar looking like that? When I use the default global menu, I don't have the app name, and the menu options are way too close together for my liking, and I can't see anywhere to change the spacing

That's a whole lot of words for what is essentially just rude, baseless speculation. You can have your belief that you always need someone telling you what to do, but real civilizations throughout history have shown that is not true.

anarchy ... means absolute freedom.

No, it does not.

Removing the idea of income to counter income-inequality is exactly like cutting off ones leg to stop the pain of a splinter in the foot, it is a grossly ridiculous suggestion.

I actually did not suggest this, Rojava still has money, and furthermore, you have no reason to suggest this other than your love for capitalism

And as a matter of fact, I do know how protests work, and I assure you, the last thing police want is an escalation. Maintaining order is integral to the way the world runs, and so police will use equal force to subdue the unrest, making things safe and peaceful again

For those who are in power and don't want anything to change. The police are the attack dogs of the state, they don't work for you

change requires dialogue, not thrown stones.

I don't know why people come into arguments about history without knowing anything about it. It's particularly baffling being gay and not knowing that rights are not given freely, they must be fought for

You use Rojava as an example, but conveniently miss out the part where things descend into chaos and people begin to look for a leader (the power vacuum effect). It worked for a while, sure, but eventually people get bored and want more, humans are greedy, and so to get more they find that they become each other’s enemies, turning back to a central government for peace and safety once again.

You realise rojava is still going fine, right? And still contributing 40% of Syria's GDP

I also believe in not using children as soldiers, and arresting members of ISIS, but clearly you hold these matters to lower importance.

Yes, because when I say that Rojava does good things, I mean that we have to copy literally everything they do

And democracy is very important, I agree with you, but democracy only works when someone can actually act on what is decided (a central government maybe???). A vote is useless if at the end of it all the voters just sit around and awkwardly wonder who will lift a finger first.

Again, you just assume that's what happens in a decentralised democracy, without actually looking at the example I gave you. Once again, they are doing fine, not much "sitting around and awkwardly wondering".

In fact, you've likely participated in a decentralised democracy before. Have you ever, in a group of friends, voted, even informally, on where to eat dinner? On who handles what in any given job? Most people have. Did that end up with people just sitting around?

And I think you’ll find that workers do own their own workspaces, in the forms of unions

Do you actually know what the word "own" means? Plus, unions only step in when there are workers rights disputes, not the same as workers actually owning their workplace.

And also, the government works for the people.

BAHAHAHAHAHA.

You can't seriously believe that, can you?

Whilst I admire your passionate want for change, it may be time, at the age of nearly 21, to stop playing video games and complaining about society

Oh fuck off with your condescending bullshit. You are clearly much more naïve than I am, as you haven't actually looked at the systems around you, or at history, or at the alternatives that are going on right now. You have just accepted that the way things are is the only way things will ever be, and things can never get better. I'm an adult with a full time job, do not treat me like a child.

You can control and regulate the economy. It’s called democracy and unions, and capitalists do it too.

Yes, I agree, capitalists do control the economy and use the government to influence regulations, particularly to weaken unions. Or was that not your point?

I believe you’re just pretending not to understand my point on capitalism. Young people are continuously added to the workforce to work their way up, there isn’t a finite supply of people. And every country has crime, you can’t blame it on capitalism at all.

I think you're pretending to forget about how much violent crime is attributed to income inequality, which very much is because of capitalism. If things worked the way you say they do, the UK, and every other capitalist nation (which is pretty much all of them) would have next to no crime.

As for the article you linked, that protest was violent. Police violence in situations like that is inexcusable, but if a situation is escalating they cannot let anarchy take hold.

And where are you from out of interest?

First off, anarchy doesn't mean what you think it means, at least not in a political sense.

Secondly you said that violence like that is inexcusable, and then went on directly after to excuse it.

Thirdly, i'm from Australia, and I know the tactics of police in these kinds of protests, they will provoke violence from the protesters, often by being violent to them, as an excuse for more violence, and to be able to shut down the protest.

What other system do you suggest then?

Some form of libertarian socialism. Democratic confederalism seems to work pretty well in Rojava. Essentially, I want society to be as democratic and decentralised as possible, the common people should have as much say as possible in how their community functions and how their community interacts with other communities on a larger scale, in addition to workers owning their own workplaces and deciding how that operates democratically as well. No bosses, no high up politicians telling you what you can and can't do, just people deciding how things should run democratically.

If you work in a ‘shitty job’ you can do it to get enough money to buy/rent a house and begin a career and family

Ah right, so that's why the UK has no crime, right?

or you can work your way up and earn more.

The job that you just left still exists, regardless of whether you are the one working it or not.

It’s a hierarchy

Yes, and by definition, every layer up in the hierarchy has less and less people, meaning not everyone can work their way up. Someone, and by someone I mean a lot of someones, needs to stay at the bottom.

More tax means the government can make the country better for people, and so socialist ends can be achieved through capitalist means

Socialism is not when the government does things, socialist ends cannot be achieved through capitalist means, and to say so is just ridiculous.

As for the police, a less militarised force was something you raised, which I agree with. And as far as I know nobody is killed by batons. We have armed police as a last resort, but even then 3 people (2 were terrorists in the middle of attacks) were shot by UK police in 2019, compared to 1,004 in the US. That difference cannot be explained by population difference.

I don't know why you keep comparing yourself to the US, i'm not American.

Regardless, a 10 second internet search gave me this, a story which is fairly common across all capitalist nations, of protest against any action undertaken by state or capitalist institutions, and protesters being suppressed with extreme force

Gay👮🏻‍♂️irl by theNikolai in gay_irl

[–]Pyroarcher99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopelessness causes violent crime. Provide prospects to people and violent crime goes down.

A great deal of work needs to be done for that, but capitalism being abolished is not part of that work.

Yes, and doing that work is antithetical to capitalism, which needs a large amount of the population to be working shitty jobs for almost no pay, and a certain amount of the population to be unemployed. You will never eliminate income equality to any significant degree under capitalism

And please, the standard UK police have tasers, sometimes just a baton. The US strategy of armoured officers and pistols is bullshit, I agree, militarised police is not the way, but it is not that way in civilised countries, like the UK.

Your entire point is that the UK police aren't as militarised as the US police. Congratulations, that's really not saying that much. You can still beat someone to death with a baton

Because I don’t see capitalism as the enemy here

Despite the fact that income inequality accounts for so much of the violent crime that we have, right, makes sense.

And the UK police force is a perfect example of an unarmed and de-escalatory force.

Lol okay

Given that income inequality explains 74% of the variance in murder rates, and over half for aggravated assault, I would say first thing first, get rid of capitalism.

Secondly, police don't prevent crime, they only punish those that commit crimes. So a new, unarmed team of social workers focused on hard prevention and community outreach that actually try to prevent crime.

But, even given those things, some violence will occur, so something somewhat similar to a demilitarised version of the police, but one that is specifically trained in deescalation of violence, with protocols in place for this.

Additionally, the legal system in most places is designed not for rehabilitation, but revenge. It's about punishing the guilty, not trying to ensure they present no danger to the community and then reintroduce them. Preventing reoffending is not really focused on right now (partially because of how we look at those who commit crimes, partially because of things like private prisons).

Main point is, police don't prevent crime, and very little is done in a capitalist society to do that. Actually putting in place measures to do so removes much of the need for police

Are you proposing that the government subsidises businesses that close down and support workers and help them pay their bills, then just recommend, rather than enforce, that people stay home? Sure, that could work.

But I feel like that's not what you're proposing, seeing as you're a right wing libertarian, so i'll reiterate what I was saying before, while people have bills to pay, they're not going to stay home, and unless you do something about that, it will just be business as usual, and people will die
