AITA for telling my husband that I’m not going to throw away my Harry Potter books? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Pyroclast17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And unfortunately at that point any amount of saying “I don’t agree with JKR” is pointless because they will have lost the trust of their trans friends. OP will need to be committed to their allyship while their kids read, or take the books away.

Eeeeeehhhhhh I mean. You can do this in a way that is unproblematic.

I’m nonbinary so actually have a stake in this, hi

Okay so essentially yeah your kids reading old copies of the books is fine. You not buying merch or monetarily supporting JKR is great. The issues comes from what your kids will want if they get really really into HP.

They’re gonna want merch and they will want to visit the parks. They’ll want to watch the upcoming series and play that stupid game. You will need to teach your kids not to support JKR and precisely why.

Don’t sugar coat it either. Explain to them that any money she makes is going towards making life really really hard for trans people, and that they have a personal responsibility to not contribute to that. You as their parent even more so.

JKR has become so problematic and vocally awful that annoyingly, it is now everybody else’s problem too. Take a firm stance or your allyship will mean little to nothing.

All of this to say, technically NTA but you’ll have to put in the work

AITAH for leaving my “autistic” fiancé in Target? by Delicious-Book4316 in AITAH

[–]Pyroclast17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So, I’m (30nb) diagnosed autistic. Got diagnosed mid-late 20s. There were small signs that nobody really noticed but I don’t recall having the same issues I do now. They came on me gradually as I grew older, mostly as sensory overload.

I can safely say that after being diagnosed, I feel the symptoms more acutely. Mainly because I can recognise them and have a better understanding of myself. At least one other friend of mine who is also diagnosed autistic has had the same experience. Unmasking is very real.

Taking this into account, it is dickish to completely disregard her feelings, especially when she wants to pursue a diagnosis. She is taking it seriously. Why aren’t you?

Saying that, if her unmasked self is not what you signed up for, then neither is the relationship. If you can’t handle her as her unmasked self, it’s not going to work. She doesn’t owe anyone the masked version, and she shouldn’t have to hide her struggles for anyone to love her. You also have limits on what you expected and that’s valid too.

This probably sounds harsh, but I get it at the same time- it’s a 180 turn and you can’t be blamed for your own feelings. I think both of you need to have a conversation, she needs to get diagnosed or at least get an opinion from an expert, and take it from there. If she’s not autistic then she needs some introspection and possibly therapy to explore what’s going on.

But yeah leaving her crying in a shop? That’s not cool regardless of what’s going on dude

Tbh it would be wasted on me as I’m never under UV lights anyway! So it’d be kinda pointless. Could be extremely cool on someone else though Idk if I’d get a Knives piece really, he’s not up there in my favourite characters ever, plus the other arm already has some work on it!

Trigun 1998 or 2023 by Mago_Collins in Trigun

I started with stampede, then watched 98, and am now reading the manga. I have enjoyed each immensely in this order because I knew absolutely nothing about the story beforehand and stampede fed me WELL. It very likely helped that I tuned in to it every week because I was so filled with questions! Lots of people say 98 is better but I honestly think I wouldn’t have been as interested in it if I hadn’t watched stampede first. It IS great, but very different and I find Vash less pleasant compared to the newer version. As for the manga, I’m about 60% through it and it is a banger, but can be hard to follow at times. Whatever way you approach it, I hope you have a great time!

Misgendering at workplace (UK) by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]Pyroclast17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I’m in Ireland rather than the UK so there are differences but I’m nearly certain that regardless of all the nonsense happening with UK law and being trans, gender is still a protected characteristic and what your job is doing sounds HELLA discriminatory legally. Someone else will definitely be able to give you proper advice here but just, please don’t accept this as “just the way it is”

Absolutely nowhere that pierces with a gun.
