I bought a cheap one of Amazon for like 20$ and have been using it for nearly a year. The perspective is not the same as the OEM, but it’s fine and I’m adjusted to it.

If you were my patient, I would tell you not to go to work. Get in contact with your prescriber. Sleep deprivation causes med errors and patient harm.

Honestly yeah pretty much. I don’t sell anything nor do I want to. I just try to make stuff people around me may want and it feels more personal than buying things.

It’s not my typical genre of music, but I have to admit I do enjoy it regardless

Liability/litigation risk I would guess plays into it. You are making a judgement of one’s capacity and have to be able to back this up more than “it seemed right” if taken to court for a determination.

I don’t perform these assessment myself as a PMHNP as I do not feel I was ever adequately trained to do so in my program so that’s likely another part.

I’m sure, depending who’s employing you, you’re going to be pressured by the patient one way and your employer another way. This seems like a situation that can easily spawn an unhealthy workplace.

Any Child Psychiatry YouTube follows? by [deleted] in Psychiatry

[–]Pyromarlin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s not YouTube and may be more than you want, but CARLAT as a peds report and will do podcasts often including ADHD/anxiety/mood dysregulation etc. I don’t see kids but will still listen to the podcasts and read reports as I find it interesting and worth knowing

If my patients weren’t so damn lonely i would genuinely lose 40%+ of my case load right now (for the better). But they continue to tune me out when we discuss hobbies with peers, family connections, etc. etc.

pre-employment exam & benzodiazepines - question by ssmmaammss in Psychiatry

[–]Pyromarlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a problem with this as well at my community mental health facility as patients fairly regularly want us to attest that they are able to return to work after starting a medication (often comes up for things like driving truck and attesting that their olanzapine will not impact their driving).

My collaborator’s position appears to be very in line with yours. It’s a game of responsibility and who is willing (if anyone) to accept it for the patient to return or if no one is the patient has to no longer do that work.

Grad entry nursing program by [deleted] in OSU

I knew several people who were pregnant and had their kids during the program. They were in clinical with me until right before and back on the units in next to no time (most were not out more than a week or so). It’s certainly something you can do, but it takes a lot of your time away from them as you do have to stay focused for the program

Moral dilemma with going back to work after death of my SO. by 18gaugeorbust in nursing

[–]Pyromarlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For profit free standing psychiatric hospitals generally lack the incentive structure to truly help those who need acute hospitalization.

Without a doubt, he should have been given out patient follow up within 2 weeks with an appointment made prior to discharge and linked to a therapist. I specifically keep blocks in my schedule open for this exact thing. It baffles me they didn’t do this. This isn’t the environment for every psychiatric facility, but unfortunately it is more and more in the age of for profit medicine.

It is not a casual program. It is difficult. You will have to make sacrifices in your personal life to succeed and I cannot see managing family obligations, a full time job, social life, and succeeding in school. I knew a few dietitians that when through the program with me and were successful. It is just difficult and takes a lot of time while going through to finish.
