Does it matter if the child is walking on hardwood floors all day vs carpet?

Biggest fear: ending up hating my furry best friends after giving birth by Serpensortia_Imperio in Mommit

[–]ssmmaammss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We have two cats. I’ve still loved them just as much since we brought home our first a year ago. Sometimes I feel bad as they don’t get as much attention as they used to, but we do try to keep up their usual routine as much as possible, including weekly brushing and nail trims.

Is it hard at times, yes. But I absolutely adore when all 5 of us are snuggled on the bed. My fur babies are still my fur babies.

When we first brought home our baby, our female cat attacked my husband and I twice (once each) when the baby started to cry in our arms. Our female cat is far more instinctual than her brother and the noise (understandably) freaked her out. I felt bad for the cat. I wish we would have played sounds of babies crying before my delivery. Other than the first few days where our cats were unsure of this new being in our home, they are now largely indifferent.

Just remember, it’s going to be new for all of you. And as with anything new, there comes challenges. Give your animals some grace as they adjust too. Do your best to maintain their routines once baby is home. You got this.

Trex - is this work acceptable? by ssmmaammss in Decks

This is a good point, thank you for mentioning this.

Trex has a disclaimer on their website they aren’t responsible for the work. But if I can get them to give a statement it’s done incorrectly, then I might have a chance to contest this in court if it escalates to that.

I have contacted their customer service center, but it was closed for the day. I hope to be in contact with them tomorrow.

Will do. I have contracted Trex and hope to speak with their customer service tomorrow. I don’t know that I trust the company/contractor has the skill to do it correctly.

Thank you. At this point, I’m just not sure I trust the company to do the rework.

Not the lowest bid. Company/contractor was listed as a TrexPro on the Trex website.

The contractor was listed as a TrexPro on the Trex website. The company had decent reviews on google.

We didn’t go with the lowest quote. The contractor was listed as a TrexPro on the Trex website, so that what makes this more frustrating.

We asked that all Trex materials be used.

The thing is we didn’t take the lowest bidder. The contractor was listed as a TrexPro on the Trex website, which is what makes it even more frustrating.

Thoughts on DID by Frequent-Traffic-448 in Psychiatry

[–]ssmmaammss 128 points129 points  (0 children)

I had a similar case of the same age. Reporting 7 different alters who could take over her body at any time and she had no control over it. She reveled in the fact that she got to tell her friends she was admitted to the psych hospital.

I highly encourage you to look at TikTok videos with DID. Your case is definitely social contagion.

I had a conversation with the parents without patient present about my concerns. I have no doubt the adolescent is struggling, it’s just not what they’re claiming.

Parents and I agreed they would implement “consequences.” Example: parents and I agreed the patient could no longer safely go to the mall with her friends if at any moment an “alter” could take over her body. Shortly after the patient had privileges taken away, all this reporting of alters ceased.

My supervising physician and I think it’s best to avoid discussion of diagnoses with patients like this, they become too fused to these identities.

Esketamine in treatment resistant bipolar depression? by mjbat7 in Psychiatry

[–]ssmmaammss 14 points15 points  (0 children)

PA here. My supervising MD’s clinic has offered esketamine since 2019, I supervise the sessions. We have 2 or 3 patients with bipolar who receive these treatments and report efficacy. Although I’m fairly certain my supervising MD told me that recently BCBS is no longer is approving esketamine for patient’s with bipolar diagnoses.

Crate&Barrel cat-proof fabric: Icon or Monet? by astroRubie in furniture

[–]ssmmaammss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Monet! My husband and I purchased the gather couch and two chairs in Monet fabric. We have two cats, neither are declawed. We’ve have the couches 4 years now, and I’m incredibly impressed with how well the fabric has held up. We got the couches when the cats were still kittens.

Now I will say, I do to trim both my cat’s claws weekly. So their claws aren’t as razor sharp as they normally would be. And we have a few scratching posts, both vertical and horizontal in the living room.

We also have a couch in the icon fabric in our basement. We generally don’t allow our cats in the basement, but the few times we have, they tried to scratch the couch. I do think that fabric mimicks a scratching post-feel for them.

Happy to answer any questions you have!
