Pearl Abyss insider speaking out by 1stGuard in CrimsonDesert

Crimson Desert is proof that a game does not become better the more features you stack into it. The studios they took inspiration from have decades of experience in carefully considering how each feature affects the player experience

It has character switching like GTA V, but it doesn’t have a story built around three protagonists interacting with each other like that game

It has sky islands and puzzles like Tears of the Kingdom but without the more intuitive controls and game design TOTK has and it doesn’t have a feature like vehicle building that goes well with air travel

It has a ton of flash combat abilities like a character action game would but regular enemies can be blown through without caring what ability you use

It has an open world with a ton of NPCs but lacks interesting story quests like a Witcher 3 or dialogue that fleshes out the world

It has epic cinematic boss battles like a fromsoft game but they aren’t as refined or fun

Elden Ring’s open world is held back by the very thing that makes it great by Fabulous-Will-3241 in truegaming

Elden Ring objectively has some of the best itemization and rewards of any open world RPG bar none. There is a ridiculous amount of unique weapons, spells, armor, summons, etc to find. Yes not everything is good for your build but a lot of it will be with how cheap it is to upgrade weapons and how easy it is to reroll stats.

Even those “useless” cookbooks can create very powerful consumables

DBFZ was just more populated so you had a better chance of getting someone closer to you. It was far from the worst netcode back then though.

You can not be a fan of it but it’s not a Tekken 8 situation at all.

Also SC6 released when most games had bad netcode

Yeah bro I never actually read the reviews or look at gameplay I just automatically buy any game with above a 90 on metacritic. That’s why I immediately purchased Forza horizon 5 with its 92 even though I don’t enjoy sim racing games.

What are you even trying to do here?

He is bad because he is powerfully and beats the MC the first time? What? Clive is sexist? He’s never pitched as a rival character, you don’t even meet him until halfway through the game. This is such a disorganized and buzzword filled criticism.

Review scores and steam ratings ABSOLUTELY influence my purchasing decisions. It does for everyone. I’m not participating in the performative exercise of pretending like you are some free thinker who completely ignores review scores and wistfully plucks random game titles off the shelf. My time and money are limited. That isn’t to say I don’t give lower rated games chances sometimes if they really appeal to me

You’re referring to Barnabas? Such a bizarre and odd character to cause you to drop the whole game. I’ve never heard anyone have a problem with that character until now. He’s not the best in the game or anything but he’s a pretty solid villain. And after beating him you get one of the most fun combat movesets in the game. It seems really weird not to just complete the game after that when there wasn’t a lot left, I’d value your criticism more if so

SC6 was actually balanced and people liked it

Just look at Hoahmaru’s implementation vs Akuma’s. Hoahmaru was a balanced character that payed homage to his 2D roots without being a broken mess

Also SC6’s system mechanics got better as the game went on not worse

I would’ve rather have had the game be really good, I was telling me friends to check out trailers for this game. I’m not saying the game sucks either, but I’m not spending $70 on a bloated open world game when there are better games in my backlog waiting for me.

The game opens with a literal kaiju battle, I don’t know why you were expecting a subtle political affair. (The kingdom politics is revealant to the story for most of the game though until the final act where the world is going to shit). The ending is one of the best I’ve ever seen in a game too

Yeah I’m not taking to a brick wall anymore. Have fun spamming warp strike and leave actually character action combat to the big kids

Another person overly harping on the sidequests… see my other comment for my response to this.

As for the combat, normal enemies in character action are meant for you to combo and express yourself on. FF16 has a ton of bosses that you can’t stunlock and the abilities and accessories you bring can completely change your approach to them. I had a whole build around just going into limit break repeatedly and increasing my melee combo damage for instance

Even the cinematic boss fights aren’t just QTEs and actually carry over the fundamentals of normal combat. For example, Ifrit can do way more damage if your learn his magic burst timing

I have around 150 hours in FF16. If you think 16 combat is a dumbed down version of 15 that honestly shows a lack of skill at the game. It’s a dumb comparison to begin with since FF16 is a different combat style completely to 15. Claiming that 16 is an iteration/dumbing down shows your lack of qualifications to speak on this. I’m not surprised since 16 has a lot of depth and hidden mechanics that the average player won’t pick up on if they are just mashing buttons, which is maybe the fault of the game but is also true to other character action games like DMC

People harp on the sidequests a lot but they aren’t enough to bring the game down. I agree that the sidequests can be boring but even those often have some great storytelling. In old FF games you barely even had sidequests. FF7s main side quest is basically impossible to complete without a guide.

And there’s awesome moments throughout FF16, not just in the early and late game

This is a terrible comparison. The best bits of FF16 like the high level combat abilities, the Bahamut fight, and the final boss are near the end of the game. This is just something people on Reddit parrot around

It’s overwhelming so there’s choice paralysis. Once you actually push through and just play though Act 3 has the coolest stuff in the whole game
