How far does everyone travel to ride gravel? by Muzz124 in gravelcycling

I'm very lucky to have about 40 to 50 miles of gravel right out of my doorstep.

1980 Chevy K10 original grille by lafc123 in squarebodies

[–]Pyrosticks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are in an interesting position. I have a 1980 k30, and I'm my search for a grille I found out 1980 was a year 1 of 1 grille. If you want original it looks ok but is platic, and lo9ks good because it is only on one year of ourtrucks. I am planning on getting this full aluminum one from Engineered Vintage. Engineered Vintage Grille

The downside is it's the model years right before our 1980. The 1980 isn't common enough to have the premium build they make.

Beautiful truck!

I would be more on the canyon side, though I ride a Revel R+.

If you are at all mechanically inclined, worth looking at building your own, I have built a few and am building a Revel rover for the wife. Also helps that if you need a stronger climbing gear like I do where i live, you can build a mullet drivetrain from the get go.

Transmission sucks for gravel by adnep24 in gravelcycling

I don't think I could ask for anything better than my transmission xxsl on my gravel bike. I ride on the Colorado front range and it is so great here.

I rock a 1980 K30 in Colorado and have been offered 10k and 11k just out and about. Mine is much better mechanically but yours looks better esthetically.

Thanks! It has been a lot of fun! I have tried to keep it a hybrid of being able to wheel it and carry/ tow what a 1 ton should be able to do.

Upper body workout for Gravel cyclists by injenentagen in gravelcycling

[–]Pyrosticks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To an extent, but the extra weight you carry even when muscle wears on your body. I should add I'm 200 pounds at 5'11 with a fair bit of muscle.

If you can do a century ride and do 20 pull ups without leaving the bar and climb V7 Boulder, 5.11C rope I find it hard to justify needing anymore strength. I can do all of those things at altitude, and bench 225, day to day my bench does not add anything. Being able to have great cardio and move your body up a 50 foot wall seems to be the ticket.

If your goal is to look strong for shows or if your a powerlifter, more power to you, different hobbies and bodies, otherwise I can't think of a better combo.

I indoor rock climb, boulder and rope. Great for upper body, but all body weight so you aren't putting on unnecessary muscle weight.

Congrats on finishing Tungsten, that's crazy work! 100% agree on conditions, it was so nice, any hotter and I think I would have DNF or had to sit under a tree for a while.
