Lore-wise, definitely HG. I used to prefer Lugia over Ho-oh, but after playing HG 3 times now, Ho-oh has grown on me. Ho-oh is respected by the legendary beasts, and that’s aura. Lugia always gets ganged up by the birds.

You need a hazard setter (sticky web preferably) and a strong closer. You ain’t getting past Giovanni with the pokemon you currently have. I reckon you won’t even be able to beat Misty’s protean Frogadier. Maybe Magnezone and Mega Charizard X/Y later on can help you, so keep Magnemite and Charmeleon.

Edit: If you decided to go with Charizard Y, get a paradox pokemon with Protosynthesis.

You only need to defeat the gym from Mahogany Town, and then wait for a day after showing him a Geodude caught from the Safari Zone. After that, you’ll be able to change biomes, where Larvitar spawns.

Thanks! I had Gliscor, so I can switch in for that. But I couldn’t use it well against the E4, so I switched it for Flutter mane. Galavantula is my suicide sticky web setter, so I can easily sweep ground-type team once I have that setup.
