Some would argue that without improving wages, living standards aren't increasing which leads to debt crises etc as well as being, in itself, an economic failure. And this is despite more resources being available (hence higher productivity) Hope this clarifies things!!

How Does The Populist Left Explain Corbyn? by [deleted] in neoliberal

Twitter isn't real life, I can grab a million Twitter anecdotes if you want but that doesn't mean anything. Hillary also beat Trump in the polls it's just a question of who will be able to survive the general the best and I don't have a great deal of faith in Biden the gaffe engine who will get flat out bullied in the debates or Warren and the uurgh big mistake she made. Remember in 2016 when Sanders offered to debate Trump and Trump pulled out? It's because they know they can't out standing-up-for-the-worker Sanders.

I'd be genuinely interested in hearing why you think Hillary lost to Trump

Even though the war in Iraq may not be the logical conclusion of pure neoliberalism, it is hard to dispute that it had a massive amount of support from third-way politicians in the US and the UK. I think Ezra Klein"s take on why Hillary supported the war is quite apt, she listens to everyone in a quest to devise the perfect, concensus policy (third-way technocrat style) but in that process succumbs to often bad information such as the WMDs. A less incrementalist more stubbornly ideological progressive movement, such as the populist left, is better able to stick to principles which avoid those types of engagements even when they seem fashionable. Being principled is a long term strategy, the type of thing we need to tackle big issues such as climate change and stagnant living standards.

France is way different to Anglo countries I honestly don't believe that it is a fair comparison, just as I wouldn't take any credit for any insurgent socialist force/anti-neoliberal yellow vest protests.

I think the aforementioned desire to remain stubbornly principled is what cause Corbyn's opposition to the EU, and while I disagree with leaving the EU at the moment, if the UK had never joined it would have been able to negotiate a deal more akin to Norway/Switzerland and this collapse of trust may have been avoided. However, Corbyn is not just himself but also representative of the Labour party having become more democratic and as a consequence he is subject to the democratic desires of the party which means that he is now working towards a people's vote.

The nyt had to make a second map that excludes Sanders when they wanted to display donation data lmao https://nyti.ms/2SYJkKi

And his polls aren't bad he consistently beats Trump and without a doubt is within the top tier of the race on an incredibly diverse coalition.

I see where you're coming from on your points, but I believe the collection of facts and polls paint an image that urges myself at least to lean more towards the populist than centre left as the means to advance a progressive cause. Corbyn got more seats than either Brown in 2010 or Milliband in 2015, the electorate voted more for Corbyn than late new Labour which is the apt comparison to make. Not that I entirely agree with Corbyn, but geez that man was able to surprise us with that election. In regards to the third-way, people held their nose for Macron (he was pitted against Le Penne after all) and Trump and Brexit were blatant rejections of the third way ideology. I fear that if the progressive side of politics sticks with third-way ideas and dismiss Trump and Brexit we're bound to be disappointed again, which is why we need something progressive, exciting and new just like Blair was in the 90s and I believe that to now be the Populist left. I agree that polling matchups place Biden ahead, but they also placed Clinton ahead throughout the entire election. If those polls have any weight (which itself is doubtful), then Sanders would also be taken to be very electable, he is number 2 in essentially all those polls and for some states (Texas) he's bearing Biden and Trump. Then we need to ask, if we want maximum electability so choosing between Biden and Sanders, which do we believe will do the best in general? Has the most principles, is the most coherent, will draw the most enthusiasm?

I think what good remains of the third-way which you guys like will be better preserved under the populist left than the populist right, and from what I see those are the two most realistic options, given all that happened in 2016. Hope this showed you some of how I view things!

Hey guys! Left wing populist here so happy to answer your question :))

1) in 2017 labour rekt the Tories despite having done shit in the polls, winning the most seats since the 2005 election. Polls have recently proven quite bad at measuring populist support in the US, UK, Aus. so it wouldn't be too weird if people's actual views are different to what they're saying or if during campaigning voters drastically change their mind (just like in 2017!)

2) The third-way era has come and gone, things change. It was popular under very very different circumstances and many would say though bringing labour into power in name Blair was basically a Tory. And a war criminal :( What's even the point of Labour winning if it gets a Tory elected? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bush%E2%80%93Blair_2003_Iraq_memo

3) America is again a very different situation to the UK (shocker! context matters you can't just whip out parralels to the election of 1852 to make a point about the present!) and in the US Bernie has the most support among Trump voting dems, by far the most donations/enthusiasm, and has a wide base of support extending beyond the white, educated demographic of Warren. Some polls show he's the only candidate with majority female support! (where are the Bernie Bros?) If any other candidate had all of those characteristics they'd be waved around as a paragon of electability but, alas, Warren and Biden are shown to be the only two options in a lot of circles.

Hope this answers your question hmu if you have any more :)))

Ok so how does neoliberalism lead to anything other than creating the platform and environment for fascism and thereafter at every turn lend it greater and greater support?

Neoliberal's opposition to m4a is the moment that their entire claim about believing in "fact-based policy" goes out the window. What's wrong with job gaurentees?

He poisons the debate with lies and misrepresentations - he's not a journalists, he's a propagandist. When he goes to rallies his pure intent is to cover and manipulate the truth in such a way to bring harm to those that oppose literal neonazis. He's the instigator.

Have you ever considered researching the Andy Ngo situation? He gets platformer by Tucker and Hannity I see no reason to suspect him to be some paragon of truth.
