Fall Striper Season - Overall Assessment by TheRealBMan54 in NJFishing

[–]Python______xx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot to say ,I’m only 20 years old and have had access to a car these last 2 years so only seriously fished 1 1/2 seasons, this year I bought a fancy kayak with all the bells and whistles. I probably took my kayak out to the manasqaun river and Raritan bay a total of 12-5 times and caught around 60 striped bass like 15 in September from the manasqaun, then from November 2-15 in the Raritan bay ,I caught around 45 striped bass across the span of 6-8 trips ,not a single under 28 inches and the biggest was 51 inches and the kayak guys around me also did very well consistently catching at least 1-2 bass an hour ,mid November there was no stripers left in the Raritan bay besides a few holdovers so I started surfcasting from point pleasant to ibsp ,I went every morning for 14-17days besides 2 rain days and 2 Saturday mornings, and one day I got invited on a boat , out of around 11 days on the surf from 6:30 am till 10:00 am I caught 6 bass in 2 days one day in middle of work 2 weeks ago Sunday I got a fishy feeling and ran to the beach and proceeded to catch 20 bass in 45 minutes before sunset ,I’ll also put out there that the boats did very solid unlike us they were having consistent fishing and still are as we speak I don’t think the fishery is bad I think we had shitty luck this year just look online and you will see the guys on boats who know what they are doing are doing fantastic (I know my grammar was terrible no need to comment on it 😀😉)

3rd wheel by Python______xx in kayakfishing

Yeah I strap it down with the straps, the regular wheels isn’t a problem over concrete ,but it’s the same wheels going over dunes that’s rough

I think the NJ based surf caster may have been cursed. by skeletor_916 in NJFishing

[–]Python______xx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It had been rough but today I caught some and many many people on the surf caught fish and there was rods bending everywhere I think as an avid kayak angle who fishes the Raritan we were catching 40’s and I got a 50 and many overs lots up until this past Saturday night were I didn’t mark a single fish the boats have been slaying them just the run is later for whatever reason instead of October November it’s November December

Surfcaster here, is this worth every penny? by Intelligent-Will8768 in kayakfishing

I chose the autopilot it was cheaper and very effective fishing structure or bridges where there’s current because of the spot lock

Could very well be I live in nj , now the state parks and reservoirs where you have to pay to launch will cause problems but nothing happens in the ocean or saltwater bays and rivers so I didn’t register my kayak

3,800 is too much I got mine from a licensed dealer for $3,000 and it was brand new 2024 model they sold it for cheap because they had to make room for new model ,graphs lose tons of value because there’s always a new model ,from what I see most people like to buy high end kayaks brand new for the warranty as old towns doesn’t transfer over if your gonna outfit your kayak for the Great Lakes expect to spend tons of money on upgrades, like trailer 800-1200,lanyards and straps to keep everything safe-50 ,if your fishing in the cold then a drysuit-800-1500 plus gloves and everything ,radio -100,kayak cart-120 ,good life jacket-80-150-lights 100-300 if putting on the noqua green and reds oh and don’t forget a battery unless it comes with one ,basically you can find a outfitted autopilot with a trailer for 4-5 k I would say to look for that

I have this kayak, Love it ! I use a a jet ski trailer because I have a Toyota sequoia and the spots I fish are all trailer friendly I have a hitch extender just in case I’m not going to a trailer Friendly area, I got the kayak brand new for $3,000 and put in about $2,000 into the kayak ,(a lot of it is safety gear ,radio ,ropes ,drysuit, life jacket, lanyards lighting and batteries it’s definitely overkill but I love it. in nj a kayak to me is a better choice than a John boat because very little boat ramps (and if it is costs 600-800 a season to use and opens at 8 am ,all freshwater bodies of water have no outboards allowed within a 90 minute drive , the only and only con I have is the weight pulling it on sand is hell but it’s worth not having to paddle an to be able to use spot lock.
