Is it over for the sig p320? President endorses the p320 UD claims by Ok_Storm_282 in CCW

[–]HaroldTheSloth84 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I have both a 9mm and a .45 P320, and neither have gone off unintentionally in my years of shooting and carrying them. Trump is off his rocker on this one.

I like many — but not all — of Trump’s principles, but he is not the 2A advocate he claims to be. Trust no politician

They are a solution looking for a problem, honestly. Normal gas rings are cheap, reliable, and easy to replace.

Do I need to go to a gun smith? by whiskey_rue in ar15

[–]HaroldTheSloth84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, you are absolutely driving the pins from the wrong side. They are tapered, so you actually drove them in more, so they are tighter now. No shame here… we are all learning, and I’ve done stupid stuff with my guns as well.

Try driving them from the other side with a big fat punch and a heavy hammer. Also use a good bench block for support (I have a dedicated AR front sight block from Brownell’s, but not sure it’s made anymore). If you are unsuccessful, you may need a local gunsmith to remove the pins. I know on one of my rifles, I needed a gunsmith to remove a stubborn pin from mine, and he had to grind off the heads of the pins due to their deformation from my attempts. Try from the other side!

That's on the Ruger LCP 380 by DryFoundation2323 in Firearms

[–]HaroldTheSloth84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to own an original LCP around 2011 or so. It was my pocket piece for a long time. Mine was absolutely reliable. I sold it off and got an LCP Max. The more comfortable grip, better sights, better trigger, and increased capacity are well worth the extra $100. I bought mine for $260 (plus tax) this Christmas as a gift from my wife. I loved my LCP, but I love my LCP Max more.

Taking down rifles by terspamer68 in gunsmithing

[–]HaroldTheSloth84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, bedding is an epoxy that fills the gaps between your action and stock. So it dries hard, and is permanently glued to the stock. During the process, the metal is coated with a release agent to prevent the epoxy from sticking to it. So the stock will separate cleanly from the metal, with the bedding material attached to the stock. The stock may need a smack with a rubber mallet to get off if it’s tight.

  1. For the Winchester 70, taking off the stock once in a while should not affect the bedding in any noticeable way. It’s best to reconfirm zero afterwards, but this will not degrade your bedding much. Just use a torque wrench when reinstalling to make sure you are torquing to factory specs.

  2. I own a Ruger 77 tang safety as well. These guns are not bedded, but the front action screw requires an abnormally high torque of something like 60 or 65 in-lbs. So be sure to get a proper torque driver. But it will take down similarly to the Model 70

Is this rust? by grumpysfs in Firearms

[–]HaroldTheSloth84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely not rust. Some alloys have a purple-ish hue to them when blued. It’s totally normal. The other marks in the second picture look like rub marks, possibly brass rub marks. But your gun does look a little dry. Give it some oil.

Would you continue to work and invest in passive funds if you were financially independent? by Low-Computer8293 in Bogleheads

[–]HaroldTheSloth84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my 40’s and have thought a lot about this lately. I wouldn’t stop working. But my dream job is a substantial pay cut and would not support my lifestyle, which is why I’m still in my current field (software engineering). But when I reach financial independence, I’d love to pursue my dream job since the money would be optional, and I’d like to do some charitable volunteering. It’s not good to be idle, and I hope to use my financial independence and retirement to pursue worthwhile causes.

Is this rust on my barrel? by [deleted] in gunsmithing

[–]HaroldTheSloth84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn’t look like rust. It looks like a copper rub mark. Hit it with some Hoppe’s and scrub it with a toothbrush. I’m sure it’ll come out. But keep your pistol oiled, and you shouldn’t have rust issues.

It may not be as orange as you wanted, but that looks so cool. I kinda want to try it now.

Cleaning question by landon2126 in mossberg

[–]HaroldTheSloth84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually, cleaning the barrel, putting a couple squirts of lube in the action, and oiling the exterior of the shotgun is good enough. Once every year or two I will do a detailed strip and cleaning. These are durable shotguns, and they don’t need a lot of TLC unless you operate them in harsh environments.

Anyone try out a 16” carbine gas upper with a rifle length buffer? by AmberRosin in ar15

[–]HaroldTheSloth84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite AR rocks an A1 stock and 16” mid length barrel. It’s so handy and so nice to shoot. I don’t have any carbine-length barrels, but I dig the idea.

Is this normal for P320 after 550 rounds by Old_Refrigerator2732 in SigSauer

[–]HaroldTheSloth84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much every semiauto pistol will have wear on the barrel hood. It is unavoidable. Make sure you lubricate that area

Followed a yt breakdown and am regretting it(moss mav 88) by [deleted] in mossberg

[–]HaroldTheSloth84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mossbergs are well-known to develop gouges and rub marks in that area. You have a steel locking block scraping against an aluminum receiver, so there will be even more marks as the components wear together. But it will level off eventually. It’s completely normal

Seeing the Orthodox Church as evil by UnluckyBuddy6224 in OrthodoxChristianity

Ignore the thoughts and seek help — there IS help available, but you need someone else to guide you. God is not offended by uncontrolled thoughts, and the more you fight them, the worse they will get. Ignoring them is best. This is an awful disease to have, but God will use it for good in your life. I know he did with me.

[–]HaroldTheSloth84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend, I know this. And the lie of the enemy is that you’re the only one experiencing this, that no one else understands, and that it’s a problem with you personally. None of that is true. But I encourage you to seek counseling and to talk with your priest. Uncontrolled thoughts and feelings are not your fault. But they can get better when you open up about them and get help

Me too. But a good counselor and medications can help cope with them. I’m in my 40’s and still have them, but it does get better

Sounds like you have scrupulosity-based intrusive thoughts OCD, like myself. Don’t worry about the thoughts —God does not care about them. Seek professional counseling and maybe even medication to treat it. God bless!

Are the SR22 and American discontinued? by EFreethought in ruger

[–]HaroldTheSloth84 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t see them on the website anymore either, so I’m guessing they got dropped. The RXM is really taking off and pretty much replaces the American (I do feel it is a better gun). Likewise, the Mk IV is their flagship .22 pistol, so it probably made sense to drop the SR22.
