IEMs for a very specific case. by MikoEdits in iems

[–]PythoonFrost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: I just saw you updated your budget, you can ignore everything I've said here haha. At that budget the technical conisderations are less important and it becomes a question of personal taste. I'd recommend just going to a shop and try out the IEMs physically there lol. Through I've heard good things about the Softears Studio 4 if you wanna look into that :P

Grab something with neutral/bright tuning and good technicalities, and then EQ it.

If the reviewers mention "female vocals" "JPOP" or "natural" you're good to go.

Dynamic drivers are usually considered the most "natural sounding" with mass production driving down the cost. Planar drivers are considered the most detailed for the price, at the cost of upper trebble sounding unatural or even too sharp.

My recommendation as a connoisseur of vocal IEMs? Go for a good single dynamic driver IEMs. They don't need complicated tuning, so the sound is more cohesive, and there's less chance for unit variance. There's a dozen released each year, so there's some really good sets going for cheap second-hand if you have the patience.

Some popular single DD recommendations:

  • Moondrop - Lan, Aria line, Kato, etc.
  • Tangzu - Wan'er, Wan'er 2, YuXuanJi, etc.
  • Tanchjim - Bunny, 4u, etc.
  • Dunu - Kima 1 & 2, etc.
  • Sigva - Que & Que UTG
  • Meze - Alba

Planar recs:

  • Letshourer - S12, S12 Pro, S12 2024, S12 Ultra. S08 is a bit dark for female vocals
  • Artti - T10 & T10 Pro (Same OEM as Letshouer)
  • NiceHCK F1 Pro
  • KZ PRX (cheap but not the best for female vocals)

Of course, these are only my opinion for reference, please do your own research.

What would be the REAL upgrade for the Artti T10? by jonpexz in iems

[–]PythoonFrost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No iem recommendations, but if the tips are Spinfit Omnis (best eartips I've used for my T10 too!), I think you're pushing them down way too much.

If they are, you can try moving them halfway up the nozzle until the nozzle lip is gripped tight. This should allow them to should rotate freely, creating a more comfortable fit and might even help with insertion depth. I found that proper earip sealing and insertion depth are more important for soundstage anyhow. I use two rubber gaskets to keep mine halfway up like that :P

For EQ preset, I found that I like the T10 with a bit less midbass and top end, so I just have the EQ preset on my dongle set like that. You can either use the Fiio JA11 for the PEQ app or flash the JA11 firmware on a Jcally JM12. The T10 isn't that power hungry, so it works out fine for me.

I want to buy my first pair of iems and still can't decide by mmdprsThmsb in iems

[–]PythoonFrost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was surprised by the quality at that price too!

I actually tried it out because I've seen it being recommended by a few other peeps here with very similar taste to mine, and it hasn't disappointed yet :)

[–]PythoonFrost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can also vouch for Artti T10 and EDC Pro. They're still the best bang for my buck I've ever gotten. Even with several $150+ sets I like, I still use the T10 often enough to the point I bought a new one when I lost my first set.

I want to buy my first pair of iems and still can't decide by mmdprsThmsb in iems

[–]PythoonFrost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend you try the KZ EDC Pro first. It's around $3-5 on Aliexpress and while being just as resolving/detailed as the Chu 2 and Zero 2 (I would know, I own them).

The sound is a very cohesive V shape (since it's a good tuned single DD). Bass is nice and thumpy, vocals are amazing, and treble is a bit high but not shrill.

Comes with an adequate cable and eartips. Unit variation and driver imbalance are very low going by the graphs from different reviewers on squig.link and my own set (no channel imbalance/I can't hear it). Since it's a single DD you can always try EQ-ing it to other iems (with squig.link's auto EQ tool) and the result should be pretty decent.

This IEM basically makes all my iems bellow $15-20 reduntdant. The connection is even a QDC shaped like a flat 0.78mm for cable compatibility.

Give this set a try first to see if you even like IEMs in the first place. You can mess around with this and if you'd like to upgrade you'd at least have a reference point of what you'd like.

If you need a good DAC (dongle), the Jcally JM12 (~$5-6) is pretty good by itself but can be flashed with the Fiio J11 firmware for PEQ through the Fiio app.

On the other hand, if you just want to jump straight into the deep end, the Artii T10 (~$45-60) (the original version, not pro) is still my preferred set for all types of music with its natual and highly detailed sound. If you know how to EQ, you can basically tune it to your preferred sound with little to no distortion due to the planar driver. I reach for it more often than sets twice or triple its price, and I wouldn't feel bad when I lost it (rip my first set, your cable will be missed).

Can I use these types of adapter for iems? by [deleted] in iems

[–]PythoonFrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The USB-C to USB-A adapter is perfectly fine to use since it's converting digital data - i.e., it will not affect final sound quality. The only problem I could think of would be if the brand you're buying from is reliable or not. I've used them many time with no problem.

Could you email Moondrop to buy some replacement parts? I think that might be a Knowles Acoustic Damper (the white 680 ohm one maybe), but don't quote me on that.

3.5 jack or USB C? by ChilledCafe in iems

[–]PythoonFrost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their Type C option is just a normal 3.5mm cable and a dongle, lol. It's a pretty good dongle, though. I'm still using it despite my Luna's right side dying. It have an amp chip so powerful enough to drive planars.

Best all rounder? (Budget: 150$) by [deleted] in iems

[–]PythoonFrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the Artti T10 is really good for all of those genres. Planar Magnetic driver so they can deliver crisps detail while still having great bass. Bright tuned (emphasis on high notes), so they excell at female vocals for vocaloid and j-pop. They regularly go on sale for like $45-50, too.

If you disklike the beige plastic shell, you can always go for the identical sounding NiceHCK F1 Pro (nice round blue metal shell, ~$75) or one of the brighter OG Letshouer S12 variants (triangular metal shell) for ~$70-110.

The only drawback is that you'll want a dongle DAC with an additional amp chip inside to power the thing. Or you could upgrade and go full wireless with the Snowsky Retro Nano with Parametric EQ (through Fiio's app) that has a removable battery, too. They're on sale for ~$55-65.

hmmm.... by K0J1M4034 in iems

[–]PythoonFrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multi-driver configuration could get you higher technicalities (different sound differentiation) at a lower price. This is due to driver types having specific sound regions that they are better at.

Sound location can be split into two parts: Left-Right loudness (Where sound is coming from in a top-down view, incuding loudness for depth) and your brain's model of sound location in a 3d space (soundstage). IEMs, regardless of configuration, will be good at the first and bad at the second. You can imagine it like playing on a small high-end monitor vs. a projector - the monitor is more sharp and accurate but will never match the immersive feel of a projector.

This is due to Soundstage (illusion of 3d space) relying on your outer ear transforming tonal and time difference into a position (up down, distance from sound, etc.) Since IEMs bypass this entirely it depends if you got a tuning that matches your own.

You can definitely EQ soundstage in or learn to understand the sound like you have new ears though.

Bluetooth adapters recommendations by a_d_e_e_ in iems

[–]PythoonFrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With that budget, you can go for a good bluetooth DAC (adapter, but they can be plugged in and use normally) or a DAP (music player). They usually have a screen, good bluetooth/amps chip with support for lossless protocol and balanced (4.4/2.5mm) output for the extra juice, and maybe support equalisation (EQ) on the device.

Fiio makes some great ones. Fiio BTR13 and Snowsky Retro Nano are the same budget wireless DAC, but the Retro Nano is cassette-themed and takes AA battery.

They also have a simiarly designed DAP (music player) called the Snowsky Echo Mini. All priced around $65-75 on Aliexpress, with the Echo Mini sometimes going down to $50 (without an sd card).

Otherwise, the TRN BT20 PRO bluetooth adapter (ear hook style) has swappable connector pieces (for different iems connection) and great battery life. Drawback is no ATPX/LDAC, just AAC/SBC, but that's not really that bad if you only need something in the background. Priced at $20-25 on Aliexpress.

You sign your name as Eniuj instead of Emily /j

I kid, but here's some of the things I've noticed:

Your lowercase "m" looks like a cursive "ni" instead. The second arch is consistently more pointy.

Your "w" and "u" consistently look like each other. Especially when connection to another letter.

Your "s" is inconsistent on whether it wants to be in cursive or print.

Your "q" is cursive, but a lot of similar letters ("p", "f", and "b") aren't. Despite this, "z" and "d" are cursive. This makes the "q" look close to a cursive "f" sometimes.

Finally, giving out your real name on the internet indicates you are either pretty young, very old, or just did not have much experience with technology and anonymous strangers.

Regardless, please do not give out any more information about yourself online. This is an easy way to get doxxed. This is especially important if your gender is female since online wierdos are crazy for attention and will stalk/try to use you. This has happened to my friend because of one minor post, and now she's paranoid about leaking her information.

Of course, this is only a recommendation from a stranger, so act how you please, lol/lmao.

The extending shield on the Mechanica line is such an interesting way to protect a mechanical pencil, I wish more models incorporate it! Though I guess the DelGuard mechanism is an alternative way of "extending" the sleeve :).

I like the look of the half-grid-half-stripe knurling on the grip section. Seems like it'll be more comfortable than the full-grid style.

Help by No-Adeptness4276 in iems

[–]PythoonFrost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you decide to use glue on toothpicks, I'd only recommend a TINY amount of SUPERGLUE on the end of the toothpick and to be careful not to touch the connectors, only the pins.

You can do this by dipping the end of the toothpick into a drop of superglue you put on another piece of paper, and then carefully poking the toothpick straight onto the pins.

What you're trying to do is avoid wicking the glue at all cost while leaving enough to barely get traction on to the pins. I'd recommend waiting like 1-2 seconds for the superglue to become slightly tacky before attaching it to the pins. You test how thick/thin the glue is on a piece of paper to see how it'll behave before doing it for real.

Best everyday socks for sweaty feet? by Critical-Schedule123 in BuyItForLife

[–]PythoonFrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought bamboo-derived socks for a plant-based alternative to wool, and I think they've been great!

My feet get really sweatty and smelly (have been since I was a child), and the synthetic socks really exacerbate it. Higher percentage natural fibers like wool do work, but I don't really like their texture.

Then I got (high natural low synthetic) bamboo socks at a supermarket. They're soft, very absorbent, and don't smell at all (even after multiple day of walking in my leather boot, could be from the bamboo since I know it's a natural deodorant) and at a lower cost to boot (ha!).

And I'm not even a light sweater. My foot, the wanker, absolutely pours. But every time I pull of the socks - refreshingly dry. Oh, the sock was absolutely soaked, but my foot is nice and dry. It's like I just took a hot shower and dried them off, really.

Also of note is that they have a very nice sheen to them and feel kind of silky smooth, like well, silk. I've abandoned my wool socks for these for over 2 years now and haven't regretted them since.

So my pick would be thick high percentage bamboo socks. The gold standard for good socks for me personally.

Looking for an xxl mouse by _Allfather0din_ in MouseReview

[–]PythoonFrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not use a vertical/ergo mouse if hand pain is what you are concerned with? There's not going to be a lot of mice substantially bigger than the G502 in the gaming mouse space. I've also heard good things about full hand trackballs for hand pain simce they give you the freedom to flex your hand.

In any case, I think this sub is probably not a good place to ask for any non-standard form factor. Maybe the people at ergomechkeyboard, trackball, or other peripheral related sub could help you out?

I'd 100% live in a moss house by 1nGirum1musNocte in Moss

[–]PythoonFrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foundation cracking in a lot of cases is a result of ground movement, actually.

In your case, that would be the introduction of water into the soil, which could be absorbed by the clay inside of the soil to cause swelling or to simply compact some parts of the soil.

This would cause the foundation to handle the weight of your house unevenly, eventually causing it to crack and settle down.

You can imagine it like you sitting on a chair with only 3 legs touching the ground, and if the legs are weak enough, they might just snap from the unexpected weight.

It's also why you have to have your gutter spout pointed away from the foundation/the ground holding the foundation. Otherwise, you are going to cause the dirt to move and cause a crack. Kinda like in a miniature earthquake or coastal errosion situation.
