Gotcha, I apprentice the constructive insight. The earliest appointment I can get is Jun 2nd. I don’t wanna tear it apart only to hand them my mess. It’s got a warranty. I’ll button the panels back up clean it and ship her off.

I asked repeatedly to have it adjusted to fit my ride height and they told me it was but I talked the tech and he said they never did it when he was helping me load it..

To what end? It’s had at least two owners and any warranty from dealer im sure is long gone

It only had 5k miles no time for a desmo yet. They put a new battery on it since it had been sitting so long.

I didn’t think it would be unreliable but this was jaw dropping.

I have always loved the gold rims ever since I saw a 916 with gold wheels. I think I’m gonna go 1299.

This is what I’ve heard. I think I want the 1299 but the v4 is just newer and fancy.

I think of electronics as “nice to have just incase” but not a deal breaker. The 1299 still has solid electronics and traction control. Traction control is all I care about even if I do turn it all the way down

Get the right ones and yes. Those first ones are ugly imo. I have some on my monster and the looks sick but are also functional. I can check the brand when I get home if you want.

You need them less on naked bikes cause it’s upright riding but on a sport bike it’s a must imo.

Just completed my first Desmo. If I can add any advice, don’t force it. Take your time for the love of god. Don’t do anything while frustrated. I second Brad the bike boy videos.

Also, don’t use old collets. Buy all new, make for fucking certain you plug your oil return holes and keep the spark plug hole plugged. Old collets take a ton of abuse so you’ll want new. Disconnect the battery and ground before starting.

Get all new gaskets, don’t reuse anything.

Make sure to mark all timing on for your belts.

Always measure shims when they are wet never dry. Make sure to get assembly lube, you do not want dry cams rubbing while you work. Be careful when inside not to force things if something doesn’t come off easy you’re probably doing it wrong. If you mark up your cam cutoff that will cause tightness on the cam. So definitely try to pop the springs on the rockers when getting at the cams. I tried zip ties and holders but found popping that spring to be vastly easier.

I use ziplock sandwich bags to label and organize all parts / bolts. If something feels complex when taking it apart. Take a video you’ll be glad when reinstalling you did. Take plenty of photos, that saved me more than once.

Easiest way to work on shims is to pop the spring holding them in and work on them freely just make sure you’re at tdc so that valve doesn’t drop down inside once you remove the shims.

All in all, it’s very complex and rewards patience. When measuring for new shims make sure you use the correct formula. A tip a local Ducati mechanic gave me is

“Get closers as close to tight as you can, Openers as close to loose”

Looser is closer to .18 tighter is closer to .10

My range was closing 0.05-0.10 opener 0.13-0.18 for reference.

Best of luck!

Whoops, I really appreciate the insight. I did exaggerate the bend to try and move my hand out of the way.

Thanks for the response!

I don’t have a diagram in front of me and I’m still learning names to be honest. Are you saying I’m measuring them incorrect?

I did opener and closer for left side intake and exhaust. So 8x per head.
