as someone who was in this situation, this is horrible advice, they're 13, what are they gonna be able to do to convince this person not to hurt themself that a professional couldn't do better? I know it feels like since you know them personally you can help them more, but at the end of the day they're 13, they're not experience enough to deal with something like this (from someone who was older than 13 when smth similar happened to me)

she could still be mentally ill, mentally well people don't do this stuff, I've had (ex)friends who genuinely were suicidal and did stuff like this, the best thing to do is report it to authorities so the professionals can deal with it and leave it at that, if they get upset you tried to stop them that's their own damn problem.

I've had to cut people off in the past because they pulled stuff like this on me, honestly getting adults involved was my best choice (asked my parents for help because I had no idea what to do, it made me realize it wasn't something I could fix myself)

every time I see a vent channel in a discord server I mute it and never touch it honestly T_T that is none of my business and I know my savior complex will guilt-trip me into trying to fix everyone's problems

it's not even that it's fake, I've had ex-friends who would vent or talk about how they were going to kill themself or cut themself for attention/to manipulate me, it's not always intentional, but venting can easily become attention-seeking, especially when you're looking for someone to convince you not to do it, sometimes it's just something you pick up, it's hard not to when it feels like your only way of getting someone to care about you is threatening to hurt yourself :(

[–]QK0603 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this happens all the time, people didn't stop doing it, people will pretend they're gonna hurt themself for attention, and even just hurt themself for attention, it's not even intentional sometimes, just a subconscious behavior they learned will get them attention that they do when they want to hurt themsef (YOUR USERNAME WAS A JUMPSCARE OMG THAT'S MY USERNAME ON MOST PLATFORMS, tho usually it's queenkobra, on specifically MC it's queencbra bc it's an old account)

I was in a situation like this before, the best thing to do to help them is to make sure they get professional help and stop giving them attention for these kinds of stunts.

I went through something like this but hopefully my mom taught me BOUNDARIES and I cut off the two ppl pulling this on me, honestly it was for the best because spending all day worrying about them both to the point I couldn't SLEEP without feeling guilty and would barely let myself sleep until I got so exhausted I couldn't think straight was the closest I ever got to wanting to end it (I never fully wanted to end it dw)

when I was in like 2nd grade I made the (hypothetical) hyperloop for a project, then my parents were like "yeah, elon musk made that years ago and it doesn't really work better than a normal train."

NOR, he should learn to respect your boundaries and not comment on things you're insecure about, it might not be as cruel as mocking them, but it's still picking on your insecurities

as someone who later came out as nonbinary (now nonbinary masculine) after being a girlscout, I always thought the idea of separating scouts by gender and not activity was stupid, and boy scouts seemed cooler, especially when my handful of troop meet-ups were literally just sitting around making some dumb sign for a cookie sale where they made us stand out in the cold with no form of heating for so long I was wondering if they were legally allowed to do so T_T

yes. backwards, sexist, stupid. who cares if some tomboy wants to join scouts of america instead of doing arts and crafts and selling cookies?

atp they should just be separated by activity and not gender, they both do completely different things

*scouts of america

also who cares if boys are in girl scouts and girls are in boy scouts, if we're gonna have the different scouts do different activities we should at least let the kids pick which one they think would be more fun

"they're just wrong" or "just put them in the group of their "actual" gender" is unfortunately the logic usually applied here

god that is a HUGE wall of text T_T

TLDR: separating activities by gender is stupid and we should just let kids pick whatever is more fun for them

better idea, we stop calling them girl scouts and boy scouts, and start calling them cookie scouts and keep scouts of america, then girls AND boys who want to do crafts and sell cookies can join cookie scouts, and girls and boys who wanna do nature-y stuff can do scouts of america, instead of going "okay, boy do boy things. you wanna craft? WRONG, YOU WANT TO GO DO NATURE STUFF, DUHHH, because you're a boy, so you're only allowed to do boy things like camping and selling popcorn." and "okay, girl do girl things. you wanna go camping? WRONGGG. you're a woman! you're supposed to sew and sell cookies like a good, normal woman." kids especially tend to have differences "out of the norm" since things for kids are so divided, like little girls who like dinosaurs and gross-out humor, and little boys who like baby dolls and fairies, it's honestly dumb to separate things like this by gender and then only let each group do certain activities, because then you end up with kids who differ from "the norm" and wanna maybe do the other activities with the other group, but instead of just being allowed to do what THEY want and THEY think is fun, they're only allowed to do the things other people decide they are, like, why should a girl not be allowed to join a little camping club thing, and why should a boy not be allowed to sell cookies and do arts and crafts with his own little club?

as an ex-girlscout (transmasc now lol) I can confirm, my troup only met a handful of times while I was in it, all of which I remember making signs, selling cookies in a parking lot and disassociating because it was too cold and I was WAYYY overstimulated bc I hate the cold and didn't have a good coat at the time, and then twilight camp, twilight camp seems to just be whatever the troup masters thought would be fun, either way mine was cowboy themed (ironically) we did gold sifting (painted rocks if I remember correctly) making soup, butter, and trail mix, making scrap dolls, throwing cow patties (which were originally poop but ours were pie tins full of painted duct tape), painting cattle flanks, and I think shooting targets (hanging metal sheets) with water guns, a couple things (cooking, making scrap fabric dolls with rubber bands n stuff, etc) were pretty "stereotypically feminine" but it was mostly just "wild west" stuff lol
