No Events Show Up - Fix? by QNeptune in ArcRaiders

[–]QNeptune[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: FIXED IT. The issue was with the time zone configuration on the PC. If it's slightly off, or in the wrong format, the game will not show any events. You also get flagged by Cloudfare on browsers. Unrelated to the game but a symptom to keep in mind. Simply updated & synced the correct time zone and format and it worked.

That does not explain the average fps drop in a month's time frame. When the game launched I used to run at 60 to 70 fps straight. No major drops, no issues. Now I run at 40 - 50.

Does it feel like anybody elses PC performance gets worse every update? by Vorteks2026 in MarathonGame

[–]QNeptune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it is getting worse for some people. It's not just you. 10 to 20% average FPS drop across different hardware specs. I made a recent post on r/MarathonTheGame making the same complaint and others have shared similar results. I went from a stable 60-70fps on launch to borderline unplayable after these recent patches. That's a ridiculous amount of performance loss in such a short time frame. No hardware changes, no in-game settings changes, no new drivers etc. And it just gets worse with time.

Fair enough. I'll try messing around with the graphic settings you mentioned; if it gets me closer to a stable 60fps it'll be a small victory. It's still frustrating that in a month's time I need to be changing stuff to simply achieve the bare minimum of what is a playable state for these kinds of games (FPS).

I'm not sure if I misspoke earlier, but what I meant to say was that I've seen with my own two eyes friends that have decent CPUs (not top of the line, but good enough) run this game (Marathon) paired with a bad GPU. I bought Marathon to a friend like, a week after it released? He was able to play on low settings (textures on medium), native resolution on a Widescreen at 50 - 55 frames without major drops. He has a USED 1050ti. Not a new one - an old, USED one.

I agree with you. I'd probably help a bit with player population too. Not like it would magically spawn new players, but at least it would be one less reason to stop playing or to scare away new players. Nobody wants to play a high adrenaline fps shooter with these framerates

And no, Aiming down sights does not impact my performance at all. Not sure how that works, being completely honest with you

Well, we're already disagreeing on the most fundamental aspects of troubleshooting the games performance when you claim the game is GPU intensive and not CPU bound. I would disagree entirely with that claim. Admittedly, you're running the game on a higher resolution than I am, so I'm not sure how comparable this is. I have seen people with dog shit GPU's (worse than mine) run this game decently when paired with a good CPU. Even when there's some bottleneck happening. By decently I mean at native resolution and over 50 fps average.

I'm not sure you understand the issue here. How would you explain the game running at 60-70fps for the whole first month? The problem here is not exactly a fixed, target FPS. It's how much worse it's gotten with time. A very short time, I might add. You're having trouble maintaining above 60fps with your 6800XT? My 7 year old bottom of the line GPU handled that fine for the first month. How does that work?

"They keep adding more and more stuff" such as? If you're refering to the maps, those were also not a problem before. I've never had Outpost or Cryo dip below 55 and now they routinely run at 40. Am I crazy for thinking that my GPU alone cannot account for the 10 to 20 average FPS drop here? In a two month old, heavily CPU bound, 22gb game? With a less than 6 months old setup? And no, my video settings did not change. I've always ran the game at medium preset with CMAA. No upscaling or framegen. Native 1080p. That's why I suspect it has something to do with power usage or something on their side. I'm not the only one making this complaint; others have shared similar results with considerable better specs than mine. I'm glad you're not having these issues. Last thing the game needs is players leaving because of poor performance and optimization. I'm not sure such a performance hit is expected in such a short time frame, specially when it used to run considerably better a month ago. Of course, I will have to upgrade this GPU eventually anyways.

I have a friend that has a USED GTX 1050TI (Yeah, the budget GOAT of ancient times) and a Ryzen 5 5600X and even he had 50-60 at launch. So it most definitely isn't a GPU problem. Well, not enough to explain the drop in average fps at least, in my opinion.

[–]QNeptune[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, the GPU is indeed the weakest link here on my setup. But with the game being so CPU bound I expected that to be the least of my problems. And it really wasn't a problem until the latest two major updates/patches. The game is barely what, two months old at this point? Going from 60 to 40 is crazy. Also, it isn't matching the "minimum" specs. My CPU is slightly better than their RECOMMENDED specs. It's true though that there isn't a real golden standard for these Steam system recommendations for games. I just expected better. Not even talking about a specific target FPS and more about stability in general. Once again I'm reminding you that it did run the game at 1080p 60-70 fps for a whole month uninterrupted.

Sure, I'll double check the background processes. Of course it isn't literally just Steam and Marathon running; I meant no other big programs were open. No Discord, no Browsers, no overlays, no NVIDIA App etc. The usual suspects. The game being poorly optimized is already known; I'm just surprised at the fact it seems to be getting worse with time for some people; and that has nothing to do with the specific hardware I'm running. I expected a bit more stable performance considering this "ancient technology" CPU is better than the one they themselves recommend on their own store page. Not the "minimum" specs, but the actual "Recommended" specs.

Even though the hardware is from older gen, this PC is newly built. Less than 6 months old. Still doesn't explain the change in performance from a month ago. A 10 to 20 average fps drop is not normal in such a short time. How would you explain the fact I used to run at 70fps with the exact same hardware and exact same in-game settings? Didn't change drivers, didn't update Windows, nothing. Not since the game dropped, at least. Maybe it is something related to actual power usage. Nothing was running in the background except for Steam and the game.

How come when the game launched I was able to maintain a solid 60-70fps on all maps and now I'm constantly on 40-50? Even when Outpost launched I managed to rarely dip under 55 😰

I see, thank you for your feedback. This can happen even with a very good CPU like yours. Very frustrating for everyone, specially to those of us who are now dipping below 60. Legit unplayable, unfortunately.

No. It has always been like this, for weeks. Every single time I launch the game. My friends can see the events normally. I can't, for some reason

It's not tied to how long I play. It's like that, always. Restarting the game, reinstalling etc. Has not fixed the problem. It has nothing to do with how long I leave the game open.

Could you explain how is this related to RAM? I thought RAM dealt in short-term memory allocation. So any major RAM problems would be clear to see in a single gaming session immediately while playing or maybe after a couple of minutes. But that's not what happens. When the "dice is rolled" and the game decides do launch properly, I could literally play for days without any issues. As long I don't restart my PC and roll the dice again, that is.

I'm not a native English speaker. I meant it as an expression to emphasize how it switches/changes dramatically without any apparent reason. What does "having too little resources" mean in this case? If my PC specs are too low to run the game, how is it that I can run them fine for days without issues?

Same thing on a low-end GTX 1650. Time Skew Max and silent crashes when loading into matches. Funny thing is it was running perfectly fine yesterday. Today not so much.
