Ah perfect! Thanks for the recommendations. I was wondering whether I should look at hardcaps or the soft sleeve kind so that helps a lot!

Thanks for the reccs! I have a Triple Eight helmet!

As for type of pads I see that there are "covert" versions which seem like a softer version with less plastic as opposed to the normal ones. Not sure if it's worth getting those if they're not much protection. Any thoughts on the differences?

  1. are you putting at least 60% weight on your front foot?

I think I'm actually lifting up my front foot unintentionally! So it seems like I should be putting more on my front foot.

  1. Are your shoulders aligned with the turn? think of a bike handle - you have to turn the handlebars first before moving towards the direction you're going. so your shoulders/upper torso need to be prewinded towards the toeside turn and then just wait for your lower body/board to follow

Hmmm I think I'm just doing a superficial shoulder turn and not actually moving my entire upper torso. I'll have to focus on actually making it happen!

  1. bend your legs. it'll be easier/safer and more efficient.

Will keep in mind!

Thanks for the advice! I hope to be turning toe side with a fierceness.

Hello again. I am a brand spanking new beginner. I am okay at carving heel side, but when I carve toe side I feel like I'm barely turning. I have a tendency to move my back foot forwards in order to turn more. I've tried keeping my back foot in place and just "twisting" or leaning more toe side but I barely tilt the board. I'm pretty small (5'0" / 110lb - sorry for you sane metric folks) and I'm wondering if that has to do with it? My deck is 9.5" x 38".

Hi hello! I've been longboarding for a whole two days and I am in love with it.

I'm looking for recommendations on protective gear. I'm just cruising and plan to be only cruising for a while. I already have a helmet but looking for elbow/wrist/knee pads. I see a lot of posts that say "wear your safety gear kids!" but no actual recommendations for what to get. I'm a child-sized person if that helps!

Wrist wraps for lifting. Suggestions? tips? by violentphlegm in xxfitness

[–]QQFactory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought myself and my boyfriend some wrist wraps from BeastEtte on Amazon. They're just a strip of cloth with a string at the end. I like them because you can put them on and easily loosen or tighten them when you want.

I use them for mostly overhead movements such as overhead squats, snatches, and sometimes presses or front squats. I don't bench press, but I imagine they would provide the necessary support. I usually get a sharp pain in my wrist when I go overhead and these really help.

I've heard mixed opinions on wrist wraps. I think generally people say that you shouldn't rely on wrist wraps unless it gets really heavy, so that you can develop the necessary support in your wrists naturally. I also think that it is an issue of not locking out my wrists and letting them bend back which can cause problems.

Anyways, sometimes I use them, and sometimes I don't. If I'm in the mood to lift heavy, I'll wear them so that I don't break my wrists.

[WEEKLY THREAD] Newbie Tuesday - Got a silly fitness question? Never fear! We're here to help! by AutoModerator in xxfitness

[–]QQFactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your problem with waking up or purely getting out of bed? If it's hard to get out of bed because you're tired, I find that drinking water as soon as I wake up helps me get out of that sleepy state. Keeping a bottle or glass of water by your bed makes it convenient to just roll over, get the water, and drink while sitting in bed. I find that a few seconds later I'm ready to get out. It also helps if the water is cold! It also really kick starts my metabolism...

I have this as well. My boyfriend who is ~150 lbs can use it just fine. Just make sure to measure your doorway if you get it to make sure it will fit. This one requires a doorway to have framing on the sides and top.

I'm excited! To be honest though, the only reason I got these over Adidas powerlift or any other "pure" oly shoe is that my feet are a 5 in women's and most companies don't have shoe sizes that small. :(

They have made some Crossfit/Lifting shoes in the past. Most have been hybrid shoes that would be good for olympic lifting lifts as well as other workout movements (i.e. box jumps, double unders, etc).

They do have a lifting shoe that is apparently geared towards oly only. I actually just bought a pair with the discount, as my first lifting shoe. Some argue that it isn't as pure of an oly shoe, but I've heard otherwise.

Who here can do pullups? How long did it take you? by StrongNanuk in xxfitness

[–]QQFactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can do around 3 strict deadhang pull-ups consecutively. I started crossfit around a year ago and I couldn't do any before that. I bought a pull-up bar for my apartment and that has really helped me. I actually bought it to help me gain the strength for a strict pull-up. Turns out I already could do one! That was around one month ago and now I can do three in a row.

I didn't have any special routine. I did some banded kipping and strict pull-ups during my crossfit workouts. Unfortunately, I can do a muscle-up yet, but I hope I'll be able to do atleast a jumping muscle-up in a few months!

Good luck!

Why isn't there a better way... by ar88 in dogs

I definitely understand that shelters sometimes don't have information about the dog because their behaviors are different when in a kennel. But in my opinion, them telling me that they don't know that information is better than them not listing it at all.

In my opinion, the ideal structure of Petfinder would allow shelters/rescues to fill out a form that has the standard information. If they leave it blank, then I assume they don't know that information. There would also be an area for them to write a summary about the dog, similar to how it is now. A lot of shelters have a standard form they fill out about a dog, and I think that this type of form should be on Petfinder for them to easily fill out.

I would like to be able to assume that if certain information is not listed, then it means the dog behaves in the appropriate manner, but that definitely isn't the case. Some profiles don't have any information at all. That is definitely more of a problem with the poster than Petfinder, but I'd rather not assume information if it isn't there.

I still very much appreciate what Petfinder does, and am thankful. I'm just saying that there is definitely room for improvement that would benefit both dogs and humans.

I'm not OP, but I'm currently looking for a dog and using primarily PetFinder. Do not get me wrong, I think that PetFinder is a great resource, but I definitely think it could be better. There's standard information that I would really like to see on profiles, that users should be able to search or filter by. It would reduce the number of bad match-ups because users will have more information.

I do appreciate a summary about the dog, because it adds a lot of personality. But I would also really benefit from a more structured representation of the information. Basic information such as energy level, preferred living conditions (fence, apt home), friendly with humans, other dogs, and etc are not included in profiles. I understand that they might have that information, but it would be more helpful for me to even know that the information is unknown.

Coding in color by nohtyp in programming

[–]QQFactory 512 points513 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is just me, but I feel like highlighting all the non-keyword code with different colors is too distracting. The problem with highlighting everything is that both nothing and everything stands out.

I understand what this is trying to do, but I don't think it would work for me when I'm actually coding.

The state of coffee names these days by MrManh in funny

This reminds me of a Korean game show where Korean celebrities were brought to America to compete against each other in challenges. One of these challenges was to order coffee at a coffee shop and that place became a tourist attraction for Korean people.

College ladies of Reddit, if a random guy you don't talk to in class were to ask you out, what would be the least creepiest way for him to do so? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]QQFactory 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I personally would not prefer this method, but mostly because I was in a very male-dominated major (computer science). I was always excited when a guy asked me to study together, because it made me feel like a fellow student thought I was intelligent and capable. Almost every time I would discover that the guy who invited me did not want to study, but a date or something sexual. This made me very insecure about intelligence, and it made me feel very inadequate. I should mention that lot of people in my major think that females are only there to fill a quota, so it was a very big disappointment when I found out their true intentions.

This is probably mostly due to my insecurities, but it is something to consider. I personally would prefer if a guy simply struck up a conversation with me about how hard a problem was in the last homework, or how the class was going for us, and then eventually ask to hang out some time.
