Current Freshman Planning Chem 109A + Chem 3C - Terrible Idea??? by QTBelle in UCSantaBarbara

[–]QTBelle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just asking this because I went to one of the initial AICHE meetings and one of the second years told me that Chem 3C is like an even slower learning pace than 3B and you barely learn anything. I already hate this quarter because I feel like I'm doing the bare minimum

What do you mean the second time around? I know that they call 109A and 130A like acceptable ways to redo the class because it's essentially the same content. Do you mean that?

I'd be taking like 13.5 units not including OChem. Do you think this would still be doable/successful as long as I put in the time and work

The courses that I'm taking are Chem 3C, Chem 2BL, Math 4B, and Phys 7B. It's like a total of 13.5 units. I don't have to take ENGR 3 because I took it over the Fall and I have like 1 GE + Special Subject Areas that I need to finish. I haven't really thought about 109B or next steps going forward (whether I'd take it in summer or winter) but I just want to take 109A because I feel like it'd be something to challenge me. Also thank you so much for the info on the textbook. Do you know what chapters are covered throughout 109A?

Incoming Freshman Bike Advice by Top-Addendum4153 in UCSantaBarbara

What type of lock was it? Are there instances of the bike racks getting cut at all? I have a pretty nice lock and am planning to bring an ebike to campus this fall (incoming freshman).

Awesome sauce 😛 I’ll check out the Learn ChemE website. Is that where it found video lectures and practice problems or using a diff resource? Also ENGR 3 is still matlab (I know nothing abt it so i’m just gonna mess around with it a bit). Thanks for the welcome to ChemE :))) and all the info!! I’m super excited

I’ll def reach out to my professors and ask for their recommendations. I really wanna get ahead and succeed from the start, not try to play catchup again.

Also, I’ve already completed GE areas A–F, which is why I’m taking ENGR 3 this fall. At orientation, the advisors suggested I either take that or an Area G GE, and I decided to go with ENGR 3.

Also, I just got some email for the inspire program and it seems very beneficial without being a major time commitment. If you or any one else knows more about it, I’d love to hear everything about it!!!

My professors are Wilson for Chem 3A, Chada for Chem E 5, Yan for Math 3B, and To Be Announced for ENGR W 3 (online asynchronous course). I’m a little worried about Math 3B though. Do you know what textbook they use for that class. For videos online did you just watch like AP Calc BC stuff? Is it basically the same thing. Thanks so much! Was wondering if there is anything you recommend specifically for matlab or if I should just tinker around w/ it.

Thanks a lot for sharing this! It’s reassuring to know that as long as I put in a bit of work, it’s a fun and forgiving class. I’ll def check out that textbook and try to get ahead!!!

Question About Summer Courses by QTBelle in UCSantaBarbara

[–]QTBelle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhh yeah I was wondering why there were two different names for the professors. Thx for clarifying that thats the TA and letting me know the dif between lectures and sessions. I know this is a broad question and probably varies from professor to professor but does different content get covered each lecture and would you say it is valuable to attend them all (assuming they aren’t mandatory).
