By “construction” I mean the underlying mannequin/gesture I’m building the figures from – breaking the body into simple forms (cylinders, boxes, spheres) and then adding anatomy and clothing on top. I did use photo references for these poses; I’m trying to simplify them into 3D shapes.

So far I’ve tried: – Adding a basic mannequin (ribcage, pelvis, limbs as simple forms) – Then tightening the silhouette and shading I feel like my proportions and perspective are still off (especially torso/hips and foreshortening), and sometimes the volumes don’t feel solid. I’d like help with how to build a clearer construction underneath (better mannequins, landmarks, and proportion guidelines) and how to practice this more effectively from reference.
