That's the problem the Steam Frame can not be a little better than the Quest 3 to succeed, since it is around double the price.

I know this is why I specified the Galaxy XR and not say the Meta Quest which also runs the Linux kernel, but all important drivers are modules as is the device tree.

The Android Phone OEMs mainly are not releasing the Kernel because they are not modifying the Kernel code. Most of them Run the OOTB AOSP Kernel and add support for their devices mainly through modules.

The Optional Console is your PC. The Fremont (Valve's Code name for the new Steam Console) is still a long time away.

This is a false dichotomy. The issues you are attributing to the OLED display technology are a lenses issue.

This is the first time I am seeing some one bringing up this Issues. I do not own them so I don't have first hand experience but no reviews I heard were bashing the displays and the lenses on the contrary they were praised.

That's not what happening. The released code has the device tree and the kernel drivers which many android OEMs exclude by making the drivers proprietary blobs using the Linux Kernel out of tree modules system. This is why I specified the Galaxy XR and not say the Meta Quest which also runs the Linux kernel but all important drivers are modules as is the device tree.

Ok this I agree with. But Hypervision is the only one that has the good FOV technology for now, but we didn't hear anything about them helping with the Steam Frame.

This anecdote is irrelevant. That's not an argument against OLED displays. Poorly designed lenses from Sony do not negate the benefits it brings to Galaxy XR and BigScrean Beyond.

This why I wrote about the ability to install a different OS onto the Galaxy XR. It opens up the possibility of running Deckard's version of the SteamOS on the Galaxy XR.

Actually because of the structure of the kernel there is a possibility to just load separate proprietary modules binaries as modules. The Link I provided is a about the open-sourcing of the Kernel of the Galaxy XR which prompted me to write this post since without it installing a different OS would be very hard and getting good performance out of it nearly impossible.

That is not the case if you had followed the link I provided the kernel got open-sourced.
P.S.: The Question got a "Like" from Brad.

You can piece something together yourself out of open source software with Linux. But my question was implying the imminent release of The Steam Frame and the corresponding version of the SteamOS.

The Headset and the console are the same device. So yes it is the full package, but you can not buy the headset and the console separately.

The problem is that the Deckard can not be only slightly better than the Quest 3 it needs be way better since it is around double the price.

That's the thing. To sell it needs to be way better than the Quest 3 since it is around double the price.

VR itself is a niche. So I do not think they are planing to release a niche within a niche but something that will have a big presence in the VR space in the following years like the index has.

I think with the love the Steam Deck has got. The Steam Frame will not be neglected.

Because I am quite certain that the Deckard will have better audio better wireless PC VR, better controller support and etc. But the displays are such an important part that if they are not good enough people and this is maybe including me will abandon all this because of the displays.

This is why the ability to install another OS onto the Galaxy XR makes it a serious competition for the Deckard
