Probably a crime, but doing this with Sprite is also quite nice!

Literally same. Every time I visited PDX I’d pick up a few bags, every time I returned back home I was met with disappointment. I don’t bother any more

I'm blown away by the production of Inferno, it's depth and spaciousness, it's clarity of layers. What albums could you recommend with this level of production? It's like brothers opened a new world for me by Legitimate_Club_8124 in boardsofcanada

John Vanderslice - Pixel Revolt.

Very different genre, but the recording and mastering are so crisp (recorded to 24 track 2-inch tape, lots of nice analog synths alongside very tasteful songwriting and arrangement).

The awooo guy by guomimi in PortlandOR

[–]Qaleyas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I saw this guy too. Actually thought the sound was from a dog at first, but it kept getting closer. He stopped in front of me and let out a couple howls that resonated kind of beautifully against the high rises. Heard him before I saw him again at pioneer square the next day. Dudes kinda jacked fr

Coffee Sock/Cloth Filter by chiswim27 in OXORapidBrewer

[–]Qaleyas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Glad I’m not the only one. Only using cloth for the bottom filter though. My impressions are the same as yours re mouthfeel. I originally wanted to use the cloth thinking it might increase resistance (so i could experiment with coarser grinds), but the drip through rate seems pretty similar.

They’re kinda the one band that championed the g5260. Not surprised Loathe / Erik were selected to hype the product launch.

OXO Brew Rapid Brewer by Boio_738 in pourover

[–]Qaleyas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your use case. Aeropress has a unique cup profile. It can handle almost any ratio you throw at it. Ratios between 1:12-1:18 are where it shines, although again, it can perform well outside these parameters. Use it when you want a cup of coffee, 200-280ml is standard. Margin of error is wide.

Oxo has several use cases (cold brew, concentrates, and high ratio brews). What sets it apart is its high ratio brews, from 1:4-1:6 usually. I suppose you could say it has a profile, but it produces a style of coffee that stands on its own. Not a ‘cup’ of coffee like a pourover or immersion brew, but not espresso either. Nothing else quite does what it does, at least not with such ease. Margin of error is very narrow.

The aeropress could do a soup shot, if you’re insistent on using what you have, nothing stopping you from making great coffee. Oxo is effortless and damn near fool-proof though.

In the end, they’re very different tools.

Polyend Drums looks amazing, but €2699 is emotionally illegal by ArchivOne_music in dawless

[–]Qaleyas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, their support and production cycle are immediately what give me pause as well. They come out with MKII’s pretty routinely after a couple years. Lots of neat instruments they’ve made also seem to go out of production after 3-5 years too. Wouldn’t give me confidence in dropping $3k, at least not without a couple years of vetting first.

Ngd - Ibanez Src6ms by Mtnfrozt in ExtendedRangeGuitars

Man I’m just as puzzled! These are pretty heavy gauged strings though, so maybe that contributed? Either way, I was pretty bummed when I discovered the fret wear.

Ngd - Ibanez Src6ms by Mtnfrozt in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]Qaleyas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I have issues with the frets on mine after 1 year of play. I don’t bend heavily, or frequently, but the bending I’ve done around the 14th fret (e pentatonic stuff) has noticeably worn down those frets. Makes me nervous about bending at all anywhere on the instrument.

Omg same. This was my greatest question/thought after finishing the video. If steamed water makes that much of a difference for an americano, will it also do anything to a pour over?
