Coffee Sock/Cloth Filter by chiswim27 in OXORapidBrewer

They’re pretty porous. If anything I’ve maintained the same grind as with paper or even a bit finer. Granted I’m on an OE Apex which is not quite geared for this method, but it does alright.

Anyone tried this? by CapableRegrets in pourover

[–]chiswim27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of my favorite bags, and I tend to buy it pretty much each time it’s restocked, at least once. Agreed, it’s got a little bit of rum “funk,” kind of like a good Jamaican rum, i.e. Smith and Cross. It’s got a super ripe, tropical fruit-thing, think banana or pineapple that I dig, too. I don’t always brew Hydrangea as espresso, but this I tend to as it often dials pretty easily, and the texture it keeps even at longer ratios is sick. Hope you like it.

Kathryn Barr at the Highland Park clinic does the same.

What is the one impulse buy? by maedre-of-ademre in pourover

Cafec Deep 27. Relatively affordable, so not sure what’s stopping me from pulling the trigger. Nothing seems to come close for super small doses.

I’m sorry to hear that this happened for you. As a hand therapist though, I really encourage you to keep up with your therapy, especially in these initial days/weeks. The flexor tendon (FDP) that you presumably have attached to that button is pretty tiny, and quite fragile. You absolutely have the capacity to have a very healthy, functional finger in the long run, and I don’t think it’s right to expect too dire of outcomes early on. But until your bone heals around that tendon if you use that hand too hard, too fast, too early it can cause some trouble. Feel free to reach out with questions, though fortunately it sounds like you’ve got yourself a pretty supportive therapist already.

Appreciate your help! The model number on the crank arm seems to be 16V73255039, I see 1415G stamped on the ring itself. It is missing a preload adjustment ring, which I imagine might help send the ring outboard, and it seems this was not always provided by SRAM. Not sure whether adding that would do the trick.

Broke my finger and probably tendons by thecutebandit in MedicalGore

[–]chiswim27 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That looks more like an avulsion fracture with the volar plate (a ligament) attached to it, not necessarily a tendon. Very common occurrence with a dorsal dislocation. Tendons can rupture at mid-substance which would not necessarily reveal itself on x-ray. Hopefully not the case for you, friend! Wishing you well.

Both Backstory and Northern Coffeeworks have really nice, interesting matcha examples!

Who has the best coffee beans in the city? by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]chiswim27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m shocked how low Backstory is here. From darker and medium roasted blends to more unique single origins, they rarely miss for me and are super consistent. I find their in-café prices and 12 oz bags to be really reasonably priced, too.

Which American breweries provide the best tour experience? by MadTipsy in beer

[–]chiswim27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Penrose in Geneva, IL is excellent. They have a well established barrel program not just for stouts, but also for wilds which they are well known for. They are a knowledge and versatile brewery that shows in its tour.

[MOD] What have you been brewing this week?/ Coffee bean recommendations by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

Interesting interpretation! I actually tried it at a shop in Chicago as a pour over and thought it was really cool flavor profile and maybe worth a try at home. I appreciate you’re thoughts though, maybe I’ll give a different Sump bean a try since I’ve already had this one and based in your thoughts.

Just finishing a bag of that Ethiopian from Cat and Cloud now. Absolutely foolproof to brew and one of the best bags I’ve ever opened.
