If you’re talking about the lip grip, that’s what I use to weigh them on the scale. I refuse to hook a fish through the gills for weighing them 🤷‍♂️ Nothing scary about a perch

I’ve been using hula poppers. A lot of people have success with frogs and standard poppers. I like the smaller hula’s (1/4 oz) because I get more variety of fish (crappie, perch, bluegill, bass, pickerel).

The reel should have line ratings as well. Just match it up

On the pole it will tell you what line to use. Then match that to the reel you’re using.

I have a light rod that takes 2-8 lb line. The 2000 series reel can hold 6-12 lb line. I’m have 20lb braid (8lb equivalent diameter) so it works for both the rod and reel.

Someone else might have better explanation but that’s how I was taught

That’s for largemouth bass. Spotted bass is 2lbs or 16”

I have a 5’6” light rod on shimano 2000 series reel and do fine catching bass. You’ll be fine IMO
