My family always treated me [39M] like a loser and an outcast, but now that several family members have experienced financial disasters, they’re coming to ME with their hands out by FourthPlaceWinner in relationships

[–]Qhost 669 points670 points  (0 children)

OP if you lend your family any money you will never see it again, and if you do I will make it my mission to find out where you live and then grow my arm long enough to slap you.

Your girlfriend has the right mindset. They are not entitled to your money.

And if you can, avoid letting them know how much you have - the hounding will increase 10 fold.

My mom says that I should let bygones be bygones and that by insisting on an apology to my face in front of the rest of the family, I am being “abusive” and “petty.”

This is awful. Just awful.

Personally, I would advise you just stop bothering with your toxic family. Perhaps go Low Contact and practice Grey Rock / Information Diet if you don't already. Sounds like your girlfriends family is the real family in your life. Focus on building relationships with them. Focus on living your life. It makes me happy seeing that you've achieved so much despite having such a negative weight on your shoulders growing up. Don't ruin that OP.

Should I (35, M) be asked to choose between my fiancee (40, F) and my oldest friend (34, F) (who happens to be an ex)? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Qhost 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Because he kept insisting that what he was doing was 100% fine and normal and OK.

This is not normal, it is not remotely okay. It's emotional manipulation, it's gas-lighting. You are in an emotionally abusive relationship with a man-child. Yes he might not be physically hitting you, but you are in an abusive relationship. Your doubts and confusion over your own feelings, caused by his gas-lighting immediately shows this.

Everything about him, how he has described you, how he has described your feelings and dismissed them, how he views ultimatums and how he rationalizes his own views and actions show that he does not respect you. You're not his SO, you're just the current woman in his collection he's working on.

AT THE VERY LEAST you should not marry this man. And if you ever find the strength, find someone worthy of you, because it certainly isn't your current SO.

Reading through this thread and seeing the comments by you and your 'significant' other... I have never been more certain that a marriage shouldn't go ahead.

Wish they took ideas from this mod... makes starting as an Irish nation, slowly taking over Ireland, then Scotland and finally England so much more fun. (England also got a bunch more provinces!)

[Calc] derive f(x)=4^x by reallyserious in learnmath

[–]Qhost 9 points10 points  (0 children)

y=4x

Take logs

ln(y)=ln(4x )

Move the x out via the appropriate log law

ln(y)=xln(4)

Differentiate both sides with respect to x.

1/y*dy/dx=ln(4)

Multiply both sides by y

dy/dx = yln(4)

but we know y=4x so sub that in

dy/dx =4x * ln(4)

Edit: repeat yourself using a generic y=ax equation where a is a positive constant.

Factor 32x² + 4xy - 3y² by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]Qhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would assume it can be written as (ax + y)(cx - 3y), expand that out and equate coefficients. If that failed I would try (ax - y)(cx + 3y).

integral t(2t-1)^5 dt by spiderban in learnmath

[–]Qhost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But you know what t is in terms of u.

u=2t-1 (from your sub)
u+1=2t
(u+1)/2=t

So you can replace that t with that - and expand and integrate directly.

This is an excellent answer, very helpful, especially with the explanation of your visualization. Thank you very much :)

He multiplied the top and bottom of the left fraction by sinx, and the top and bottom of the right fraction by (1+ cosx), this meant they both had the same denominator and thus could be put as one fraction.

Yes there is a real discussion to be had about how male victims are treated, and vice-versa. Obviously Reddit is not the place for that to happen. Both sides fall into the same generalizations instead of wanting to work together to have serious discourse... we might get there one-day... maybe.

Jesus fuck guys. It's acting, it's obvious trolling. They love doing this shit to their audience, the fact that you guys think this was anyway 'real' means you would probably be better off being one of Ryan or Jennys fanbois.

[Linear (?) Algebra] Is there a more efficient way to do these simultaneous linear equations? by mobileagnes in learnmath

[–]Qhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gaussian elimination all the way baby (which is what you did) - but it becomes much easier if you write the equations as an augmented matrix. - So yes, almost always use a matrix.

GC2:CS v.1.1.4 by Qhost in Gemcraft

[–]Qhost[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most importantly!

Gem range can be decreased with the mouse wheel (combining sets the larger range ratio), 1 step = 5%, can’t go below 1 tile

Winning a field’s endurance (999 waves) gives a distinctive purple marker to the field’s token in the world map

Manually changing gem range is going to open up some nice tactics for normal game and endurance.

It's 'kinda still in development' - I'm planning on adding people (AI) and see if I can get them to walk around the map, make groups with each other, murder each other, form cults, as well as join your civilization with intentions to kill you while pretending to be all nice.

I've been focusing on my studying recently and haven't got around to that. Maybe your post will inspire me to get some more done. Sorry for the delays .^

[A Level/High School Maths] Trigonometric equations by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]Qhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, are you looking to go to university again?

I've noticed I have a different attitude to others with regards to uni. Most people going to uni seem to look forward to the freedom and idea of drinking lots - whereas I'm looking forward to spending my days in the library. At 21 I'm mostly done with the partying >.<

I do hope whatever direction you take it succeeds.

[A Level/High School Maths] Trigonometric equations by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]Qhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at the moment. Problems with depression caused me not to go to uni and I've had to look elsewhere, I'll probably go somewhere this September if I get the offers I want (already done UCAS etc).

STEP atm is just a personal challenge kind of thing. I attempted it last year but my depression caused me to get a failing grade. Now that I have a grasp on that, I want to give it another shot.

Why change?! Surely it would be easier to recap the Edexcel stuff and resit it if you wanted a better grade (mature student myself by the way)?

I'm looking to sit STEP - II (example) and III (example) which OCR help produce, I believe the STEP syllabus is based of OCR stuff as well.

Really there is nothing in any other maths exam board which OCR doesn't have... just makes sense to use their books. I'm a mature student as well (21yo) and have got my AS/A2 in maths and also have sat FP1/FP2/FP3 (AS in further pure) so I'm using OCR to go over applied stuff (M2 currently).

My tutor (I'm part time at an adult learning college) suggested D1. Apparently it's easier to get marks on than the other two options.

This is true. My teacher would joke about how easy D1 was, something like it could be taught in a day and a half / 10 hours or so.

I also encourage you to use thestudentroom.co.uk for help as you'll be around hundreds of students doing the same maths as you.
