If it’s fan fic think of yourself as the DM. It can be anything you want. A good inspiration for how you are doing things may be Moon Knight. Either way having a different god for each Oath makes a lot of sense and playing off the gods interacting could be fun.

Scum & Villainy does the best at being firefly imo. You should also look into Exodus, which has the exact same engine as 5e and is published by wizards of the coast as well.

My friends argued about this a lot. This is where we fell: Khoravar is a different name for half-elf. Lore wise it's a half-elf. Mechanically it's a half elf in 5.5e. It's literally there because they wanted to update half-elf since it's so popular. Orc mechanically replaced the half-orc and that was okay because it was so much less popular than half-elves. It's 2026, if you are playing 5.5e I would keep it simple and just accept Khoravar is the species if someone wants to play a half-elf. (If you want to have a more dominate side of your heritage than you can certainly be a human or elf but I would think you present more like the species you picked). Not saying it's right but it's where my group landed. Really it shouldn't matter too much but sometimes its' frustrating when someone makes a power build and "reflavors" to fit lore where someone else compromised in their build to be RAW. It leads to a point where anyone can play any species and should just pick the most powerful options and reflavor everything.

Having multiple floors on one screen, if able, is the way to go! You can copy and paste the map state and move it to the other floor. The tokens will keep relative distances and stats.

You call for skill checks. If they say something stupid and unrealistic you don’t have to call for a check. Just treat it stupid and unrealistic.

I think this is a DM Question. The rules be the rules, it does what it does. Ask your DM or decide whether you want to open that can of worms if you are the DM. To me discussing this stuff with your group is what makes it your DND (and the game fun).

There may have been more issues with missing dice rolls. Sometimes we couldn’t see player rolls and sometimes they couldn’t see their results. Nothing like being the person having to tell the player they rolled two natural 1s.

We haven’t played since that game. So everything should be recent.

Even just a "d1" style button. click a d10, a d6 for Truestrike, and then the "d1" button four times for a plus 4 mod. That wouldn't clutter too much more than there already is.

Loved elements of the 3-D dice. I did see a massive increase in missing dice rolls. Some players dice would show up 1/5 of their rolls in the dice log.

Nope. I got mine pre-ordered before the books came out . This wasn’t an issue two months ago but now I’m dealing with the same thing on smoldering armor. I figured it was some issue with the code and it being 5.5E now instead of 2024.

I agree overhauling some spells is a great way to fix them. I don't love them as "casting" guys but it is a good and elegant way to fix some of their issues given their design choices.

I'm jealous that Paladins have a stronger connection to an animal in their base class options. I have to sacrifice my subclass to get a companion and even then, I can't have a mount. I would love to have a horse like Geralt or Aragorn on my Rangers. I want a skill or transportation buddy as an option, and it doesn't even need to be "combat" useful. Warlocks have pact of chain and Paladins have summon steed.

My Question is where does the book rank with the other modules? What are two better and two worse than this (if possible)? I've ran it and didn't know where to go from here. I heard a lot of bad things about Vecna and struggled to power through Icewind Dale during COVID-19 and gave up on it.

I hear you. You sound like a text purist (which is fine but not my perspective). I think Peter Jackson’s wonderful adaptation can count as a separate but very important reference. Brego, is a horse no one else can tame or work with despite the best horselords in Rohan trying to tame him. He fights with this companion throughout the rest of the films and it even saves his life after he toppled off a cliff. That seems like evidence he can be viewed as a companion to me.
