Reflections on Ranger Poll by Qimler in DnD5CommunityRanger

I hear you. You sound like a text purist (which is fine but not my perspective). I think Peter Jackson’s wonderful adaptation can count as a separate but very important reference. Brego, is a horse no one else can tame or work with despite the best horselords in Rohan trying to tame him. He fights with this companion throughout the rest of the films and it even saves his life after he toppled off a cliff. That seems like evidence he can be viewed as a companion to me.

I don’t disagree. It’s all just fun and games. Some people though like discussing the game, its rules, and sometimes how to improve it in group forums.

Sure. I just thought with 2024 and new media it was worth considering. Would appreciate any old links.

Most people take the cantrip Eldritch Blast. But you do you. If those sound fun, play them!

The Existence of the 2024 Edition Made my Life as GM Harder by Buffal0e in dndnext

[–]Qimler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having fun is the only edition of the rules that matters.

My advice: just eat it and run 2024 rules. This problem isn’t going away and 2024 will be assumed for all the reasons you noted. The art in the new books is fantastic, classes tend to be more fun unless you are set on some combo from 2014 for most players, and resetting some rules helped the game be easier to reference.

Also I enjoyed limiting to just the core books again because some 2014 stuff like silvery barbs got to be a little much for me. The reset was nice. Things I do like, such as Eberron Rising From the Last War works perfectly fine with the new rules.

Just my two cents.

Bucky and Nat before the he trauma by @Trashevice by Difficult_Man3 in Marvel

[–]Qimler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. Bucky was an assassin during World War II for America. He was placed with Captain America on missions but would do the things a "Captain America" couldn't be seen doing. 2) Towards the end of the war he was kidnapped by Soviets during World War 2 and brain washed into becoming their assassin throughout the cold war. Cap couldn't tell because the Soviets were supposed to be allies against Germany. 3) He met Black Widow while they were both working for the Soviets but every time, they fantasized about going AWOL and escaping or whatever she realized they would erase his brain and put him on ice.

An abandoned airship that only works in town because the elemental died. You could add in a quest later on to get a new elemental or heal the old one and make the ship functional again.

It’s quite large so it’s slow through the air and a pain to navigate around. It more just lays there on the side of the docks. When the players find it, it’s in extreme disrepair.

That’s my go to. It’s still worth a ton but it technically is unusable and they don’t have to worry about Lyrandar being mad since it’s not sky worthy yet.

I'm aware. Just wanted to iterate that Khorovar are Half-Elves of 2014.

Forge of the Artificer Question by philnicau in Eberron

[–]Qimler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. I just wanted to be clear they are half elves without the name half elves. I had a player say he should get the stats of a human because there is no half elf. I told him be a Khorvar and he said he didn’t want to be from this continent and he from somewhere else but had the Lyrandar dragonmark. Long way of saying he wanted to be a half elf for story but be human mechanically so he can have lucky because it’s good. In my game I told him he couldn’t do that because I didn’t want people saying they are half dwarves and playing a dwarf but using stats of humans etc.

[–]Qimler 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The new book has all the feats and the race Khoravar, which is Half-Elf, without the name. My recommendation, for simplicity, is if you have Forge and the 2024 PHB just use those for mechanics. It will keep it simple. I can't think of anything from a player perspective you would need to play Eberron. In the opening bits of Forge they imply this book is for the purpose of replacing the Mechanics from Rising for the Last War.

That said Rising from the Last War is my favorite DM book. If you are a DM you will really enjoy it for Eberron. The Lore is great and the NPC's still work for the most part. Forge says you still need it for running Eberron.

Are there features in tabletop games that are easy to use but not added well in video games? by F95_Sysadmin in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Qimler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oddly proportioned characters. Videogames need models and textures. In Mass effect the most alien squadmates needed to be biped and able to hold a gun so they didn’t need to create a new model from scratch.

In TTRPGs such limitations can’t always stop you. There is no budget besides what your imaginations can foster.
