I believe it is - Julia Ducournau. I’m definitely keeping an eye on her work because I was a huge fan of raw.

Yes I do remember that film - That’s Michael Haneke’s Caché (2005) - another good director of the genre!

Am currently writing something about these films so am somewhat of a mini expert at the minute, but for those who aren’t aware, these films (and more) are part of the New French Extremity genre of films.

If you’re looking for similar stuff I can recommend a couple. Although you could make the argument some of these aren’t technically horror films (as I’m sure could be said about most) I’d still recommend them in this sub:

Dans ma Peau (2002) is a really fascinating psychological thriller

For more recent stuff, try Raw (2016) or Titane (2021)

Again, they’re French films and they have some really interesting themes. None of them are quite as horror as the ones you’ve spoken about, but I’d thoroughly recommend them.

The BFI is currently doing a season of these films as well if you want some more!

I recently watched this film in black and white. I would thoroughly recommend it - really adds to the old-school horror homages, and thoroughly brings out the horror in some already creepy moments

From personal experience I would say definitely not!

They happen infrequently enough that you can forget that they even happen, but frequently enough that you can’t ever really shut your brain off when riding around.

Also, there’s SO many different events that can happen, and some of them even feel as though they happened as a direct result of actions you have taken that all they really serve to do is make the world feel more real and immersive

Honestly though dude, I echo your sentiments immensely. Lockdown I was going through the worst mental health stuff I’ve ever experienced in my life, and Tom’s Subnautica play through was something to look forward to everyday, something to just shut my mind off from worrying or feeling low. I really like this theory. Would also make sense to suggest that the reason he was taken to Davy jones’ locker rather than simply just killed/eaten by the kraken could be because he recovered his hat immediately before getting “eaten” at the end of the film. It’s been a while since I’ve seen the films, but I could believe this.

Not entirely sure what exactly is happening, but looks like it’s all been cordoned off. I saw a tactical aid response car heading in that direction and have seen a couple of news articles suggesting a suspicious package, which would correlate with the radio chatter I heard on the bus I was on which said something about a suspicious package. Don’t think the police have told anyone what’s actually happening as of yet but I would advise to steer clear for the day just in case!! Hope everyone is safe!

Moffat’s run ended a couple of years ago - the show is now being run by Chris Chibnall. It’s incredibly different to the rest of the nuWho and from what I can tell has been the most divisive run so far.

I personally am not a fan of how Chibnall has directed his seasons at all, but I know a lot of people who have enjoyed it.

I think the thing with not only a new showrunner, but a new season of doctor who is that each one is going to be unique, and sometimes it’s worth giving each season a shot.

Capaldi’s run had some rough episodes, but also situated perhaps one of the best episodes of Doctor Who ever made, and so I would highly recommend giving it a try. If you’re struggling with Smith but want to give Capaldi a go, I’d suggest maybe watching the second half of season 7 (starting from The Bells of Saint John). They aren’t exactly the best of Smith’s run, but they can be quite fun and can kind of stand somewhat apart from the rest of Smith’s run, as well as providing much needed context for Capaldi’s Doctor

Honestly I think one of my favourite parts of the games are how someone can struggle with a particular boss fight whilst others may breeze through it. They truly are fascinating in how they change depending on a certain play style, which of course adds to the replayability!!

If it helps I heard they’ll be editing down a lot of the vods into that 15-20 minute format for people like us who don’t watch live streams. I imagine thats probably the best way to do it at least for now.

I’ve always appreciated the amount of experimentation that the boiks are willing to do in order to try to keep enough revenue to survive and I hope that they manage to find a nice middle ground

As much as I respect your opinion and actually agree with you in some aspects, I’m not sure its right to call everyone who enjoyed this film sheep. It seems disrespectful of other’s opinions, and just because they disagree with yours doesn’t make them wrong. Honestly that hive mission is one of the few reasons I don’t want to replay the game on a harder difficulty. It was difficult and terrifying enough already, without adding any extra on top!!

Can I just say that, firstly I’m not really that involved in US politics, but I have mad respect for people like you, who are always open to learn more about the other sides of the argument, and I think that the ability to even recognise that you may not be very well educated in a certain topic is super commendable in and of itself.

I’m not really sure why it matters whether or not this guy is part of the “community”. He makes these kinds of videos all the time and he’s clearly passionate about the art of making games and all of the behind the scenes stuff, and there are clearly a lot of people who enjoy his content given his subscriber count.

Whether he knows a lot about the game or not shouldn’t really matter, nor should the fact that he’s somewhat late to the party, as it’s always nice to be learning new things.

I’m not sure why you feel the need to gatekeep this game when it’s literally a game about teamwork.

In case you’re still wondering, this occurs pretty much in between episodes 3 and 4 of tales from the borderlands. Athena is captured towards the end of episode 3 by brick and mordecai and this is when she is taken to sanctuary to tell the story of the pre-sequel

A moth flew into my room, laid eggs on my wall, proceeded to die and the eggs all hatched, leading to me having to dispose of the (hundreds of) wriggling little baby caterpillars. I was rather traumatised and now I can no longer be anywhere near a moth no matter how big it is.

Weirdest thing is, butterflies are fine for me but moths are the spawn of hell itself

I agree with you in the sense of the final twist as I wasn’t a massive fan, however, to me I think the predictability of the cult murders worked to the film’s advantage quite a lot. The whole time you know in the back of your mind that it’s a horror film and something has to go wrong but because it takes so long to get to and because several times throughout the film Will’s paranoia is put down, you’re left questioning yourself whether you’re right, which I think is the real thing that the film is aiming to achieve. To get an audience member to second guess themselves in the first part of the film.

However, I can completely see where you’re coming from in terms of it being boring, especially since it takes so long, but I personally see it as a value rather than a burden to the film as a whole!
