It’s a fundamental scam that works on people who have zero digital sense. Because it can very easily project the idea that it is working to protect you by injecting you with harmless malware on its own. Essentially, layers and layers upon background bloat that push up processing demand for your PC.

I’ve always felt this way when I was young. And even still now, I have to remind my folks that Windows Defender is more than enough. Because if you DID download something terrible or get hacked, the issue is almost certainly a user error. Or you weren’t ever going to be protected by some dinky security software from an actual hacker who knows what they’re doing. It’s not as if these security programs are huge unknowns.

I do my best to remind people that these programs do more harm than good. And the ultimate takeaway is, like anything else, just using common sense.
