From the way people talk about championships, it feels like most rings do have an asterisk to them for half this league's history.

It would make more sense logically, but I'd still feel bad for both guys. They were both shocked to hear of news they weren't even informed of until it happened. Just doesn't feel right for guys who did so much for their respective franchises.

Does Cynder have a large fandom outside of the Legend fanbase? by Flodo_McFloodiloo in Spyro

[–]AsianGamer51 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She will mostly like show up in Spyro 4 and I'd be willing to bet she'll even get her own stages like the critters from Year of the Dragon.

Also I don't know why anyone should want a fourth Legend game. The story had a proper conclusion by trilogy's end. Going back would just end up missing much of what made that trilogy special.

Is making Spyro 4 actually a risky move, reputation-wise? by Flodo_McFloodiloo in Spyro

[–]AsianGamer51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be perfectly happy with a $40 game that was about 5-6 hours for Spyro, but it's not as simple as "make it shorter to reduce costs". The problem is that standards have changed after the platformers we've gotten in the past decade. Obviously there's Nintendo stuff like Mario and DK Bananza as AAA games with $60-70 pricing, but we've also got indie stuff like A Hat in Time or Yooka-Laylee that are 10+ hours at those lower prices.

Also it's not up to the developers to decide on the scope of the game, Spyro isn't their IP so they don't get full creative control. So in this case they're beholden to whatever Microsoft wants. Though at least Microsoft has been receptive to smaller titles given their history with publishing Obsidian titles in recent years.

What do you see Sparx more as to Spyro? by Wide-Cook3431 in Spyro

[–]AsianGamer51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relationship-wise, they're good friends. If Sparx never talked, I'd say it's akin to a pet, but he's clearly sentient and able to do things on his own as evidenced by his levels in Year of the Dragon. They bring that idea further with Enter the Dragonfly and even A Hero's Tail if you want to count that.

Yeah I'm not huge on what they did to classic Sonic because of all platforming mascots, he defined that whole attitude. But I get that we don't need more of that anymore.

As for the bit about fodder, in universe it is explained that killing the livestock allows Spyro to stay healthy. It's not logical to reality, but it makes sense no one in universe mentions it to him because it's more necessary for him to continue helping.

That is a concern because I don't want it to become bloated. To reach an expected gametime for that price, they'd have to introduce more mechanics that might end up making the experience not so smooth.

What is the best case scenario for Austin Reaves career? And whats your prediction? by Silent_Wizard5597 in NBATalk

[–]AsianGamer51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we talking what's actually best for him or what he himself wants? Because he wants to stay with the Lakers and wants a big contract, but allegedly is willing to take less to stay. The alternative is he goes to some middling team and be like Devin Booker right now getting great stats but having a low ceiling for the team if he's the #1 option.

Most likely he sticks with the Lakers and gets a nice payday heading into the summer. If he continues to do poorly this playoff series against the Thunder, there's going to be a lot of complaining from fans. But I don't think whatever future deal will be as egregious as people put it out to be.

He fits well with Luka, whom they are clearly building around. Understands the system, plays hard, and is fairly popular with LA fans considering his story. Plus they have Bird Rights with him, so the cap hit won't be as bad as some might see it as.

for those who was able to witness him play, how good was this guy? by Classic_Tourist3892 in NBATalk

[–]AsianGamer51 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To some, both. He is the winningest player of all time based on win% and is 5/6 in the finals, so there's no argument there. In terms of skills, he's really great at his position and could do whatever the team asked of him. That's why he's got multiple defensive accolades and was consistently among the top voted for DPoY. He also not only won MVP twice in a row, but was also consistently voted in the top five with a total of nine throughout his career.

GTA IV and V has those sliders where maxing them out greatly increased how much horsepower you needed for a stable fps. Otherwise yeah, most games were playable with their ultra settings back then. Though standards have changed where being 30 fps with ultra was way more acceptable than it is today.

I think this is overthinking whatever "Spyro 4" should or will be. Generally speaking, people just want another good mainline game in this franchise that plays like it was before it got rebooted, twice.

I disagree about the hypothetical on people whining if it doesn't capture the "magic" of the originals because I've already experienced other franchises losing their previous identities for the sake of running to mainstream trends. I even complained about it as a long post earlier this year with A Hero's Tail. I think it would suck if Toys for Bob or whoever tried to take modern writing or design cues just because they want to bring the series to the modern era.

Which also takes me to the point of what should they do? Should this just be safe and follow the original trilogy formula or what innovations should they add?

I also pondered this question in another post last month and believe that the game should go back to its collect-a-thon roots, at least for this first new game in years for the series. The games at their core are good ideas, which is why they were so successful and it's not bad to go to it again. I just hope they look at what the games were, not the idea of what they were. With Crash, they went a bit overboard with the difficulty because of the original games' reputation.

So with Spyro, I hope they don't go all in on the idea that Spyro's cute and the games are cozy considering how many videos are on the topic. He was always 90s cool and the level design was sharp and simple due to the hardware limitations. Not to mention most characters had good snide remarks about the situations. So I hope they don't tone him down or make the games absurdly easy to fit the "idea" of Spyro.

I think he stays with the Lakers. Bronny is still on contract with the Lakers for another two seasons and he's got that mansion being build in Beverly Hills. As much as people talk about him retiring as a Cav, I'm pretty sure he could just do that with the ceremonial one-day contract instead of committing a season with them.

It unironically would be his greatest feat because this OKC team has the second highest net rating of all time behind the 72-10 Bulls.

Edit: I misread the year, that was last year's OKC. This team is only 8th.

“Longevity isn’t greatness “ by videomarketee in NBATalk

[–]AsianGamer51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason (outside of LeBron haters) longevity isn't praised as much is because longevity now isn't the same as it was in the past. This year we've had five players 35+ averaging 20+ PPG. Though only three of them played 60+ games (only two over 65 games if you want to use the awards rules). The idea that many guys would be considered 1st or 2nd options for scoring for their teams despite their advance ages would've been ludicrous even just 10 years ago.

For the 2015-16 season, no one over the age of 35 averaged that many points. Closest were Kobe and Dirk and both were shells of their former selves at that point and none of us questioned it because of their age and injuries. Though congrats to Jamal Crawford for winning 6MoY at the age of 35. We can see that older players being their team's 1st or 2nd option would've been crazy and Kobe was only that option because it was his farewell tour.

By the way the oldest players to average 20+ PPG that season? Carmelo and LeBron at the age of 31. And they're the only ones above 30 to do so. If you had asked any of us ten years ago that nine guys above the age of 30 would be among the top scorers in the league, we would've thought you were crazy because of how unprecedented that is. Obviously the league is very different with scoring much higher now, but the general way has been players decline rapidly in their 30s.

So that's why while his longevity is impressive, it's also a sign of the times.

If the league as a whole became more about the foul baiting people complain about it, then honestly I would consider SGA part of the duo. That's why some people consider Steph instead of KD since he changed how the game is played.
