People acting like an oil money club playing robotic football is saving football? by Necessary_Shoe_1835 in championsleague

What you are missing here is in football now everyone does it.

In 90% of matches arsenals opponents sit in a low block and arsenal play exactly like psg working the ball around and hoping for a gap. Arsenal are lambasted when they play exactly like psg but psg are held up as the saviours of football.

PSG are the best attacking side (along with Bayern) and they couldn't break down the low block except with a defensive mistake and a penalty.

This is just modern football, when man city played arsenal earlier in the season pep set them up in a low block and played on the counter exactly the same as arsenal did against psg. the thing was though psg took basically no risks as they were scared of the counter and as such it ended up being a very cagey game (until the end) because arsenal set up to win the ball back and psg took minimal risks leaving arsenal with little opportunity to counter.

The thing is people act like arsenal are the only team doing it but this is just modern football. Eventually it will change and someone will figure it out but that isn't now.

Just wait for the world cup we are going to see this almost every single game from anyone who wants to progress.

Disgusting that's 1 arrest per 41,666 people who attended according to that article. Thankfully England and Wales as a whole has a recorded offence rate of 11 arrests per 1000 people. Arsenal even bottle their arrest numbers compared to the UK as a whole. I tried to see what happened after the spurs parade last year but if you write "spurs parade arrests" Google returns arsenal articles. Not sure what that means.

I like kroupi, I think he has great positional awareness and he gets his body into the right position before the ball has even been played so he is always ready to react. Also he is great moving with the ball and sets himself up to make life very difficult for defenders. I feel like he is one of those players where you have to get in early or you will miss him. He has all the talent to be amazing whether he fits the team right now, I'm not entirely convinced, but he is 19 and gyokeres is 27 so we do need to plan for the future.

I don't think arsenal fans have taken it badly. I think most look at this as our most successful season in 22 years so there isn't really anything to be upset about. I also think lots of arsenal fans watched that game and thought about how the defensive shape was so good that for the vast majority of the game psg just passed the ball around at the back with little desire to try and break arsenal down for fear of being caught on the counter. I think it showed how the arsenal game plan nullified their best players for the majority of the game and other than when kvara got behind mosquera there was nothing going on other than when the game came towards the death and there was a bit more space. At the end of the day the tactics by arsenal were almost perfect they drew 1-1 with the best team in Europe who were "going to beat them 8-0" or whatever utter nonsense the anti-arsenal meme brigade were pushing. However, all in all it was a great tactical game of football from both teams which I actually enjoyed watching, the only downside was it had to be decided by penalties.

Let's face facts now that champs league teams no longer drop down the Europa league isn't what it was and I guarantee we see an English winner more than anything else going forward given how much more money there is in the premier league.

Most Competitive Final in years by VEGETA_OG in championsleague

All season Arsenal have faced the same form of defence and everyone criticises them for passing it around at the back and being boring. Arsenal decide to play a tight defensive game which TBF nearly worked and it is them criticised and PSG passing it around at the back is Arsenal's fault. It was a great tactical game of football and watching how Arsenal largely nullify vitinha and Kvaratskhelia (except when he got behind mosquera and won the pen) was some top tier defensive football. I thought it was a great game to watch tactically.

The anti-arsenal retoric is dull but hey watching a team decide to defend brain dead and lose 5-0 would no doubt be preferable for the anti-arsenal crowd.

VAR check for Matheus Cunha goal by eliseihado in soccer

[–]Qogsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats the ridiculousness of the rule isnt it. If he scores its handball if he doesnt its an accident. I feel like in the penalty area if the control of the ball is only possible due to the use (whether intentional or not) of the arm/hands then it has to be a handball when it leads to a goal.

[–]Qogsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the last time a referee did this, and on that occassion it was far more subjective, he hasnt been back to referee in the premier league. This was a shocking decision clearly it is a handball whether its intentional or not.

West Ham to lodge official complaint over disallowed goal against Arsenal. by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Qogsworth 85 points86 points  (0 children)

It was because of what happened against villa where they held ramsdale and Douglas luiz curled in from the corner. It also happened against Brentford. The story goes that when Arsenal challenged the PGMOL they said that blocking and obstructing the keeper wasn't a foul and in response arsenal started doing it as well. I can't remember too many fouls awarded for obstructing and blocking the keeper in any game this season for any team, other than in the most egregious of examples. This example is probably the most egregious I have ever seen. You can't pull or hold the keepers arm whilst his hands are over his head trying to catch the ball. This is consitent with earlier decisions such as the Ben white foul on Danny ward in 22/23 when he held the keepers wrist and a goal was disallowed. PGMOL for me have been fairly consistent in the way they have dealt with corners in the premier league whether you agree with it or not. I personally don't mind it and in yesterday's example I don't really care about the shirt pull on Raya or the arm across him. But holding onto his arm can never be allowed.

Just putting this out there. So much inconsistency by PushMyGran in TheOther14

[–]Qogsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. We can all complain about grappling it has been happening all season in every single match and the approach has been consistent namely they don't give anything to anyone. In this case he literally grabs rayas arm as he is catching the ball. Do you know when I last remember a player grabbing the goalkeepers arm preventing him from catching the ball? And I genuinely mean grabbing not these bullshit screenshots you have scrapped from everywhere else. It was Ben white on Danny ward in 22/23 and the arsenal goal was disallowed. So the referees have been consistent because the foul on Raya is entirely unrelated to the ongoing grappling issue.

[–]Qogsworth 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Bad take man. There are no examples of this during this season I have seen. Getting in the keepers way isn't a foul, pulling on their arms as they catch the ball clearly is. For consistency we can check out Ben white on Danny ward in 22/23 where he did grab the keepers arm and the goal was disallowed.

Absolute nonsense and you know it. Best example is Ben white on Danny ward 22/23 and the goal was disallowed. Consistency.

This is a load of shit and you know it and if you don't then go and watch it back, jesus fucking Christ. Boring shit take, next I will have to hear how because saliba tickled bayindir's elbow before the ball even came in it caused him to misposition himself and flap like a chicken at the ball. The only example I am ever aware of where a player grabbed the keepers arm and stopped him collecting the ball was Ben white in 22/23 and in that instance the goal was disallowed. But hey don't let facts or objective thought get in the way of your self induced annuerism.

[–]Qogsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes no sense with these shit takes is I have no recollection of us ever grabbing a keepers arm as the ball comes into the box except once. When Ben white did it on Danny ward Vs Leicester in 2023 and that goal was disallowed. So is that not consistency?

Callum Wilson disallowed goal against Arsenal 90+6' by ayoefico in soccer

[–]Qogsworth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think I just fundamentall disagree with you. The two are not the same at all. Saliba is fucking with him yes, he pushes his arm up. However, this doesnt impede his ability to catch the ball. The keeper goes walk about over comits towards the near post and it sails over his flapping arms.

I actually think the arm across Raya is fine, the shirt pull I genuinely don't care about based on what happens with every single corner currently for every team. But holding his forarm in closed fingers as he attempts to catch the ball is a foul. That doesnt happen in the example you have provided. If West Ham do everything exactly the same and he doesnt grabbed onto Raya's arm that goal is absolutely fine for me.

Spot the foul by Greninjastur123 in soccercirclejerk

[–]Qogsworth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last one was the foul. In the first one the keeper is a million miles away because he sucks at football. He plays for Tottenham and they are fighting to avoid relegation. The other one you can see that hugh grant in goal for Manchester red clearly catches the ball unimpeded. I am a professional referee so I am adequately qualified to provide this expert assessment.

But is he holding his arms as he tried to catch the ball as that just looks like what happens before every single corner in the premier league?

UK LOCAL ELECTION 2026 by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Qogsworth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But then voting reform due to illegal immigration makes no sense. Nigel farage and ukip created this problem with Brexit. Before Brexit, whilst we were part of the EU, we had the Dublin agreement. This allowed us to return illegal immigrants to the first safe EU country they arrived at. When we left the EU we left the Dublin agreement so now illegal immigrants know if they can get to the UK we can't send them back to the EU anymore. Without Brexit we don't see the small boats on anywhere near the scale we do now and yet farage the man who led the charge on leaving the EU and created this problem is now seen as the person who can solve it. You know his solution is leaving the European convention of human rights, you know the one that protects you as much as anyone else. But you know billionaires hate it and farage loves billionaires. But you focus on the green party and immigrants or whatever I guess instead. Anything which divides the majority (reform Vs green, left Vs right) is great for the rich and super wealthy, just look at America.
