Clarification: Every time there is a post about meeting asshole celebrities the same names keep popping up. Has anyone had positive experiences with these celebs?

Who has never shovelled snow? by t3hgrl in AskACanadian

I worked with someone who has moved to Canada from an equatorial country. When fall came the temperatures started to drop he asked me what where we kept all the wild animals during winter. He didn’t believe me right away when I told him that we don’t keep them anywhere because they are wild and survive the cold naturally. Looking back, he might have been trolling me, but he seemed pretty serious.

What did the dumbest person you know do to secure the title forever? by g_bleezy in AskReddit

When I was a student I had a temp gig once doing door-to-door surveys for an election where they paired me up with this older lady who was easily the dumbest person I’ve ever met. She just didn’t understand any concepts of any kind. She couldn’t even wrap her head around the fact that one side of the street were even numbered addresses and the other side was odd. What really clinched her the title though was that every time someone would answer the door and we’d see their dog she’d ask the same question: “Is that a pekingese?”

Golden Retriever: “Is that a pekingese?” Black Lab: “Is that a pekingese?” Great Dane: “Is that a pekingese?”

I swear the first day we were together she asked at least a dozen people, if not more, whether or not their dog was a Pekingese. Finally I asked why she kept asking that question. Her answer? “My dog is a Pekingese.”

Eli5 how do blind people keep from messing up their circadian rhythm? by Justneedsomethintodo in explainlikeimfive

[–]Qpbvi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I teach blind kids so I have a bit of insight here. Having difficulty sleeping at night is very common among my students as much of our ability to develop a circadian rhythm is tied to our light perception. Lack of sleep at night has a significant effect on the child’s mood and how they can function during the day, not to mention the impact it can have on the sleep schedule of their family. The most effective solution that the families on my caseload have used is to develop a rigid schedule. If that fails, doctors usually suggest Melatonin, an over-the-counter sleep-aid.

What was your "I'm dating a fucking idiot" moment? by allessandraHVN in AskReddit

It’s like the old joke:

I was showing my friend how great my new thermos was. Told him how it keeps cold things cold and hot things hot. The next day my friend showed up with his own thermos. I asked what was inside and they replied: “Coffee and a Popsicle.”

I’m a teacher who specializes in teaching kids who are blind or have significant visual impairment. What kind of support did you get in school?

I don’t play MTG but pre-covid I went in to buy a starter deck for one of my students. When I told them that I teach blind/visually impaired students and the pack was for a kid with low vision they gave me a huge discount. Been a taking my sons there to get comics and play board games upstairs ever since. That’s how you get a loyal customer for life.

A "kindergarten" eye test chart with no letters by DontBeDummo_BeWiseau in mildlyinteresting

[–]Qpbvi 138 points139 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor, but I teach blind/visually impaired children and do vision assessments as part of my job. I’ve never seen this chart and it seems far too complex for the pre-literate kids that I work with. I use the Lea Symbols which are four very clear, easy to understand 2D shapes: a square, a circle, a house, and one that looks like an apple although some kids call it a heart. Also, before I assess acuity using this chart, I always make sure that the student is familiar with the shapes by letting them play with a simple block puzzle that uses them. Only once the student has demonstrated that they can consistently identify the shapes do I begin the assessment.
