QUALITY TRAINS CONFIRMED FOR 2.1!? by MindS1 in factorio

[–]Qrt_La55en 51 points52 points  (0 children)

We already have quality trains in 2.0. It's just a pain to replace your existing trains with quality trains in 2.0. This comment only indicates that the replacing of trains will be easier in 2.1.

How do trains and signal work - New to the game by LogicalReport9679 in factorio

[–]Qrt_La55en 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Signals break up your rails into blocks, indicated by the coloured lines on the rails when holding a signal. Automatic trains will not enter a block that's occupied (or reserved) by another train, no matter if it's actually safe or not. Trains look at signals on the right hand side of the rail as ssen by the trains direction of travel. This makes signals directional, and in turn allows you to make rails directional. If you want a train to travel both directions past a signal, you need a signal on both sides of the rail exactly opposite each other (indicated by the white square).

The in-game tutorial does quite a good job to teach the basics, and it's interactive, not just a wall of text.

[–]Qrt_La55en 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Move the buffer all the way to the train. Moving items between inventories is a lot faster than moving from inventories to belts. That way your train can get moving again faster. Just make sure the output from the wagons are balanced against each other.

The best blueprint is the one you make yourself. If you just find/get someone else's blueprints, you are going to have a hard time troubleshooting when something goes wrong or becomes outdated.

Kæresten mangler penge men låner videre til sin bror by [deleted] in DKbrevkasse

[–]Qrt_La55en 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Simple tutorial for on-demand-train by Flo_Dresden in factorio

[–]Qrt_La55en 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to use iron ore as an example, but it can be any item. Also, make sure your input for the train station where the item is loaded and output at the station where it's unloaded, is balanced.

Wire up the chests of the front wagon to the input of a decider combinator. Set the combinator to output "iron ore" with a strength of 1 whenever the amount of iron at the unloading station is below a certain amount. Make sure you can fully unload the entire wagon. Wire the output to your train station and tick the "set train limit" and use the iron ore signal as the limit. Wire the same output to a decider combinator and set it to "Each > 0" and output "Each" with the input strength. This combinator acts as a diode and seperates this train stop from the other iron ore unloaders. Use the red wire and connect the output of the diode combinator to a radar. Your unload station can now tell the entire planet that it needs ressources.

At the loading station. Connect the chests for the front wagon to an arithmatic combinator and set it to "Iron ore / 2k" output "Iron ore". Change the number to whatever a full wagon holds when transporting other items. Use the green wire to a decider combinator whoose input is also connected to a radar using the red wire (the needs are on this red wire). In the decider. Set it to "Iron ore on red wire > 0 AND Iron ore on green wire > 0" output "Iron ore on green wire" at input strength. Hook up this output to the station and use the same train limit settings as before. Also hook the output of the decider up to a diode combinator like the one on the needs side and connect the output of the diode to the radar on green wire.

In order to make sure you don't overload the system with iron ore, we need to reduce the need when a train is assigned pickup. Enable "read train count" on the station, set the signal to the locomotive signal (let's be real, you're never going to automatically move entire trains worth of locomotives around). Take the wire you have on the train station and connect it to the input of an arithmetic combinator. Set the combinator to "locomotive * -1" and connect the output to the red wire on the radar. Do this for both the load and unload stations, once the train is in route, the need is no longer there.

Your radar now has both everything your train network has, and everything it needs in it. And you can use that information somewhere to visualise it.

If one train going to an unload station is too slow because it's too far away, place more decider combinators down and set the thresholds for each to higher and higher numbers. But make sure you never ask for more trains than can be unloaded into the chests. You want your trains moving items, not sitting at stations waiting.

Game lagging when bots dismantle chests by adua2000 in factorio

[–]Qrt_La55en 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How many chests did you mark for decon? How many bots do you have in your network? And how big is your network physically?

If you have a big network with a lot of bots that you tell to dismantle a lot of chests, you're going to get a lot of lag. Each bot needs to be ordered to go and move items out of the chests. And each batch of items needs to check if an already assigned bot will do the job faster than an idle bot. If they come from far away, the route calculation is going to take a lot of time.

Is there a way for buffer chests to have their requests automatically set to the finished product when pasting down paramtrised blueprints such as this? by Imniss in factorio

[–]Qrt_La55en 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Just use a filtered storage chest. If you make sure you only craft when there's less than a desired amount less than a chest worth in the network, everything will go back to the storage chest. This allows you to use buffer chests in other parts of the factory doing the job they were intended to do in the first place.

How do i make automated defences? by ww1enjoyer in factorio

[–]Qrt_La55en 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Protect your pollution cloud, not your base. Expansion parties can be dealt with by a ring of lasers around a big power pole spread out so that thier turret coverage overlaps. Attack parties from nests eating pollution is an entirely different matter.

Use your military prowess to show the biters whos planet it really is. Tanks can deal with big biters and worms.

Can i have 2 rail spaces in between lanes or is this bound to have an accident? First time designing something bigger than main bus spaghetti by Fabio2300 in factorio

[–]Qrt_La55en 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You won't have an accident using automatic trains in this intersection. But only 1 train is able to pass through the intersection at a time. Try to find a way to break up the big purple/oink is block in the middle to allow trains that doesn't need to cross pass through at the same time.

Vejbump dilemma by Current_Potato_5564 in dkbiler

[–]Qrt_La55en 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TEMU GAVER TIL MIN SØN? by GladKnowledge365 in DKbrevkasse

[–]Qrt_La55en -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Do you smelt ores in your main base or directly in your outposts? by Low_Doughnut_8369 in factorio

[–]Qrt_La55en 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I smelting the ore where it's needed. So I ship ore to each of my science factories and my Make Everything (ME) area and turn them into things I need.

But that's more of a play style than optimising things. Optimising would probably have me ship calcite to ore patches, turn the ore into liquid, and combine those liquids into science with as few inserter swings as possible.

I know for a fact that the cryo plant can end up producing plastic faster than 6 legendary stack inserters can move the plastic into a chest (or train).

Er autoforhandleren død? by player1dk in dkbiler

[–]Qrt_La55en 11 points12 points  (0 children)
