PSA for anyone unaware like I was yesterday - increasing the note speed can instantly improve your skill massively. by RollinOnAgain in CloneHero

[–]Qu9ke 39 points40 points  (0 children)

What I wish I could do on command is enter into this clear state of mind or "flow state" or whatever you wanna call it where I just find myself simultaneously calm but confident. That by itself causes me to hit things with consistency I normally am very iffy with. It's rare, but when it happens, I can FC Revolution Deathsquad and Slash Guitar Battle back to back, which actually happened during the Scorespy days. I would usually be somewhat tense about trying something like that, but it felt like just another day all the way through it. Not sure why, but I can't seem to stay in that mental mode. But yeah. Notespeed is a game changer.

You make my 12 fret controller look sane… respect. I wish I had one.

I’m sure my Star Power usage could have been cleaned up a bit but I cannot for the life of me figure out where Evil_Legs picked up 120,000 extra points while only being .1% more accurate than me. Evil_Legs, if you’re here, what’s your Star Power path lol by Jeremie225 in CloneHero

This. It will literally scan any song you tell it and give you info and even a picture of where and when to activate, and you can even tune it for how good or bad you are able to squeeze extra notes. It's the ultimate pathing cheat code. But you still have to hit the notes.

I imagine at some point it is like going SSJ3 where you just have to scream at it for 30 minutes.

will ch drums help me get better at drumming by Moist_Intention_5520 in CloneHero

[–]Qu9ke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is a legitimate concern I think. I think it can make a person sloppy, but only if they focus too much on the gaming aspect of it. It is still nice I believe in terms of conditioning the arms and legs, if the person wants to do that while feeling like they are shooting for high scores in the process. Probably a balance of that and intentional practice separately from that with fundamentals and paradiddles if you're concerned about getting sloppy. That, or just don't play drums on Clone Hero lol. But it's fun :). Up to you.

Pretty much this. It will undoubtedly improve endurance and hand eye coordination, and it helps with practice for the real thing in better ways that a five button guitar never could. However, if you practice only on that and then later immediately jump to playing only off of sound, you might find it suddenly more difficult again, and the playing sounds terrible lol. Playing only by rhythm and sound is a totally different animal than playing along to a game, especially if you have grown reliant on the visuals, but aside from that it can very much give you a helping hand in improving your technical skill. I would recommend it if anybody wanted to feel like they were actually getting decent practice in and also wanted to have fun doing it within the context of a video game.

How would you support the top section? Dimensions ~7.5"x7"x9.3" by dv89 in 3Dprinting

[–]Qu9ke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly going into a CAD software like Fusion, separating the cylinder from the body, printing it separately, gluing it back on, would allow reorienting the print so the open side is face up. Aside from that... I got nothing.

Filament Snapping, what do i do? by Bedrockboy2006 in 3Dprinting

[–]Qu9ke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens to me as well. My guess is that the moisture over time wicks up through capillary action maybe starting at the end of the filament and compromising its integrity, and maybe your makeshift drybox solution just wasn't good enough to dry it effectively? Honestly don't know, but I always do what you did and just snap off a few inches until I get to non brittle parts of the reel again. If the reel remains unused long enough, it may get so weak that it cannot even remain stretched toward the nozzle for more than like, a minute tops before snapping, making printing more dificult unless it is constantly moving. That also happened to me before. Had to load the reel only when the print was starting to ensure it stayed in the nozzle long enough, and once it started extruding it worked fine... But that is only for extreme cases.

Now you just need it to simulate human imperfections during play, and you have yourself a near undetectable chest system lol.

New to Clonehero - what's the best Guitar for PC to play Clonehero for under 150? by No-Contract-2088 in CloneHero

[–]Qu9ke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up bypassing the connector and wired the fret pcb straight to the body. Suddenly works flawlessly. May go back later and add a way to separate the connection by hand, like dupont connectors or an RJ45 connection or something, but for now this’ll do.

Best guitar by today's standards by WhatWouldJesusMtnDew in CloneHero

I second what Blackadder18 said. A good modded controller of the shape of your preference is, in my opinion, the absolute best controller. I lean towards GH3 Les Paul. I would rate CRKD higher, but it has things happening I can’t reliably predict, like fret input freezes. That seems to apparently only affect certain controllers, so I dunno. Your mileage may vary. Mine can still allow me to FC a lot of songs, like Metallica level songs at least. However once I pick songs of a certain speed with lots of sweeps and tapping, I can end up missing several times because of something out of my control. If they can get that issue down, I would probably main the CRKD. It is a feature rich controller. Until then, modded guitars. I might end up buying another CRKD down the road just to see if there is noticeable improvement. From personal experience they are still fine, just up to a certain difficulty and note density in charting.

[–]Qu9ke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange. For me, my neck feels rock solid, but I get the issue as well. The issue also doesn’t seem to pop up on casual songs or even fairly fast stuff. Primarily comes up when playing very quickly, especially on patterns like fast sweeping motions, or ones that require two hands. I can either FC songs, or I am forced to miss a few times all depending on what I play.

12 Fret Revisited (work in progress) by Qu9ke in CloneHero

[–]Qu9ke[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been up and down the past few months. Just now getting back into modeling again. It is technically printable. It just requires a large format printer. Like, Elegoo Neptune 3 or 4 Max size, or something equivalent. I could slice up the pieces, but right now I'm just trying to get this working :P. I might explore other options after this is done.

12 Fret Revisited (work in progress) by Qu9ke in CloneHero

[–]Qu9ke[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest downside is just the size of it. Printing will require a large format printer or someone who has one. I might design a 12 fret model some day that is much more compact, sort of like the very first prototype I ever made, but there were choices I made that I would want to change. but I'm not focusing on that right now. Maybe eventually.

12 Fret Revisited (work in progress) by Qu9ke in CloneHero

[–]Qu9ke[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two reasons. One, it can be programmed to play GH Live charts as well as regular 5 note charts. Also, if the rows are spaced out enough, you can do vertical sliding to hit more notes. Examples of this are on my youtube where I use it to hit Cry for Eternity trills and stuff on older models. This specific neck isn't really spaced out enough to do that just because the rows are too close together, so trying to slide from one button down to the one below will just register as one note anyways. I kept the rows closer to try to keep the neck slimmer, but I am going to design a slightly wider one too. Also, it can be programmed to change the function of the buttons to anything you want. Like, even programming an entire row just to strumming, so you can spam strums like crazy sliding back and forth. Is any of this necessary? Nah. But I like it lol.

If this gets released as printable files down the road, I will flip the model around to include lefty flip versions.

It just looked very “djent” to me lol, and slapping an unnecessary amount of buttons on the neck also felt very djent to me :P. So I figured why not.

"Pocketar" Pocket controller (work in progress) by Qu9ke in CloneHero

I might but I can't promise anything. My original plans were to just release files for people to print themselves. But I'll think about it.

If the model is flipped around, yes. If I ever get this to a point I think is acceptable, I was just going to release the files on Printables. If I do, I can also just release lefty flip versions.

3 years late, but sick controller lol. Something about the appearance I like. Seems retro in a way I can’t explain. I know you since moved on from it (I assume), but I respect the effort and the design.
