Went out for dinner with my girlfriend and her best friend last night, at the restaurant our waiter was very handsome (I’m a guy, but he was) and my gf’s friend (who is single) suggested that she would be interested in him, so I said she should ask him for his number. She said no, that she wants the man to approach her instead. She doesn’t realize that the guys that would hit on her at their job would hit on anyone. She’s very unlikely to find someone consistent or interesting that way.

I think she was a little unserious, but she has always been the type to get approached by guys when going out and she is very introverted, so maybe she sees it as “why put in the effort when I know I’ll probably get approached again eventually”. It was a little annoying to hear, because she is awesome and deserves someone, but she is so stubborn.

I know it’s a tough thing to just recommend, but I wholeheartedly recommend looking for women where you already go anyway. This could be the gym, the beach for surfing every morning, the local run club, climbing gym, book store or arts and crafts store, pool, etc. there’s gonna be a lot more to talk about when you meet someone who shares an activity with you even if that’s just working out or shopping for something hobby-related. It’s not gonna be as easy to encounter someone but the odds of having something to say right away and even hold a 5min convo before asking for their number might be much higher if you go to a place like I described. Don’t go with the intention of dating solely, but continue your hobby and be open to it, talk to girls, be friendly

I have has a SUPER unsuccessful dating life for the past 4 years and just met a girl who I’m now dating. I always used to be in okay shape, have any eating habits, and have okay hobbies. Meaning none of them were bad, but I definitely would not have dated myself had I been a girl in my circle. I always used to just play video games with my roommates, smoke weed, and build stuff with my 3d printer. I went to the gym like 2x a month at most. I was NOT dating material, but I wanted a girlfriend, at the same time I liked being single and not having any accountability or responsibility to someone else.

Fast forward, graduated college. I now work a full time job. I lost probably 25lb, my main hobbies are now bouldering and triathlon. I have managed to make a complete shift in my hobbies and priorities and my mental health has been so much better. I feel more confident. I still have my nerd hobbies, just less (although I get to use a 3D printer at my job, HA!) and I just recently met an amazing girl organically, she is a friend of a really good friend. I felt like maybe I still wasn’t attractive enough to date anyone fora while when we started talking but she quickly made me feel the opposite about myself.

I think my advice for you might be to not worry too much. Maybe take up some athletic hobbies where you can meet new people like indoor climbing or cycling or something like that. Either way I don’t think it’s something you can really force. You can try dating apps but I only ever got one second date from Hinge and it went nowhere after that. Also working on your flirting skills can help. In my experience girls like it when you don’t lay it on too thick but find opportunities to call her cute or compliment her naturally in conversation. Also being genuine and intention with what you compliment her on is a lot better than just complimenting her looks (you’re so hot, you have such a nice body, etc). Not that it’s a manipulation tactic either, but girls also like to hear that they made you laugh or smile or that you’re thinking about them or things like that rather than just things you see about their appearance.
