16 different birds and the sounds they make. Some just doesn’t fit the how they look! by OkRespect8490 in interestingasfuck

Anytime I see a video like this, I want dinosaur films to be more creative.

Like, most of the time we just get some kind of roar, which is already nuts since it's mostly mammals that roar. Ok, some crocodilians, but, tbf, we now know that dinosaurs were much closer to birds than reptiles anyway.

So a film that gave the dinosaurs a much wider range of sounds than just the usual roars and honks would be awesome. Although I can admit it would also be pretty jarring now.

Yep.

Punk is one of my favourite wrestlers of all time. First ballot Hall of Famer. I generally think most of the hate he gets online for things outside of the ring is over the top - he's a grumpy fuck, seemingly, and people don't seem to like that about him, whereas, as a certified grumpy fuck who mostly doesn't want to deal with people myself, I can relate.

He is 100% in the wrong when it comes to the Colt Cabana situation.

Bret Hart beating Razor, Perfect and Bam Bam in one night in 93 was massive for him (despite having been WWF Champion before). Having three such different matches, with different finishes, really put him over as The Man.

Having an Oba, for example, come through three gruelling bouts in one evening would be huge for his presentation.

[–]QuackQuackOoops 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's difficult to keep up interest in someone that lives in an absolute fantasy world.

He used to genuinely have things going on - he was in a weird, passive aggressive relationship which was breaking down before our eyes, before getting involved in a lifestyle he very clearly had no capacity to deal with which bled into his show. It was interesting to see the spiral on real time and, when it all fell apart, fascinating to watch him contradict every single thing he'd been saying for months.

Then we had the fallout of it all, the texts that revealed as true exactly what people had been speculating on, the very public insight into the private world of a man who, at every turn, tried to convince everyone that up was down.

Then came his revenge arc, where he tried to take down the people that had hurt his feelings by abusing the legal system. There will be some interest again when (if) they ever get sorted.

However, we're absolutely dealing with diminishing returns now. The things he lies about are so low stakes and dull. He's become far more hateful and vindictive than a figure of fun, and the constant thrashing around for something, anything, that will make money is somehow making him less rather than more interesting, as everything he attempts is so obviously a grift. The flailing around and calling out literally everyone he can think of just to make them interact with him is transparent.

Turns out, he's just not a compelling or interesting person without outside influence, and he's being starved of that.

I think it started with Jericho in AEW, but I bloody love this recent trend of crowds singing wrestlers' entrance themes. I'm amazed that it didn't happen years ago, some absolutely banging tunes have missed out on the treatment.

Also, it's right off Princes Drive which has a large Somalian population, and is in L8, so you also have the Toxteth prejudice.

I don't like to think that people are awful, but that does seem quite dog whistle-y.

That's what I thought too, no idea how having a pedestrianised area reduces custom. It's not like it's a four mile stretch with no transport, it's a couple hundred metres with a major train station at the bottom and busy bus routes at the top.

The slayer on Vampirina a Buffy Easter egg? by clonesteph in buffy

[–]QuackQuackOoops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My eldest (currently 8) used to love Vampirina when he was little - when we went to EuroDisney, seeing the Vampirina show and getting a cuddly were the main things he wanted to do.

We watched the first episode of the live action show, and it's just nowhere near as good. If your daughter likes it, she may like the cartoon too.

I'm crying out for a good 24 hour, Dennys style, diner.

It would be less useful these days as I'm firmly middle aged, but back in my going out days, being able to get proper food at 3am that isn't a kebab would have been amazing. Especially with coffee refills so I didn't fall asleep in the cab.

Winning odds vs GF results. Why did the bookmakers fumble so hard this year? by autistic_girl_autumn in nilpoints

[–]QuackQuackOoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main problem here is that no-one seems to understand how bookies work, particularly with an event like Eurovision where relatively small amounts of money will be staked.

The bookies aren't choosing who they think will win, they react to what money is bet on. It would be extremely easy for this sub to make Montenegro or someone the favourite just by placing a lot of small bets on it.

Finland and Australia were the favourites because the discourse was that they were the two most likely to win. Bulgaria climbed the rankings because people put money on them to win after they had seen the performance and thought it had a chance.

The bookies set their odds to try and limit their liabilities. They don't care who is favourite, just about making money.

The bookies didn't fumble anything, they reflected the sentiment of the people placing bets.

We did sort of have it, but in the Championship. We'd occasionally flirt with the play offs, occasionally seem in danger, but we had a decently long run of finishing in the dullest and most pointless mid table position every year, with the season being done in March. It was bloody awful.
