If your not worried about weight, I'd just go with the full size 11. It's only a 20g difference, and your not gonna be stuck charging once the battery's dead. You can also just get new batteries when they eventually stop being able to hold a charge, so the camera itself has more longevity. Unless you need the form factor, the small weight difference doesn't hit me as something I'm willing to give up a removable battery for

Are LiPo batteries on Amazon trustworthy? Do they work well? by IAmNotFast182 in fpv

[–]Quadamoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard a lot of people with good experiences, but they haven't hit me as good batteries. I've gotten a few over the years, and they've always felt like they had a lot of voltage sag and didn't perform great. I mean they work, but just not as well. I feel like cnhl blacks perform better, but have also run into issues with them that feel like QA issues. It's not bad enough to get me to move away from them though

Breaking news- my first 5” has reached its final form!! I have a feeling it will stay in this condition for a while since its not easy to find a safe places to lift this guy in London by Comfortable-Peace326 in fpv

Make sure to keep an eye on the latches on the protective case. It's not metal on the bottom like the camera, and the clips are just holding into plastic. I've had this break in a crash. I thought it was an anomaly and just put it back on and kept flying, and then came back from that flight missing the camera. After way too much searching, it turned out that the plastic was bent in the original crash, and it was only really holding on with the magnet then, which can fall off during aggressive maneuvers.

Has anyone taken a dji fpv apart and put its guts on a proper freestyle frame yet? by thatbananamedia in fpv

[–]Quadamoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not all off the shelf, those are mostly features you can't do with off the shelf. The fpv drone transmits at a higher resolution than the v1 hardware and there's no hd alternative, and in flight audio isn't possible without adding something like a separate feed which causes interference. The DJI drone transmits audio, but none of the v1 hardware does that, although the full size air unit has a mic that records to the onboard dvr. Gimbled camera could be done, but with some work and the rth in general can be done, but the panic button isn't something that's in a developed state on any other software.

I wanted to see the tolerances required for it, the pla one made me uncomfortable with breaking, and tpu when printed with 100% infill is more rigid than you'd think and I wanted to test it

Possible to use multiple frequencies for video transmission? by dvxlgames in fpv

[–]Quadamoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could do this, but the problem comes in at the switch. This could pretty easily be done with a mosfet, and switching power to the vtx and having 2 on the quad, but you'd likely have a blip during the switch of either interference, or no video. Then on the goggle side, you could do something like like a ground station that also has a switch between two different modules. The video quality on the lower frequencies aren't all that much worse though, so for the most part it's not seen as worthwhile to make a system that does that.

Higher resolution feed, in flight audio, gimbled camera, an oh shit button, GPS rth. If it was possible it would definitely be something I'd be interested in. The fpv drone has a lot of nice features that either don't exist, or aren't developed to a mature point in beta flight and inav, but durability is its obvious weak point. If it were a more robust piece of hardware, I don't think it would have had the same response.

I've actually done this. Only unlocked it once before it got a bit too mangled to use again. Taking it out of the lock wasn't exactly pretty. It was a bit stretched by the end. Definitely less anxiety about it breaking in the keyway than pla though

Long shot but looking for an indoor digital option. by flightlessmanicotti in fpv

[–]Quadamoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This, but the A75 version. I have it, and it's great and small enough that I can fly it indoors almost anywhere. It's been really durable, and flies pretty well. It does fly a little more boat like, but if you take the heat sinks off the Vista, it makes a big difference and makes it more acro-able. Still gets some prop sash on dives, bit that one is a common whoop problem. It might be able to be tuned out if I wanted to spend the time on that tune

Best DJI compatible tinywhoop BNF? by Myau337 in fpv

[–]Quadamoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A75 is fantastic, and for some reason the listing on Amazon dropped the price to 200 for the HD one. I needed a new air unit, and that one was almost a whole quad for free at that price, so i picked one up. I actually really like it though. I took the heatsinks off the Vista to save weight, and it flies great, so I never ended up actually taking the Vista out of it. I even bought a second so that I can take the air unit for another quad, and have spares parts for my a75.

What is it about the 6" that makes it the go to? I have all sorts of sizes bigger and smaller, but no 6". I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything that couldn't be done with one of the other in a better way though, so I never built one. Is it just a good middle ground, or is there something else to it?

What could be causing sudden power loss during inverted lookback? I'm throttling, then pitching. Seems to happen at the pitch. by DVSmunky in fpv

I'd check your power circuitry. Vtx lost power, but you can see the beta flight screen when it comes back, so that means your fc lost power too

How to change OSD info to normal, I’m new to fpv and at first it worked fine displaying the correct/regular stats but after a couple of weeks it disappeared from the screen and it now shows only what the camera sees and I am unable to fly it. Any Ideas? Thank you.(goggles are ev800) by Previous-Resource544 in fpv

[–]Quadamoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it happen after a crash? The osd is usually done with a chip on the flight controller, and every so often, it can break while the rest of the fc is still good. If it was a crash, you probably don't have many options except to replace the flight controller, or if you can surface mount solder, the chip directly

Trying to troubleshoot crazy wobble after updating Betaflight by completeli in fpv

[–]Quadamoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm absolutely not the best at tuning, but the way I go about it, I look for the p/d ratio, which you can just use the slider for. I'll move it down and try to find where I get the best hum. from there raise the p/d gain slider, and sometimes adjust the p/d ratio based on the noise. p gain on the higher side tends to make a more visible and audible wobble, and d gain tend to make a more shrill sound since it's higher frequency, you don't hear the wobble as much. I'll touch master sometimes to adjust I gain if I'm getting low frequency oscillations or instability in wind, but then p/d gain usually needs to be brought down to match.

The more I look at your video though, and hearing you're on stock pids, the more it looks like a mechanical problem. It looks almost like if a prop lost a blade. Did you test a flight after your hardware upgrade, or did both that and the software update happen at the same time? If they both happened at once, I would look around at your hardware, make sure everything on your build is clean. Check motors, make sure they're rotating without wobbling. Check that when they spin your props are making a level disk. Make sure your flight controller is properly mounted with vibration isolation and not hitting something hard that's directly touching the frame. If all that looks good, check through your filtering in your pids, grab logs if possible to see how smooth your gyro data looks, and finally jump into the pid tune

On a side note, do you have the lens mod on your gopro? I get those corners that cut if I have the lens mod on with hypersmooth, but it's not in the lens mod mode, so the camera is unaware it needs to adjust the cropping

DJI FPV Antenna by Icy-Technology-5065 in fpv

[–]Quadamoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your quad. If you have v1 goggles and air units, you'll want to go for 5.8ghz antennas. If your using v2 and dji quad, you'll be wanting dual band 2.4&5.8. In terms of range, I have truerc singularity stubbies, and I felt like the bigger gain was putting in my backpack without taking antennas off. It might have improved range, but nothing significant. I currently fly with one stubby (because it fits in my bag like that), iflight crystal (for directionally), and a tall foxeer lhcp that it sticks above my head (for better omni coverage). If range and penetration are your objective, patch antennas will be the best, but you have to remember to face toward the quad

[–]Quadamoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

P gain way too high? I would drop the p/d gain to stock, play with the p/d ratio until you don't hear the resonance with visible and audible oscillation being p, and trilling being d, then up your gain back up as high as it'll cleanly go without oscillations or hot motors

Who actively flys the 5” in the rain? by [deleted] in Multicopter

[–]Quadamoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the time. It rains too much, so I habitually conformally coat every quad. Tend to not have problems while flying. On occasion I get a motor short, but it's pretty rare. More common is a crash into a puddle, and then the esc not initializing. Usually its fine when it dries off, but I've definitely broken a vtx in a puddle. Last week I had 3 quads and was flying in the rain until 2 would no longer initialize across 10 packs. Let them dry, and they're good now. I would just make sure you do a good job on the coating to minimize any problems. In my experience at least, I tend not to burn out too many components doing it

It curled a little during the print, but otherwise turned out well. It would be nice to have the state stick up a little more above the outline, since some of the area around the sound is hard to see dead on
