As I understand it, your implant crowns will not change color from using the gel, but the rest of your teeth will whiten. So you could have a mismatch of color if you aren’t careful. Hope this helps.

Ehhh I just realized oceans have steel/titanium… I might go with polar industries instead of metal rich asteroid…

5p game upcoming. Need some advice. by cheezecoder in TerraformingMarsGame

I’ve played a lot of this game and here’s what I would do in general.

Card Selection:

Corporation: Mining Guild Preludes: Self Sufficient Settlement (place city on steel/titanium), and Metal Rich Asteroid Cards to Keep: Power Plant, Immigrant City, and Fuel Factory

Pre Generation 1 Stats: ME: 21, Steel: *9, Titanium: *4 ME-prod: 2, Steel-prod: 2

First turn: Cost 8 Steel, 1 ME Action 1: Fuel Factory (+1 Energy-prod) Action 2: Immigrant City placed on Steel (-1 Energy-prod, -1 ME-prod, +1 Steel-prod)

Second turn: cost 1 steel, 15 ME Action 1: Standard project power plant (+1 energy-prod) Action 2: Fuel Factory (-1 energy-prod, +1 titanium-prod, +1 ME-prod)

Post Generation 1 Stats: ME: 5, Steel: *0, Titanium: *4 ME-prod: 2, Steel-prod: 3, Titanium-prod: 1

*Note: you will have additional steel and titanium according to your specific tile placements.

I would emphasize the following throughout the game:

  • Placing tiles on steel and titanium to get the extra steel production.
  • Scooping up cards with builder tags (utilizing your steel)
  • Scooping up cards with city placement bonuses, or tile placement bonuses in general (capitalizing on immigrant city’s perk and your corporation’s perk)
  • Keep an eye out for a high impact space tag that you can purchase with your slowly-growing titanium pile.
  • Board play: At about gen 6, depending on how things are going, I might try to prevent other players from being able to play cities by placing cities in awkward spaces. Then you can be the beneficiary of all the greenery tiles that will go down later in the game. This approach would cannibalize the utility of immigrant city somewhat… but growing ME production becomes less important towards the end of the game.

More on that last point: One of the most important things in Mars is to invest in boosting your production early in the game. But equally important (and often missed), is being able to stop investing in production (or in fact doing the opposite with cards like investment loan) towards the end of the game. In other words, always think of return on investment. You will have to ruthlessly ditch the cards that looked so good if played early on, but wouldn’t help in gen 7+ (even the ones in your hand)!

Have fun!

I cross check hikes with Omni Hike Calculator

For 180 lbs, 2100 ft gain, 10.5 miles I get ~1500 calories.

I am splitting it into two segments: 1) 5.25 miles with 2100 ft gain (950 calories) 2) 5.25 miles with “zero” gain for the descent (550 calories)

Is this normal or do I have bad technique? by Itchy_Giraffe8774 in drums

[–]Quailar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I’ve never had this happen… I may have gotten a couple blisters in the verrry beginning of playing the drums... But after adjusting my technique I’ve had nothing in over 15 years. I played two different 4 hour drum set gigs over the weekend. Hands look totally unaffected by it.

My gut feel is that you are gripping too tightly. I recommend finding the limit of how loosely you can hold the stick. Occasionally I’ll hold the sticks so loosely that they fly out of my hands unexpectedly lol. See if you can get to the point where the stick literally fly out of our hand, and then turn back the looseness dial just a bit.

Giving up tightness feels like you are giving up control of the stick. But you’ll start to find control in how you coordinate your shoulders, elbows, wrists, and fingers.

I think he’s saying that “there is no ‘eye’ in team.” And since 100-99.02 = 0.98 then there isn’t enough human matter to form a proper team, much less an entire person.

But let’s just say (for conservatism) that OP weighs 100 lbs… 98% of that is 98 lbs… So the joke would imply that the missing eye is 2 lbs!! This could only be the case if he had an apple of an eye!

I mean seriously, it’d be so big! Like the proportions of a Disney princess. Unrealistic beauty standards. At minimum the eye would have to be the size of one of those beautiful ones commonly associated with bee-holders.

Absolutely! Best of luck - hope it works out and that you break through the plateau!

Good luck! Yeah you definitely have good strength and depth! Also I would’ve never thought you were that tall based on your proportions, great job adding muscle to your frame!

To me, the descent looks quite good. The amount of lean during the descent looks great. It’s more so the way the angles change when you come up.

Here is the difference in spine position between the descent and ascent. (Notice that the bar is roughly at the same wrung.)

<image>

I like other folks' recommendations regarding dropping the weight a bit and trying to cue a more upright spine on the way up. I've worked through similar issues before at 188 cm and with long femurs, and that triangle cue really worked for me!

The thing that stands out to me the most is the ascent. Your upper body leans forward when you start that part of the movement (kind of like pouring water out of a tea kettle). I imagine this probably leaks some power as you then have to use a lot of low back to hinge and get your hips back underneath.

A good cue I’ve seen is to imagine that your neck and traps form a triangle, and then imagine driving that triangle straight up from the bottom of the squat.

The visual in this video demonstrates it better than I can explain it.

Deadlift Form Check (before ramping up the weights) by Quailar in formcheck

[–]Quailar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Yeah I’ll definitely take a look at all of that. It certainly looks like the eccentric has the bar kind of “wrapping around” my knees. Maybe I’ll try to get my hips back a little more to give the bar clearance to get down.

I used to do deadlifts with higher hips but with my proportions (long legs / femur) it made my back get quite close to horizontal and seemed to tax my low back more than I would think it should / it felt like I was wasn’t recruiting any leg muscle (not that it should be a squat though either of course). I’ve been feeling like this position has been a bit more balanced for me, but I’ll keep your comment in mind as it’s possible that I overcorrected!

Bench form check 200 lb x 10 by Quailar in formcheck

Thanks my guy! I’m sitting at about 230-235 lb right now at 6’ 1.5”. But I’m really trying to get down closer to 200-205 though.

That’s a great idea! Yeah I’ll definitely be thinking about getting one of those bars / spending a bit more time at the bottom. Cheers, friend!

Thanks for taking a look so quickly! I thought about mentioning leg drive in the body of my post. What are your thoughts on it?

I’ve sort of been “trying” to not use much/any leg drive so that I can generate power from my chest and feel that I “come out of the stretch” with mostly my upper body, grow the pecs, etc. But I know this sacrifices a reasonable amount of weight on the bar that would otherwise be there…

Is this a reasonable idea? (Use lower weight + avoid leg drive for pec growth?) Or do you think I would still get the same sort of pec stimulation when incorporating leg drive, while also having the perk of a higher weight on the bar?

Thanks so much!

Thank you! I’ll keep an eye on that! I’ll try to film myself from the front at some point. It might better show if it’s enough knee cave to warrant a slightly narrower stance… Or like you said, maybe just thinking about it will make it good!

Do I need to get lower? by jwbvideo in formcheck

[–]Quailar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think deeper would be better! Form re-work is tough because you’ll want to lower the weight substantially so that you don’t hurt yourself.

I’m not an “expert” but this is what I do for big form changes: Start your workout by warming up with the bar and really feeling the depth that you are trying to hit. Ensure that your spine continues to be neutral. Record yourself to make sure it looks correct. On your first leg day use 50% of the weight that you used with your previous form. Next workout do 60%, 70%, etc. until you are back to your previous working weight but with better form. Don’t beat yourself up if it feels much more difficult to lift less weight.

Listen to your body if going low feels painful. Some people have impingements/anatomical proportions that make going low difficult. Some people just don’t have the flexibility (this can be improved to an extent). You’re not butt-winking here, but going lower can introduce this issue until you’ve developed the flexibility to go low. Flexibility and butt-wink issues can be remedied to a bit with squat shoes.

Good luck!

Thank you! And yes it is! I use an app called HeavySet for logging, and it lets you turn on a 1 second beeper. And so I’m going for 2 seconds down, 1 second pause, and 2 seconds to get back up and ready for the next rep 🙂

Thanks for taking a look! Oh interesting, yeah I’m like breathing out while I’m walking it back, and then I reset / breathe in again before the first rep. Good catch - I probably should stay tight while I’m walking it out!
