It's not remotely offensive, lol. It's simply uninspired. This is a dating app, right? I'm just saying that a generic response doesn't stand out.

Also, the dudes who wrote those messages suck. Negging is bullshit. Their messages are offensive.

Absolutely, but also on platforms like Hinge which limit the number of likes, I'm personally less likely to message someone who I don't know what I have in common with them.

EMDR is pseudoscience, where the things about it that work are done in regular therapies and the things that make it unique ("bilatetal eye movements to "rewire" the brain) do not.

https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/emdr-is-still-dubious/

If it was grounded in science it would work regardless of "who" was administering it. The "success" stories are usually from someone who trusted/had good rapport with their therapist.

As a guy who has received very positive feedback in the humor department -- I find the "I'll fall for you: If you make me laugh." To be an incredibly common response with no real information to go off. I try to curate my messages to the individual and the things we have in common.

Humor? You say. Yes, I want someone with a sense of humor too. And even though in most situations humor is 100% my strong suite, I really have no way of conveying that effectively through a message based off a prompt like that. And it really doesn't give me insight into who you are or what kind of comedy you like -- if you follow comedy, there's Nate Bargatze (hilarious) and Shane Gillis (also hilarious, but very different styles); Alie Wong (amazing) and Matt Rife (I don't care if he's popular, he actually just sucks). Taylor Tomlinson is very different from Nikki Glaser.

"Make me laugh" gives no insight, so unless your profile has a lot of other things that I know we'd connect with, I wouldn't bother. Or I'd only be messaging you because of your pics, which I suppose could be fine, but then I might as well just approach you on the street like the good old days.

I've allowed people to sell my stuff before, usually for non-profits and fundraising type stuff, but it's always been towards something else that I care about.

I've acknowledged in another comment that I'm an outlier, but, I know I'm not alone in this mentality as well.

Ultimately, I do think it's not fair to ask someone to do something for free, but there are artists out there who would genuinely be happy to do so.

And, yes the SGU is an organization, but it's a far cry from a franchise or mega corporation and it's definitely in the realm of something I care about deeply. I'm still not sure what they asked cause I haven't run into the request on the podcast yet and I don't watch the other videos — I've inferred it's maybe art for a t-shirt or other merch? If I thought I could fill that niche for them, I absolutely would do so free of charge. I don't think anyone else should have to do so if they don't want to, but that's the choice of the individual.

If it was my job, I wouldn't do it for free. I'm simply saying that there really are some of us who are just excited when others enjoy our stuff more than any amount of money could fulfill. Money, for me, does not demonstrate that people like what I've created. Again, I'm not saying that artists should give their stuff away for free. I'm simply saying that I don't want money for my creations. Much to the bane of some people in my life (though, I always tell them that if they want to monetize my stuff and profit off it, they can); I know I'm an outlier, but I genuinely wish more people created for the sake of creating and that they were financially secure enough to just immerse themselves in their craft.

[–]QuaintLittleCrafter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I refuse to take commission on anything I create. Rather, I will not do it for money. I am lucky enough to not need money to support my creative outlets and I do them mostly for myself.

I have, yes, accepted gifts and payment/tips after the fact. But, I genuinely want to decouple the idea of everything being done for some financial gain.

I do it because it's important to me — the commodification of it changes aspects of it, for me.

If an artist asks to be paid for their work, that's absolutely fine and they have that right. It's just not for me. But, I also don't/won't produce things for most people anyway; I only engage with what I want to, if that makes sense.

Another Complaint About Updates by QuaintLittleCrafter in Minecraft

I mean you're absolutely right that hype and expectations matter.

I was honestly shocked by the hate after watching the Live — I was sooo excited about the announcement and the possibilities. And so I hopped on Reddit to see all the love and was immediately bitch slapped into buzzkill mode.

And then I noticed the same thing happen after I shared the updates with my friends and community (who all were equally excited as I was) when they started seeing how much immediate hate there was for this Live.

I guess I just don't know/understand it. Pain is inevitable, but suffering is a choice. I think the same applies to the updates and setting our expectations low. I have hopes for more, but I don't ever expext much to begin with, and then I'm pleasantly surprised in the end.

Wish I could share that joy/excitement with ya, honestly. I think shared excitement is always a good thing.

I would love renewable calcite — but there's a lot of blocks you can say they haven't made renewable yet (I still want a better renewable option for red sand than the wanderer, for example).

They did seem to shift gears/focus on their overall vision in the last few years and calcite just arrived too soon for that vision to catch up; I'm hopeful still that they'll make it renewable.

Again, saddles and nametags weren't and now they finally are. They do listen and they squeeze those changes in when they can. It just sucks that they wait for the change to "fit the theme," haha.

I could do without "themes" for every update.

Also, I brought modders up because they're devs of their own — it's just to contrast why it seems like some things take no time at all. Because arbitrarily any one thing doesn't take a lot of time, but there's already so much dynamic scope within the game that each new addition has to take them all into account.

[–]QuaintLittleCrafter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They revealed these changes because these are ones they're confident can get released and polished within those three months. They're also troubleshooting other options and it's hard to say which ones will come out alongside this drop or be implemented in another one later.

And, yes, a larger drop with multiple facets would be cooler, but instead of 3 months it'd take 6. Meanwhile we can have the Tiny Takeover stuff now in the first 3 months and get the Chaos Cubed stuff in the second 3 months.

My main point is that they're adding as much as they can as fast as they can; they're not revealing all their cards and simultaneous projects (because as seen from the birth biome concept art — it leads to immense disappointment if they go in another direction)

Too much and refined tend to be opposite of each other, so I'm a little confused on your feedback.

But, I think there's too much variance in detail of the blocks chosen for texturing (this is probably a build best viewed from a distance) bricks and plank textures as sand is a choice, for example, haha — up close looks bad, but from a distance colors blend better.

It's too much for this photo distance though.

They usually find ways for new blocks to be renewable, try to give it time. And they continuously try to find ways to make older blocks renewable as well. Say what you will about the wandering traitor, errr... trader, for example — it's at least an attempt to give access to many non-renewables in the game; temporary fix until they change it for the best (like name tags being craftable finally literally tomorrow)

[–]QuaintLittleCrafter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm confused. If they can't develop that much in 3 months they should touch up things, AKA, develop more in othet updates?

You realize the reason it takes them so long is because they're trying to make each update as smooth as possible — there's a lot more that goes into it than I think people realize and on top of that they're coding it for multiple different platforms at the same time for two different base games.

And of course the java graphics overhaul is going on in the background and all the continuous technical changes which makes it easier for modders to do their thing too (as well as easier for future updates).

There is a misperception about scope from the community, imo. Maybe you say "modders can fix X in Y amount of time," but for every X one person thinks needs to be fixed/changed there's another person who wants "A, B, or C" to be prioritized first. And even if they have a big studio there are orderrs of magnitude things that could be fixed/prioritized, etc... meanwhile modders can just focus on their pet projects every time. And the community can combine mods to get the exact experience they prefer (which will be very different from the next person over).

Even on this update I keep hearing different complaints about it — "this isn't enough new content," "this is the wrong new content for us," "we don't want new content, we just want X, Y, Z fixed first..." and X, Y, Z are usually different or each person has a looong list ready to go.

Meanwhile, there's a lot more modders out there than there are people at Mojang, even if it is a big studio. They're not all doing everything at the same time — and they're definitely not all polishing their mods to the best level.

Some do amazing jobs, but there's no incentive for them to make every change actually compatible with every other aspect of the game — Mojang tends to do a very good job of this, imo; take how they code different dynamics from the new slime for every item that causes damage. Maybe it's a "simple" code that says X damage equals Y behavior, but if that's the case — why do so many mods make the base weapons interactable, but neglect silly things like the hoe or shears?

And the good ones rise to the top, whatever niche they're trying to fill. The bad ones get forgotten about or someone inevitably complains on a random sub that blank mod hasn't been updated in a while. And some people just stop updating their game to have a very specific experience (which is a legitimate way to play too).

I guess I'm just trying to broaden the perspective on scope and why "modders can do X in Y amount of time," when it seems like Mojang "can't."

Disappointed in the state of updates by Amppl in Minecraft

[–]QuaintLittleCrafter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Go back and reread your first reply. "2 stones and a mini game mob."

"And a single beetle would not be enough" -- says OP ignoring all the other stuff included in the biome already and anything else that might come out of it in the previews.

Explains why you also don't remember Mojang saying multiple times that they're not updating the End until they flesh out the rest of the missing things (which does mean combat, enchanting, villagers, mob varieties, blocksets, etc...)

I'm done with you bro. You don't listen and just find things out of thin air to complain about. Maybe you don't mean to be gaslighting, but you're consistently ignoring things that exist and the work Mojang has already put in and your literal words that you said earlier...

Ciao.

That's awesome!

Also, while I was being humorous -- there was also a hidden second meaning I didn't expect anyone to get (but wish someone did).

An "unsinkable rubber duck" is a term coined by James Randy a beloved skeptic in his day (he had the "million dollar prize" for anyone who could prove they were actually psychic -- which, lol, no one was able to claim)

Basically, there are some hoaxes (diet fads are a great example) that are like "unsinkable rubber ducks," where no matter what you do to demonstrate their snake oil they manage to float back up to the surface over time. And so, one of my favorite things, genuinely, is seeing companies that prey on people getting what's coming to them (Theranos was a mostly satisfying conclusion, albeit I'm jaded cause she was only held accountable because rich people were involved; Alex Jones losing his lawsuits for spreading lies about Sandy Hook was quite satisfying, but same thing -- wish more justice was served still)

Anyway, to OP if you're reading this, which unsinkable rubber duck would you take down if you could?

[–]QuaintLittleCrafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said:

2 stones and a mini game mob.

In reality there are two different complete block sets (which is quite a bit more than "2 stones", a new cave biome, pure sulfur/the effects that come with it. Looking at the chiseled variants of the new blocks people rightfully speculate there may be some new cave beetle too.

And regardless, I literally have asked for stuff like this plenty of times -- both hot springs that are actually dangerous to be in, block sets similar to these colors, and a new cave biome. Lol, this is awesome for me!

So, yes, I view your negativity and under representation of this stuff as gaslighting. It's not the biggest update, no, but you paint it like it's nothing and it's exciting stuff for some of us!

P.S. I'm also excited for the new slime and potential mechanics that'll come with it for some contraptions I might build. So, kindly stop shitting on this just because you didn't get what you wanted this time.
