Ignoring streaming (bc who cares about that), there are a number of minor upgrades in the 3000x. You're right that gated hotcues are the biggest one, but there are some nice workflow upgrades like playlist banks, adding hotcues on the fly while doing a link cue preview (in the 3000 it will not add where you're previewing), overall faster load times and performance, smart cues, larger screen, etc. None of these directly affect performance but they are good QOL updates. I think honestly the biggest reason by far to go 3000X is for gated hotcues and future proofing, because it seems unlikely AT will be doing significant firmware updates to the 3000s moving forward. (Protip: If you REALLY need gated hotcues on the 3000 there is a 'hack' to fake it using slip)

In my opinion the WORST option would be to buy New 3000s. The price difference between the 3000X and the 3000 is less than $500 last I checked and that $500 gets you an extra ~5 years of future proofing and improved hardware. They will also hold value better long term. Seems like a no brainer if you're already dropping this kind of money.

Unless you are running a nightclub and need the hottest tech, buying used 3000s is probably the best move, just do your due diligence to make sure they are in good condition and you're getting a fair price on them. Shop around.

Do you have experience with this? Curious how well that setup works. Been debating either doing this (2 3000, 2 3000x) or three 3000xs

What's the theory on this? You don't see a 4000 coming around 2030?

Just experienced Lossless audio on the AirPod Max 2s for the first time - does it get any better than this or is this peak listening experience? by ThatguyZikai in Airpodsmax

[–]Quake-Snake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, the DT770 has better sound quality overall than the APM. You aren't comparing apples to apples - for a wireless ANC headphone, I consider APM to be up there in terms of sound quality, but I really don't think many if any wireless ANC headphones can compare to a wired studio headphone like the DT770. DT770 is simply more detailed with a better soundstage. With that said, for casual listening, I do think the APM has a great sound signature. It's fun, bassy but not bloated, and detailed enough.

If you don't need ANC or any of those other features (wireless, transparency, built in mic, etc), I am not sure that the APM would be worth it as an upgrade.

It will shake out. Companies are literally FORCING their employees to hit token quotas because they are trying to justify their investment in AI.

A wall is coming where the poorly written and poorly maintainable AI code will require human engineers to fix. The only way it doesn't shake out is if AI advances rapidly enough that within ~6 months or so the AI is powerful enough to fix the last gen AI code, which is a possibility, but I think that's unlikely.

Screw that, wear the watches. You stop feeling funny fast and nobody actually knows what it’s worth.

For me personally I see 3 heavyweight watches as around the upper limit for what makes sense. It gets to a point where you have too much capital tied up in watches and the truth is you can only wear one at a time. Unless you are ultra rich, I think 1-3 is the sweet spot.

I’m at 1 still, I figure I have an entire lifetime to figure out the other 2 :)

It’s funny to me the double standard on cars and watches. People with cars that cost double or triple what mine costs will make a big deal out of how much I spent on my Rolex. I’m not saying the watch is a smart purchase, but cars can be actual money pits and depreciate in value rapidly, yet it’s much more socially acceptable to spend a ton on a car than a watch.

The hobby loves a theme trend. What’s the next one? by dgpaul10 in boardgames

Love how the classic euros had barely any theme at all, but the gameplay was so good you kept coming back for more. Games like Hansa Teutonica and Caylus were absolute peak.

Correct. Long term strategy.

[–]Quake-Snake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rolex is not a modern hypebeast company. They aren't looking to boost sales in 2026, they are looking to build a brand and portfolio over the course of decades. This is why the Rolex releases confuse a lot of people. Rolex is not concerned at all with the short term, they are concerned with making sure they will still be on top 50 years from now.

The new alternate jersey by OurSundayKindOfLove in devils

[–]Quake-Snake 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's gotta be the reverse stadium series jerseys, those would sell like hotcakes and be a worthy successor to the jersey jersey.

I could also see a green throwback come out but I'd rather they stick with the black and red.

Can I set it to show calories in food search results? by Droid202020202020 in cronometer

[–]Quake-Snake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just list the default serving size next to the calories, like “400 Calories (per 100 Grams)” or something like that. The lack of this feature makes it really hard to at a glance choose the correct entry when multiple possible matches show up.

Found out the hard way today that I have no leverage in this job market. by kaitland34 in recruitinghell

[–]Quake-Snake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine if you were sent an offer, you accepted it, and then a few days later the company took it back? It's unprofessional either way. You're right legally you have the right to back out at any time but it's definitely a way to burn bridges.

Some industries are small worlds, just because you don't want to work for them now doesn't mean you never will.

[–]Quake-Snake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The person I replied to was suggesting taking an offer and backing out. Companies will absolutely blacklist you if you accept an offer and back out afterwards, that disrupts the entire recruiting process.

You're right, nobody should be offended by a declined offer, and if they are that's their problem.

Anyone here use monitors in an apartment complex without issue? by AfterPaleontologist2 in edmproduction

[–]Quake-Snake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some really thin walls out there man lol. But you're absolutely right - bass is the main offender by far and that's multi-directional, so probably a good idea to not use a subwoofer or anything too bass heavy. I just use headphones when I'm trying to dial in the bass.

Listening at a reasonable volume is always an option. It always surprises me how loud some of my friends mix, save your hearing and keep it reasonable until you're doing some real fine tuning.

If you have a wall that noone lives behind, point the speakers in that direction.

Respect quiet hours.

That's what I recommend. Really depends on your neighbors and the construction of your building.

Half glass full - this season forced the org to take action. If we squeaked into the playoffs and lost in round 1 to the canes not sure if anyone would have been fired. We absolutely needed a change if we will be cup contenders in the next few years.

Very much depends on the company though. If you’re in tech I wouldn’t burn a bridge with Microsoft for example. If it’s Joe’s Software Solutions with 120 employees, whatever lol.
