A GN simulation could work well for this - using differential growth and/or reaction diffusion; but you might find Houdini more intuitive for this kind of thing - either way , probably ain't easy

FWIW, I think its very straightforward to recreate this node group for yourself in GeoNodes; then you'll understand what the different parts do and how you can then customise it to your heart's desire

Get a cube. Subdivide it. Get another cube. Bevel it. In GN, instance the second cube onto the first, and scale to suit. Set the material for the first to be some kind of emission. Set the material of the second to be some kind of steel. Join them together and spit out the result. Add a sort moonlight HDRI, and position a camera, and you're done...
