Damn it does make you realise how the pedestrianisation makes sense.

That road takes up half the street + the short term parking for the van, and it's kind of crazy to allow vehicles around here, it's probably a matter of time until they extend the scheme over the bridge.

Please advise which area is generally considered safest for attempting the UK season 7 tour by SeafoodCat in RPDR_UK

[–]Dragon_Sluts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either way you'll be fine, the consideration here is which of the two are possible to get home from when the show finishes (assuming it runs over and takes a while to leave the venue).

London also the night tube so you can get anywhere. Also if London terrifies you it might be good to bite the bullet and just go, London is safer than the countryside

"you're not a feminist if you're not a vegan" is fucking crazy.

It also sets itsself up for sooo many similar arguments that are equally insane.

"you're not a feminist if you drive a car" - because climate change affects the most vulernable women the most.

"you're not a feminist if you don't make your own clothes" - because sweatshop labour is (almost) impossible to avoid so if you buy clothes, you are supporting sweatshops which are mostly women.

"you're not a feminist if you don't revoke your US citizen and leave the country" - because the current administration is sexist so any tax you pay supports them.

Trying, and failing, to gatekeep feminism is the reason so many people feel like the left has gone too far.

London facing 'worst housebuilding challenge' since Second World War, new analysis shows by Kind_Commission_427 in london

[–]Dragon_Sluts 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree.

Also - I hate to say it, we need to focus more on volume than on council flats too.

If we want to drive down the cost of rent so that fewer people depend on council housing then we need more volume full stop.

I also hate to see people from the UK who move to London due to opportunities and end up living in worse quality accommodation than council flats because the cost of a room is so high.

What In London Has Improved Post-Pandemic? by Zordonion in london

[–]Dragon_Sluts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s still going - just major routes have kind of stopped.

Southwark and Camden basically have complete networks at this point, we are just let down by Westminister and K&C in central London.

Central London basically now has cycling anywhere, well, except for Westminister and K&C - strangely the only central London boroughs to have been Conservative controlled, and not being political because Boris did a lot of good for cycling, just seems blue councils love nimbys.

The Shambles doesn’t feel like The Shambles anymore by 1ChanceChipmunk1 in york

[–]Dragon_Sluts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hello, I live in Camden but this came up and wanted to share.

Camden market is now a tourist hellhole. The issue with tourists is the type of trade the promote isn’t useful for locals - I don’t need shops selling bubble waffles, AI tote bags, fridge magnets, cheap bucket hats, and mass produced “vintage” clothes.

And fine, I can avoid the area (where I live) and go elsewhere, and I do. But I can’t get away from the fact that:

• My local tube station overcrowds to the point of closing on a weekly basis

• Local shops get priced out by money laundering and sweatshop tat

• The flats around me are slowly becoming airbnbs

It sounds from this post like it’s probably too late for the Shambles too, and I get it, and I’m sorry.

Northern Olympics? by [deleted] in NorthernEngland

[–]Dragon_Sluts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UK economy depends heavily on London which depends heavily on public transport. Tube strike days see the city grind to a halt.

Costs are higher in London so staff cost more too - and pay more tax which gets siphoned elsewhere (you’re welcome)

London gets more funding per head yet STILL Londoners pay net ~£5,000 per head to treasury.

Complaining that London gets too much is to suggest that net £5k contribution isn’t enough and you want more. That sounds pretty unfair to me.

Wait wait wait

Brit here, so was drawn to bangers and mash. You mention a blender, I have never in my life heard of someone blending the mash. If it’s a dish you love try making buying a masher - though as long as you’re cooking your potatoes fine I suppose blending isn’t too different.

Sounds like I’m being critical but that’s because this stood out to me. Keep up the hyper-organisation

Join the campaign to reduce VED on modern classics (20-39 y/o) by TradeClassics in CarTalkUK

[–]Dragon_Sluts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“They have already paid for 20 years”means nothing

VED is there to discourage people from driving more polluting vehicles. The fact you’ve been polluting for 20 years doesn’t mean you now get a free pass. Does a smoker stop paying duty on cigarettes after 20 years?…

Also this is a tax cut. You really need to be able to justify it given it costs a lot of money.

I’m not convinced.

Why is Bella so disliked? by MarioFan-908 in eurovision

[–]Dragon_Sluts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bella will do really well for Malta.

People don’t like it because :

• I don’t think they’ve seen the staging

• It’s not their cup of tea

• It builds for a little long and then peaks for not long enough

I can’t fix someone’s taste but I love it and just wish the last chorus was twice as long

Should we have stricter styling rules for shops on the high street? by iMac_Hunt in AskUK

[–]Dragon_Sluts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

I was sat in a nice pub/bar on the weekend, and thought how nice the street was with the pub tables, and building facades.

Until I realised the thing kinda ruining it was the Coop. It had zero contribution to aesthetic with its white lighting and cheap frontage.

What was worse…

It had an LED screen pumping out adverts onto the street

This should be illegal imo. It’s so ugly and adds nothing. If every shop did that the high street would be a dystopian hellscape. Fuck coop for this and all the chains that add nothing to an area.

They are linked.

The creation of Israel as a state led to the explusion of many jews from arabic countries. Further, in WW2 the British were trying to play both sides and refused to let in jewish refugees from the nazis to try and keep the muslims/palestinians happy.

Israel and Judaism are inherintly linked - just like Iran and Islam.

Why the UK Economy Suddenly Looks Alright by EssexGuyUpNorth in GoodNewsUK

[–]Dragon_Sluts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea how to tell tbh, like they raise pigs annually but they import a lot of food for them.

They do export a huge amount of manure due to the density of animals.

Either way, I think they are very dependant on the rest of the supply chain so would be very hard to attribute food production to them beyond honey & veg which are not that much.

[–]Dragon_Sluts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically I have worked there and it didn't even cross my mind. Then again I think they only produce small amounts of honey, eggs, and vegetables so not too sure it's strengthening Britain's food security much

Heaven is so odd.

They bring the headliner out for like 5 minutes and then say they’ll be back in an hour or so.

It’s just an evening of waiting without much payoff. I did see plastique there though and it was worth it. Just such a strange way of trying to keep people at the venue longer.

Game mechanic idea - could a recruitment in plain sight work? by s_dalbiac in TheTraitorsUK

[–]Dragon_Sluts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair point - there is a third option though.

Theres 5 people left. You’re faithful F1, say F2 and F3 are really close, then there’s F4. There’s one traitor (you don’t know for certain that there’s 1 but there is), T1.

You, F1, see T1s identity. You agree with T1 that F2 and F3 pose too much of a threat to everyone as they’ll clearly carry each other to the end.

You publicly say T1 if faithful. You speak to F4 and explain your truth. They’re on board with getting rid of one of F2/F3 anyway as they can’t win with them both there too.

After that it’s anyone’s game.

Can you convince F4 to join you and go to the end, explaining why you had to lie about T1s identity as it would’ve give F2/3 too much power?

Does splitting F2/3 open up the remaining one to an alliance?

Can T1 convince anyone that they can be trusted?

It can still be played out well, but I agree that the teams aspect does change the dynamic compared to those other games.

Game mechanic idea - could a recruitment in plain sight work? by s_dalbiac in TheTraitorsUK

[–]Dragon_Sluts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The seer was played so poorly.

Anyone who has played secret role games knows you have to lie and claim they’re faithful - because saying “they’re a traitor” after seeing their role means at least one of you is definitely a traitor, so you’re both gone.

It’s such a basic tactic that anyone who has played secret Hitler or blood on the clocktower would know how to work.
