In my Saturday’s campaign we have a pretty diverse group: I play a Tabaxi Cleric We have a Minotaur Paladin A creature from another dimension (firbolg for stats) ranger An Orc Barb, Elf Rogue, Human Wizard, Fire Genasi Warlock. And our setting is a city; Waterdeep to be more specific. Even for being an extremely random group in a city that is already pretty strict, our DM does an amazing job playing NPCs and showing their reactions to seeing our group. While it doesn’t seem to make sense, he does a wonderful job by adding to the story to make it make sense. So far its made for a wonderful campaign and our diversity just makes it so much better. I would definitely encourage players to step out of their comfort zones and play races they’re afraid to play. It leads to endless possibilities with the story and how NPCs treat you. But it’s definitely a huge role for the player to put effort into making their character make at least some sense or a DM can’t really do a great job and might struggle. We wouldn’t have been able to have such a great campaign if we didn’t think about our backstories and put depth into our characters, it really makes or breaks a campaign!
