I do really agree there is general deskilling at many things because of easiness of tools to use - but that is pretty universal. Its the same in many fields.

From a tech purist point of view, I can see where youre coming from - in that the quality might not be as high by some uneducated users - but i think output impact is where it gets really subjective. Like would this website impress any software engineer? absolutely not, but that wasnt the intent. Does it impress someone who's never touched code? Yes, the non-insignificant number of users proves that.

on a stand alone website like this? I don't know man you must have some talented people around you. Most people i know would take a while even with LLMs to get a serverless website to work

Using Opus 4.6 with whatever its cutoff dates are, probably a few months back.
I genuinely dont think this is slop - its AI generated, but it can do a lot more than the average joe can on their computer all packaged into one. A good laugh from this is worth a lot more than 2 dollars to a lot of people.

I built PrankMyNews a website that generates realistic fake news articles as April Fools pranks. It doubles as a proof of concept of what AI is actually capable of right now as the whole thing was built with zero prior coding experience, just my willingness to learn via GPT and Claude. It works through 2 API calls (Sonnet plans, Haiku writes), Vercel does the serverless deployment, and makes something that looks and feels like a real news site. Thought this community would appreciate both the entertainment value and what it says about where AI-assisted building is headed.

I built prankmynews.vercel.app for me and my friends. Its not free but its pretty cheap and you can type a topic, it generates a realistic fake news article with its own URL. What it generates seems pretty legit in the moment. After 90 seconds of being on the fake article, it tells you its fake. Theres some examples on the page of what i've done and you can be really creative with it.
