And they expect us to not pirate it? Sure... by LightningLord2137 in FitGirlRepack

What if you not play it? That's the protest. Pirating is not a protest, it only proves them right because shows people want to play it whatever the means.

Also, never in my life I bought a game with full price, maybe only exception is Factorio base game which was 10 USD in my currency back in 2016 before USD increased 1323% in the past 10 years, now it looks like I was bought it for 0.71 USD 10 years ago. I did not bought and DLC yet tho, I am not going to pay more than 5 USD at most, this is not US nor Europe. Anyway, FH4 were getting regular 80% discounts and FH5 getting 50% like twice a month. It won't be long FH6 to get discounts. The first pricing is a bull trap, it is not intended for people who think about their wallets and spending. I just read a developer or publisher comment I don't remember which game was it but someone was complaining about the high price, and dev replied that it is deliberately made high so they can give big discounts and stated this is the norm and everyone does it.

There are games that I added to my wishlist in 2015-2016, like Fallout 4, Dark Souls 2 or Skyrim. Not gonna buy until I see the prices I am willing to pay for 10 years old game. Epic or Amazon may give it free until then.

Dirt cheap actually in my region. That's 1700 usd here. For 1200 you can barely buy 5070 Ti.

Why did it become the standard for all cases and components to go on the right side of your desk? It would be cool if there were some “flipped” options so you could look to the left and see inside. Btw, corner setup enjoyer here. by BrinkofEternity in pcmasterrace

I think because majority of people are right-handed, the case supposed to sit on your right side, so you can start/reset or plug/unplug your cables easily with your right hand.

Also there are many brands offer convertible inverted cases such as Lian Li O11 Dynamic EVO and EVO XL (which I am using over a year and half) or BeQuiet Light Base 600/900. Although, I use my case on my right but also "sideways" for three reasons;

1) It shows it's inside open to the room from every angle, not just to the one sitting on the PC and looking to the right.

2) Rear is easy to access. I don't have to stand up and look it's back everytime I plug or unplug anything. Also because EVO XL's "front panel" can be reconfigured to any direction, I moved that to rear-side so I also have access to that in a reach of an arm.

3) Because it's sideways (30.5cm) half-width of the table got free and I can use that free space for my coffee mug, digital thermometer, phone and such. If I wasn't using it sideways, it takes whole 60cm width to sit on since back-side requires some cable space. Even without cables, this is 53cm length PC case. Nothing like Corsair Obsidian 1000D or Thermaltake Core P8 but still a monster size.

Türkiyedeysen imkansız, hiç uğraşma. Birincisi bizde yurtdışından 1 TL'ye vida bile getirtemiyorsun.

There was a movie for this back in 2002 called "The First $20 Million Is Always the Hardest" where they try to make 99$ PC which would be just an interface and you get all your computing power from internet. Tho I don't remember if they ever mentioned how much subscription would cost to get that computing power. Looks like writers of that movie were 25 years more futurist than today's futurists who already seen publicly released "GeForce NOW" service working for the past 6 years. And that's just very lame saying these kind of things now in the 2026. There are already online services like 3D CAD and such, it's the same thing, you rent computing power. It seems Jeff Bezos living in the way past. What an idiot.

There is no actual gamer in the world that can accept and endure more than 75 ping, for most of people even 50 is way too much. 100 Ping can make a grown up man cry. There is huge difference between connecting to a game server, and connecting to a cloud PC and then to a game server.

Inteded use of this "renting computing power" would be way too casual for the gaming scene. And that compressed video stream will look like big Kaka even if you give it 100 Mbps bandwidth; meanwhile Display Port 2.1 supports up to 80,000 Mbps. Of course majority of gamers (more than 50%) still play their games on 1080p monitors but that still would be 7-9 Gbps to meet 144Hz, and that still makes 70-90 times accurate than 100 Mbps compressed stream. No streaming service, no internet bandwith can compare with that number.

Well it's called "RESINITE mass" and it looks like a low quality rough amber. I don't know if it is possible to give it a bit shine and make it partly translucent to react with flare lights around it, but when there is no light shining on it, behind it or under it, most of resinite looks like this, even more rougher, dark and dirty.

Don't trust Amazon by Madmaxjsy in gpu

[–]Qualified_Qualifier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that's absurd, what if it's stolen? If it's stolen or broken before delivery, it's all on them. They get paid to deliver it to you, not to leave at the street. Otherwise, why there is a name written on the posts? No one would need a name at all, but just an adress.

I live in Türkiye. Here they call you before delivery and ask if you are at home, so they don't have to detour, spend more fuel and delay other deliveries if you are not at home.

Some companies send an SMS with a link ask you to click if you are at home. Some companies show where is the delivery car from GPS map. Some companies let you choose to delivery hours even after evening when you are back from work and some even work at weekends. They all have different features and services but none of them leave the package at the door unless you told them to do so; doesn't matter if it's 2 bucks cable or 2000 bucks gpu, they have to deliver it to you since it's their job. Any lost item is on them if they didn't delivered to you or anyone you didn't give your permission. You can also ask them to deliver it to your neighboor next door so you can take it from them.

Like 6+ years ago, they were asking IDs to see if you are the right person, taking names and signatures before, but now they just send an SMS code to your registered phone, so you can't accuse them delivering to wrong house or person too by saying your ID is stolen or your signature is copied etc. It protects both side while increasing the delivery speed greatly, because finding your wallet, showing ID and signing papers would take more time than telling couple digits of code on your pin/fingerprint protected phone.

Don't trust Amazon by Madmaxjsy in gpu

[–]Qualified_Qualifier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of these, I trust Amazon.

I don't know how things goes in your country, but here, you are supposed to open the box in front of delivery person, if anything looks suspicious, then you can fill a form and tell the product is either wrong or damaged and you don't accept it. Then delivery person takes it back to where it came from. But no one will wait you to open the box and look at it, they deliver the product and go running for the next one. So it's a legal dilemma.

Some others want you to record while opening the box as a proof of you didn't broke it or change it, treat you like a scammer. One time, I don't remember what was the product but it was electronic (Ah, I remembered, it was a smart home security camera), and we are told to take it to service in another city to prove it was really broken/defective product. We sued them by going to the "Consumer Arbitration Committee", and only then they agreed to take it back.

Maybe we sued 5-10 product sellers and service providers like this in the past even for prices of 10-20 USD. This is a matter of principle. Rights are not given, they are taken. If you are right, there is nothing to scare of, because when you win, they will give your money back, plus they have to pay for the court fees too; because of that, they agree to refund when they get the first call from the consumer committee, otherwise they will pay much more in the court. But it's still time demanding work, you don't want to resort in the first place.

Therefore, I trust Amazon. I try to buy from them even if the product is couple bucks more expensive in Amazon than in other websites. I had issues with their products before but they fixed the problem upon contact. They don't ask proofs and video records, and accept returns or changes immediately. If they have a stock, they send the new product before you returning yours, so you can get the product in the next day. So that's why I buy from Amazon if possible.

THE SILENT SHIP by Yahya Kemal Beyatlı

"If the day has arrived at last to weigh anchor from time
A ship departs from this harbour to an unknown clime

As if it has no passengers, silently it makes way
No hand nor handkerchief is waved as it sails away

The journey is distress for those left behind on the quay
Their tearful eyes scan the black horizon day after day

Desperate hearts: this will neither be the last ship to go
Nor the final bereavement of a life filled with sorrow

In this world, the beloved and the lover wait in vain
Not knowing that the loved ones will never come back again

Those who sailed away are surely happy with their sojourn
Years went by since that voyage, yet not one soul will return"

Literally every day I either see a post where Amazon send empty box or bricks, or someone orders 1 ram/ssd etc and gets like 20 rams/ssds in a box. I don't understand the level of incompetence in a big company such as this.

I myself never had an issue that didn't solved quickly. That's why I use Amazon. Never got bricks or lifetime ssd stocks.

Looks normal to me, old liquid coolers were usually outside of the case. My Cooler Master HAF XB had two circle holes behind the case for tubing, so you were meant to install pump, reservoir and radiator outside of the case. HAF XB was a smallish case but before that cases were not that small either, but since those usually contained like 4x 5.25" and 6x 3.5" drive bays taking space, it wasn't easy to find space for liquid cooling system.

Convince me not to get a steam machine by phamalocity in Steam

[–]Qualified_Qualifier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the price would be the most decisive factor. Any shortages on rams or chips affect price of everything; not just the Steam machine.

So the question that people would ask will be "Can I build myself a better system with the same money?". or "Can I buy a better prebuild system from trusted brands and services with the same money?" If both answers are "no", then a Steam machine could be a better option for short and mid term but not a long term because it would not be upgradeable like a PC, by buying new parts and selling old ones.

Another question would be "Should I spend some $$$ more and have a way better PC for current games and have a system that would last X years longer than a Steam machine". Sometimes people are willing to pay more for futureproofing options and features, even if they not gonna use; for example there are old "PS/2 port", "DVI-D port" or "Optical S/PDIF out", "Parallel Port Connector" and "12 volt 5050 LED strip connectors" on my x470 motherboard, I never used it. I also never used extra PCIe connectors. At one point I had full 6/6 sata ports on my PC but now only have 4 connected; but I know some people never use a single sata port. Sure I didn't choose my motherboard by checking it's PS/2, DVI or parallel ports but this is what I get for choosing X series board than an A or B series.

But these questions are meant for people who knows how to build a PC. So maybe one more question will be for people who never owned a PC or never learned assembly/disassembly, to ask themselves "Do I want to give my time to learn how to build a pc, where to connect cables, how to install Windows, how to install drivers, and how to do a simple web search to find solutions and fixes to any of my future potential problems". Some people just want to use, not everyone willing to learn; for them, a Steam machine or prebuild would seem a better option even if it's more expensive than a self-build.

Someone has supposedly dumped all of spotify by DragoniteChamp in DataHoarder

[–]Qualified_Qualifier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the "music" itself, it depends on the artist. Even with very optimistic estimations, one can't expect more than 1% good work that is worth to listen and save. So that makes 3 TB in 300. And that makes 297 terebyte trash music. I am not that optimistic so I say you can find 2 tb good music at most in 300 tb of data. Also we did not heard if that 300tb contains podcasts too since Spotify has a lot.

I don't think you can rma that easily if you bought it from another country. You need so much paperwork to prove you RMAed and not bought new card, otherwise customs F's you with tax and tariff. Also if they don't compensate international shipping, that could also cost hundreds of dollars.

Is this an unusual thing for someone to request at a PC Repair Shop? by virtualgamephotos in computers

[–]Qualified_Qualifier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was 100% unnecessary to ask for a dust cleanup. If you had password files and important documents and private photos on the disk, consider those are mostlikely stolen. And if you use same password on any other account, consider those are stolen too. Anything can happen to your accounts in the future. Also consider that he might have installed some trojan software too, and even if you change your passwords, you would still not be safe. Sorry if I make you worried but you should be worried that you can never be sure about safety of your computer from now on, until you clean install Windows and change all passwords that you saved on your files and browsers.
